The door and tailgate unlock function can beset to the following two conditions.Each time the door and tailgate unlock func-tion is set, a chime will sound to tell you thecondition of the door and tailgate unlockfunction.1. Put the operation mode in OFF.2. Place the combination headlamps and dip-per switch in the “OFF” position, andleave the driver’s door open.3. Press the LOCK switch (1) for 4 to 10seconds and press the UNLOCK switch(2) during this time.
4. Release in sequence the LOCK andUNLOCK switches within 10 seconds ofpressing the LOCK switch in step 3.

Before replacing the battery, remove staticelectricity from your body by touching ametal grounded object.
zThe keyless entry system does not operatewhen the door or tailgate is open.zThe remote control switch will operatewithin about 4 m from the vehicle. However,the operating range of the remote controlswitch may change if the vehicle is locatednear a power station,
or radio/TV broadcast-
ing station.zIf either of the following problems occurs,the battery may be exhausted.•The remote control switch is operated at thecorrect distance from the vehicle, but thedoors and tailgate are
not locked/unlocked
in response.•The indicator lamp (4) is dim or does notcome on.For further information, please consult yourMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorised Ser-vice Point.If you replace the battery yourself, refer to“Procedure for replacing the remote controlswitch battery” on page 4-5.

brake failure.If this warning is displayed, release the park-ing brake.CAUTIONzIf this warning stays illuminated and doesnot go out while driving, there is a danger ofineffective braking. If this happens, immedi-ately park your vehicle in a safe place andwe recommend you to have it checked.

Avoid suddenbraking and high-speed driving, stop thevehicle in a safe place, and we recommendyou to have it checked.zThe vehicle should be brought to a halt in thefollowing manner when brake performancehas deteriorated.•Depress the brake pedal harder than usual.Even if the brake pe
dal moves down to the
very end of its possible stroke, keep itpressed down hard.• Should the brakes fail, use regenerativebrake to reduce your speed and carefullypull the parking brake lever.Depress the brake pedal to operate the stoplamp to alert the vehicles behind you.

zIf the operation mode of the power switchis put in OFF or ACC while the lampswitch is in the “ ” or “ ” position,the lamps will turn off automaticallywhen the driver"s door is opened.zIf the operation mode of the power switchis put in OFF or ACC while the lampswitch is in the “ ” or “ ” position,the lamps will remain on for about 3 min-utes while the driver’s door is shut andwill then automatically turn off.
1. Turn the lamp switch in the “OFF” posi-tion while the operation mode of thepower switch is in OFF or ACC.2. Turn on the lamps with the switch in the“ ” or “ ” position again, then thelamps will remain on.3. When 1 minute has passed, the lamps willautomatically be turned off.

If the driver’s door is opened when the opera-tion mode of the power switch is put in ACCor OFF with the lamps illuminated, a buzzerwill sound to remind the driver to turn off thelamps.The buzzer will automatically stop if theauto-cutoff function is activated, the lampswitch is turned off, or the door is closed.

This function turns on the position and taillamps for about 30 seconds after theUNLOCK switch on the remote control trans-mitter is pressed when the combination head-lamps and dipper switch is in the “OFF” or“AUTO” position (for vehicles equipped withthe automatic lamp control). On vehiclesequipped with the automatic lamp control(except for vehicles equipped with LDW), thewelcome light function will operate onlywhen it is dark outside the vehicle.

This function turns on the headlamps in thelow beam setting for about 30 seconds afterthe operation mode is put in OFF.1. Turn the combination headlamps and dip-per switch to the “OFF” or “AUTO” posi-tion (for vehicles equipped with theautomatic lamp control).2. Put the operation mode of the powerswitch in OFF.
3. Within 60 seconds of putting the opera-tion mode in OFF, pull the turn signallever towards you.4. The headlamps will come on in the lowbeam setting for about 30 seconds. Afterthe headlamps go off, the headlamps canbe turned on again in the low beam settingfor about 30 seconds by pulling the turnsignal lever towards you within 60 sec-onds of putting the operation mode inOFF.To t u r n o n t h e h e a d l a m p s a g a i n a f t e r 6 0seconds of putting the operation mode inOFF, repeat the process from step 1.

zThe high beams can also flash when the lampswitch is OFF.zIf you turn the lamps off with the headlampsset to highbeam, the headlamps are automati-cally returned to their low-beam settingwhen the lamp switch is next turned to the“” position.
