The electric tailgate can be opened automati-cally when all of the following conditions aremet.zThe operation mode is in OFF.zThe key is not inserted into the ignitionswitch.zThe electric tailgate is completely closed.zThe electric tailgate is unlocked.
zThe operation mode is in ON with theelectrical parking switch is pressed.zThe electric tailgate is completely closed.zThe electric tailgate is unlocked.
zThe electric tailgate is unlocked.zThe keyless operation key is within theoperating range (70 cm from the electrictailgate switch) and the tailgate is locked.The factory setting is “Inactive”.To m o d i f y t h e s e t t i n g t o “ A c t i v e ” , p l e a s econtact an authorised MITSUBISHIMOTORS dealer.
The electric tailgate can be closed automati-cally when all of the following conditions aremet.zThe operation mode is in OFF.zThe electric tailgate is completely open.zPeople, luggage, etc., are not touching thesensors.
zThe operation mode is in ON with theelectrical parking switch is pressed.zThe electric tailgate is completely open.zPeople, luggage, etc., are not touching thesensors.
zDo not start the engine while the tailgate isoperating. The sudden operation preventionmechanism could operate, making the elec-tric tailgate stop intermittently while itmoves.NOTE
zThe electric tailgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is flat or disconnected.If you want to open the electric tailgate, itcan be opened by using the inside tailgaterelease.Refer to “Inside tailgate release” on page4-24.zIf the keyless entry system or close switch isoperated when the electric tailgate powerswitch is off, the warning buzzer sounds 4times to notify the driver that the electrictailgate cannot be operated.zThe electric tailgate does not operate nor-mally under the following conditions:•When parked on an incline•In strong winds•When the electric tailgate is covered withsnow
zRepeated continuous operation betweenopening and closing the electric tailgate willactivate the built-in protection circuit andswitch the tailgate to manual operation.CAUTION
zIf the electric tailgate handle is operatedwhile the tailgate is operating or immedi-ately after it is closed, the tailgate will movein the direction opposite to the one in whichit was operating.zIf the battery or fuse is replaced while theelectric tailgate is open, it cannot be closedautomatically.In this case close the electric tailgate manu-ally.

1. The inside alarm will be activated forapproximately 10 seconds. (except forvehicles equipped with the interior alarmsensor)2. The alarm will be activated for approxi-mately 30 seconds.The turn-signal lamps will flash, and thehorn (the siren for vehicles equipped withthe interior alarm sensor) will sound inter-mittently.3. The alarm will resume if unlawful actionsare taken again, even if the alarm hasstopped.

It is possible to halt the activation of an alarmusing the following methods:zPressing the LOCK or UNLOCK switchon the remote control switch.(After pressing of the LOCK switch, thevehicle will lock if all the doors and thetailgate are closed, after which the systempreparation mode will once again go intoeffect.)zPutting the operation mode in ON.zHolding the keyless operation key andlocking or unlocking the doors and thetailgate using the keyless operation func-tion.

Cancelling the alarm

NOTE
zWhen the ignition switch is turned to the“ON” position or the operation mode is putin ON, the buzzer sounds 4 times. This oper-ation indicates that the alarm was activatedwhile the vehicle was parked.Please check the inside of the vehicle to con-firm that nothi
ng was stolen.
zEven if the battery is disconnected, the alarmactivation memory will not be erased.

If a hand or head is trapped in the closingwindow, it will lower automatically.Nonetheless, make sure that nobody putstheir head or hand out of the window whenclosing the driver’s door window.The lowered window will become operationalafter a few seconds.

Safety mechanism (driver’s window only)
WA R N I N GzIf the battery terminals are disconnectedor the fuse for electric window is replaced,the safety mechanism will be cancelled.If a hand or head got trapped, a seriousinjury could result.CAUTIONzThe safety mechanism is cancelled justbefore the window is
fully closed. This
allows the window to close completely.Therefore be especially
careful that no fin-
gers are trapped in the window.
zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whilethe switch is pulled up. Therefore be espe-cially careful that fingers are not trapped inthe door window opening.NOTE
zThe safety mechanism can be activated if thedriving conditions or
other circumstances
cause the driver’s door window to be sub-jected to a physical shock similar to thatcaused by a trapped hand or head.zIf the battery terminals are disconnected orthe fuse for electric window is replaced, thesafety mechanism will be cancelled and thedoor window will not automaticallyopen/close completely.If the window is open, repeatedly raise thedriver’s door window switch until the win-dow has been fully closed. Following this,release the switch, raise the switch onceagain and hold it in this condition for at least1 second, then releas
e it. You should now be
able to operate the driver’s door window inthe normal fashion.

reaches the fully open or fully closed posi-tion.zIf the sunroof does not operate when the sun-roof switch is operated, release the switchand check whether something is trapped bythe sunroof. If nothing is trapped, have thesunroof checked at an authorized MITSUBI-SHI MOTORS dealer.zDepending on the models of ski carriers orroof carriers, the sunroof may contact thecarrier when the sunroof is tilted up. Be care-ful when tilting up the sunroof if such a skicarrier or a roof carrier is installed.WA R N I N G
zBe sure to close the sunroof completelywhen washing the vehicle or when leavingthe vehicle.zBe careful not to put any wax on the weath-erstrip (black rubber) around the sunroofopening. If stained with wax, the weather-strip cannot maintain a weatherproof sealwith the sunroof.zAfter washing the vehicle or after it hasrained, wipe off any water that is on the sun-roof before operating it.zOperating the sunroof
