General information
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only
provide maximum protection if the front seats are correctly adjusted .
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger . Adjust
your seat properly so that:
- you can easily and quickly reach all the switches
and controls in the instrument panel
- your body is properly supported thus reducing
physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and a irbag system can offer
maximum protection

In the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats.
There are special regulations and instructions for installing a child safety seat on the front pas­
senger's seat . Always follow the information re­
garding child safety provided in¢
page 172,
Child safety.
A WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the dr iver and all
other passengers can result in serious person­
al injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when the
vehicle is in motion - never put your feet on
top of the instrument panel, out of the win­
dow or on top of the seat cushion. This ap­
plies especially to the passengers. If your
seating pos it ion is inco rrect, you increase
the risk of injury in the case of sudden brak­
ing or an accident. If the airbag inflates and
the seating position is incorrect, this could
result in personal injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front
passenger to keep a distance of at least
10 inches (25 cm) between themse lves and
the steering wheel and/or instrument panel. If you're sitting any closer than th is, the a ir ­
bag system cannot protect you properly. In

addit ion, the front seats and head restraints
must be adjusted to your body height so
that they can give you maximum protection.
- Always try to keep as much distance as pos­
sible between yourself and the steer ing
wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front passeng­ er's seat while the veh icle is moving. Your
seat may move unexpectedly, causing sud­
den loss of vehicle control and personal in­
jury . If you adjust your seat while the vehicle
is moving, you a re out of position .
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving.
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's seat
in the following manner:
.,. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so that
you can eas ily push the pedals to the floor
while keeping your knees slightly bent¢

grasp the top of the steering wheel.

A WARNING

Never place any objects in the dr iver 's foot-
well . An object could get into the pedal area
and inte rfe re with pedal funct ion . In case of
sudden braking or an acc ident, you would not
be ab le to brake or accelerate.
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the
rearmost position .
To avoid contact with the a irbag while it is de­
ploy ing, do not sit any closer to the instrument

panel than necessary and always wear the three­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
.. Move the front passenger seat into the rear­
most position of the fore and aft adjustment

-Never adjust the driver's or front passeng­
er 's seat while the veh icle is moving. If you
do th is while the veh icle is moving, you will
be out of pos it ion. Always adjust the d river 's
or front passenger's sea t when the vehicle is
no t moving.

- Because the seat s can be elec trically adjust­
e d w ith the ignition off or with the ignition
key removed, neve r leave childre n unattend­
ed in the vehicle . Unsupervised use o f the
electric seat ad justments may cause serious
in jury.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front passen ­
gers must never ride in a moving vehicle
w it h the backrest reclined. Safety belts and
the airbag system only offer max imum pro­
tect ion when the backrest is up right and the
safety belts are prope rly positioned on the
body. The more the ba ckrest is re cli ned, the
greate r the risk of perso na l inju ry from an
incorrect seating posit ion and improperly
posi tioned safety belts.

The seat adjustment settings for two drivers can
be stored using the memory buttons in the driv­
er's door .

So that the driver can have a better view to the
rear, the head restraints should be pushed down
completely when the rear seats are not occupied.
A WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints when necessary in o rder to install a child
seat. Insta ll the head restraint again imme­
diately once the ch ild seat is removed. Driv­
ing withou t head restraints or wit h head re­
straints that are not properly ad justed in ­
creases the risk of serious or fata l neck in ­
jury dramatically.

can be moved forward and back.

- To prevent accidents, never install the lug­
gage compartment cover unsecured.

- Whenever driving, never place any hard or
heavy objects on the luggage compartment
or allow pets to sit on the luggage compart­
ment cover . They could become a hazard to
vehicle occupants in the event of sudden
braking or in an accident .

You could damaged a stored luggage com­
partment cover when you move the rear seat
or rear seat backrest.
@ Tips
-You can use the luggage compartment cover
to store light weight clothing or articles but do not leave any heavy or sharp objects in
the pockets of the clothing .
- Remember that placing clothing or articles
on the luggage compartment cover can
block the driver's vision in the rear view mir­
ror. This also applies especially when you
have to transport large objects.
- So that stale air can escape from the vehicle
be sure not to cover the ventilation slot be­
tw een the rear lid and the luggage compart­
ment cover.
Double cargo floor
You can store dirty or wet objects under the car­
go floor.

.. Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops out.
The c igarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the compressor from the i nflat­
able spare tire/tire repair kit* when absolutely
necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter only works when the ig ­
nition is switched on. Incorrect usage can lead
to serious injuries or burns. For this reason,
children should never be left unattended in
the vehicle because this increases the risk of
injury .
12-volt sockets
Electrical accessories can be connected to every
12-volt socket.

The power outlets and therefore the electrical
accessories connected to them operate only
with the ignition on . Improper use of the out­

tips, instructions and warnings that you need to
read and observe for your own safety, the safety
of your passengers and others . We have summar­
ized here what you need to know about safety
belts, airbags , chi ld restraints as well as child
safety. Your safety is for us

ways observe the informat ion and warn ings in
this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers .
The information in this section app lies to all
model ve rsions of your vehicle . Some of the fea ­
tures described in this sections may be standard
equipment on some models, or may be optional
eq uipment on others .
If you are not sure, ask
your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
struct ions and heed the WARNINGS in this
Manual. It is in your interest and in the in­
terest of your passengers.
- Always keep the complete Owne r's Litera­
ture in your Aud i when you lend or sell your
vehicle so that this important info rmation

A WARNING
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position or
too close to the airbag can be ser ious ly in­
jured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help re­
duce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between your breastbone
and the steering wheel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on the out­
side of the steering wheel rim with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to he lp reduce the risk of personal in­
jury if the dr iver's a irbag inflates.
- Never hold the steer ing whee l at the
12 o'cloc k posit ion or with your hands at
other pos it ions inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Holding
the steering wheel the wrong way can cause
serious injuries to the hands, arms and head
if the driver's airbag deploys.
- Pointing the steering whee l toward your
face decreases the ability of the supp lemen­
tal driver's a irbag to protect you in a colli­
sion.
- Always s it in an upright position and never
lean against or place any part of your body
too close to the area where the airbags are located .
- Before driv ing, a lways adjust the front seats
and head restraints properly and make sure
that all passengers are properly restrained.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is
moving . Your seat may move unexpectedly
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
- Never drive with the backrest recl ined or
t ilted far back! The farther the back rests are
t il ted back, the greater the ris k of injury due
to incorrect pos ition ing of the sa fety belt
and improper seating posit ion.
- Children must always ride in child safety

passenger
The proper front passenger seating position is
important for safe, relaxed driving.
Fo r yo ur own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
t h at you adjust the sea t for the front passenger
to the fo llow ing pos ition:
"' Adj ust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position and your back comes in full
contact w ith it wheneve r th e vehi cle is moving.
"' Ad just the head rest ra in t so the upper edge is
as even as possib le w ith the top of your head. If

great force in the blink of an eye.
- Always make sure that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between the front pas­
senger's breastbone and the instrument panel.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of
their own and proper ly fasten and wear the
safety belt be long ing to that seat .
- Before driving, always adjust the front pas­
senger seat and head restraint properly.
