_& WARNING
-Automatic headlights are only intended
to assist the driver . They do not relieve
the driver of his responsibility to check
the headlights and to turn them on man­
ually according to the current light and
visibility conditions. For example, fog
cannot be detected by the light sensors.
So always switch on the headlights
io
under these weather conditions and
when driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please observe legal regulations when
using the lighting systems described.
(D Note
The rear fog lights should only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic.
(D Tips
- The light sensor* for automatic dynamic
headlight range control* is located in the
rear view mirror mount. You should
therefore not apply any stickers to the
windshield in this area in order to pre­
vent malfunctions or failures.
- In the event of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is notified in the instru­
ment cluster display ~
page 22.
- You will hear a warning tone if you open
the driver door when the exterior lights
are switched on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signals and tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clear shortly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting. Clear vision 4

Emergency flasher
The emergency flasher makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emer­
gency situation .

.,. Press the switch&..~ fig. 41 to turn the
emergency flashers on or off.
When the emergency flasher is on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn
signal indicator lights
B DI in the instru­
ment cluster, as well as the light in the emer­
gency flasher switch &.. blink likewise. The
emergency flasher also works when the igni­
tion is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automati­
cally if you are in an accident where the airbag
has deployed.
@ Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you a re the last vehicle standing in a traf­
fic jam so that any other vehicles coming
can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are
in an emergency situation, or when
- your vehicle is being towed by a tow
truck or if you are towing another vehicle
behind you.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The settings ore adjusted in the MMI.

Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the
Automatic headlights menu:
Headlights a ctivation time -You can adjust if
the head lights switch on
Early , Med. or Late
according to the sensitivity of the light sensor.
Audi adaptive light* -You can switch adaptive
light
On and Off.
Automatic high beams*
You can switch the high beam assist on and
off .
Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switch the daytime run ­
ning lights
on and off .
Canada models:
The function cannot be
turned off. It is activated automatica lly each
time the ignition is switched on . This menu
item is shown "greyed out".
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when you switch the
ignition off and open the driver's door. To turn
the function on, select
Lights when leaving
car> On.
The leaving home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when you un lock the
ve hicle . To turn the funct ion on, select
Lights
when unlocking car > On .
The coming home and leaving home functions
on ly operate when it is dark and the light
switch is in the
AUTO position.
Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering col­
umn is used to operate the turn signals and
the high beam as well as the headlight flash­
er.

The turn signa l and high beam lever has the

-The high beam works only when the head­
lights are on. The indicator light

A WARNING
Do not use the high beam o r headlight

High beam assist

The high beam assist automatically switches
the high beams on or off, depending on the
surroundings and traffic conditions.

AUTO position, the low beam headlights must
be on and the high beam assist must be
sw itched on in the Infotainment~

The sensor is loca ted between the inter io r

Service setting
There is a different sensit iv ity sett ing for serv­
ic ing . T hi s sett ing can be activated by pressing
and holding the b utton on the int erio r r ear­
view m irror for more tha n 18 seconds. The
L E D next to the button blinks th ree times.
If
yo u have accidentally se lec ted this service
function, the origi nal sensitivity will be auto­
matically restored the next t ime yo u sw itch
the ignit ion on.

& WARNING
H igh beam assist is only intended to assist
the driver. The driver is still responsible for controlling the headlights and sw itching
th e high beams on and off manually de­
pending on traffic, l ighting and visibility
condi tions. Failure to intervene manually
may lead to ris k of accident . It may be nec­
essary to operate the high beams man ua l­
ly in the following situat ions, e.g .:
- For adverse weather conditions such as
fog, heavy rain, blowing snow or spraying
water .
- On roads where oncoming traffic may be
partia lly obsc ured such as expressways .
-If there are individuals on the road with
no light ing or poor lighting, such as cy ­
cl ists .
- In tight c urves and on steep s lopes .
- In poorly lit areas.
- With strong reflectors su ch as signs.
- If the area of the windshie ld nea r th e
sensor is fogged over, dirty, icy or cov­
ered w ith a st icker.
(D Tips
- The high beam ass ist is active above a
speed of approx . 25 mph (40 km/h).
- If afte r activation, your speed falls below
approx . 15 mp h (24 km/h), the high
beams w ill automatically be switched
off.

turns on automatically when you u nlock the
vehicle, open a door or switch the ignition off.
The interior light ing turns off several seconds
after you close the doors, when you lock the
vehicle or when you switch the ignition on.
When a doo r is open, the light turns off after
a few min utes.

Ambience lighting

function is activated in the MMI and when you

Adjusting the b rightness
You can ad just the brightness for the four
zones Front top , Fr ont f ootwell , Rear top and
Rear footwell or for All area s at the same
time.
Selecting a color pr ofile
You ca n select from the Ivory, Polar and Ru­
b y/ Polar color profiles .

The settings are automati cally sto red and
a ssigne d to the remote con tro l key that is
in use.
Instrument illumination
You can adjust the brightness of the instru­
ment and display illumina tion as well as the
Head-up Display*.

The instrument illumination (for dials and needles) lights on when the ignition is
switched on and the vehicle lights are
turned off. As the daylight fades, t he illu­
mination of the dials li kewise d ims a uto­
matically and w ill go out completely when
the outs ide light is very low. Th is feature is
meant to rem ind you to sw itch on the
headligh ts when ou tside ligh t conditions
b ecome poor .

The mirror light switches on when the cover
over the vanity m irror @opens.
There is a shade between the dr iver's and pas­
senger's s un v isors that can be used to cover
the gap above the rearview mirror.

can adjust the settings for the rear sun
shade so the shade retracts automatically
when you select the reverse gear. Select:

On. The settings are automatically stored and
ass igned to the remote control key. The sun
shade extends again as soon as the vehicle be­
gins traveling forward at a speed greater than
9 mph (15 km/h), as long as the ignition has
not been sw itched off in the meantime .
_&. WARNING ~
When lowering or raising the sunshade,
make sure there is nothing in its way and
that it has a free path to travel. This could
cause personal injury.
(D Tips
-
- Pressing the button~ several times
consecutively can trigger the overload
protection. The sun shade can only be ex­
tended/retracted again after a brief wait­
ing period.
- The rear window sun shade only func­
tions when the vehicle interio r is warmer
than
14°F (-10°() .
· Vanity mirror in the rear

The mirror lighting turns on automatically.

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
spond ing pos ition:

(D -Rain sensor mode. The w indshie ld w ipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
proximately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining.
The higher the rain sensor sensitivity is set
(switch @to the right), the earlier the w ind­
shield wipers react to moisture on the wind­
shie ld. You can deact ivate rain sensor mode in
the MMI, which w ill then activate intermittent
mode. Select:

> Off . In intermittent mode, you can
adjust the interval time using the switch @.

©-Single wipe. If you hold the lever in this
position longer, the wipers switch from slow
wiping to fast wip ing .
® -Clean the windshield . The wipers wipe
one time after several seconds of driving to
remove water drop lets. You can switch this
function
off by moving the lever to position ®
within 10 seconds after the afterw ipe . The af­
terw ipe f unction is react ivated the next time
you switch the ig nition on.
Cleaning the headlights . The headlight wash­
er system* only functions when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to position ®,

the headlights and the night vision system
camera* are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
-The rain sensor is only designed to assist
and support the driver.
It remains entire­
ly the driver's responsibility to monitor
outs ide weather cond itions and to man­
ually activate the wipers as soon as rain
or drizzle reduces visibility through the
windshie ld.
- The windsh ield must not be treated w ith
wate r-repellent mate rials. They can in­
crease glare unde r poo r vis ibility condi­
tions such a s wetness, d arkness, or w hen
the sun is low on the hori zon. In addi ­
tion, they can cause the w indshield wip­
ers to chatter.
- Properly f unctioning windshield wiper
blades are req uired for a clear v iew and
safe driving

- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windshield. Switching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Prior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off ( lever
in posit ion @). T his he lps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the windsh ield wiper system.
- Do not use the wipers to clear a frosted
w indow. Us ing the wipers as a conve n­
ient ice scrape r will destroy the wiper
blades.
(D Tips
- The windshield wipers are sw itched off
when the ign it ion is off . Activate the
w indshield wipe rs after the ignition is
switched back o n by movi ng the w ind­
shield wiper lever to any positi on.
- Worn or d irty wi ndshield wipe r blades
result in streaking. This ca n affec t the

- The washer fluid nozzles of the wind­
sh ield washer system are heated at low
temperatures when the ignition is on .
- When stopping temporarily, e .g . at a
traffic light, the set speed of the wind­
s h ield wipers is automatically red uced by
one speed.
Cleaning w indshield wiper blades
Clean the w indshield wiper blades when they
begin to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth and
g lass cleaner to clean the windsh ield wiper
b lades.

b lades .

- The windsh ie ld wiper b lades m ust only
be folded away when in the service posi­
tion! Otherwise, yo u ris k damaging the
paint on the hood or the windshie ld w ip­
er motor.
- Yo u should not move your vehicle or
press the windshie ld wiper lever when
the wiper arms are folded away from the
windshield. The windsh ield wipers wou ld
move back into their or iginal position
and co uld damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem, always loosen blades w hich are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers. .,.
