The illumination for the instrument cluster
lights up whenever you switch on the igni

vehicle headlights off . As
the daylight fades, the instrument cluster
illuminat ion likewise dims automatically
and will go out completely when the out
side light is very low. This feature is meant
to remind you to switch on the headlights
when outside light condit ions become
poor.
Engine coolant temperature gauge
The engine coolant gauge q page 10, fig. 3 (D
only works when the ignition is on. To prevent
damage to your engine, please note the fol
lowing important po ints:
Engine cold
If the needle is at or close to the bottom of
the gauge, the engine has not yet reached its
operating temperature. Avoid high engine
speeds, heavy engine loads, and heavy throt
tle app lications.
Normal temperature
When the engine has reached its operating
temperature, the needle will move to the mid
dle of the gauge and remain there . If the en
gine is working hard at high outs ide tempera
tures, the needle may move higher on the
gauge. This is not a cause for concern as long
as the . warning light in the instrument
cluster display does not illuminate. .,..

See your authorized Aud i dealer as soon as
possib le.
.&_ WARNING
-
- If the~ (USA models) l[!J (Canada
mode ls) warning light does not go out,
or if it comes on while driving, the ABS
system is not working properly. The vehi

standard brakes (without ABS). You will
not have the protection ABS provides.
Contact your authorized Aud i dealer as
soon as poss ible.
- If the
1111 (USA models)/. (Canada
mode ls) brake system indicator light
turns on together with the ABS and ESC
indicator lights, the ABS/ ESC regu lating
function may have failed. Functions that
stabilize the vehicle are no longer availa

swerve and increase the risk of sliding.
Drive caref ully to the nearest authorized
Audi dealer or other qualified workshop
and have the malfunction corrected.
::\ii(®) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electromechanical parking brake.
With the parking brake applied and the igni

about 30 seconds.
T he wa rning/i ndicator lig ht will go out when
the parking brake is released.
If the warning/indicator light flashes continu

after applying the pa rking brake, brak
ing force is not sufficient to prevent the veh i
cle from rolling unintentionally . Please note
the following:
- If the slope of the ground is too steep to
pa rk the vehicle, the additional drive mes
sage appears Caution : Vehicle parked too
steep.
- In the event of a pa rking brake malfunction,
the yellow
IIJ symbo l appears in the instru

Have the ma lfunction repa ired as soon as
possible by an authorized Audi dealer or any
other qualified workshop.
BRAKE/((D) Brake system
The warning/indicator light flashes if brake
fluid level is low, if there is an ABS system
malfunction or a parking brake malfunction.

If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are driving

actual outside temperature . Th is is caused by
the heat being radiated from the engine .
The unit of measurement for the temperature
can be set in either °For in °Con the MMI* or
on the radio control un it . The outside temper

measurement that has been set. For addition

A WARNING
- Never use the outside temperature d is

or not. Keep in mind that road surfaces ,
especially bridges and overpasses, could be ice covered and slippery even at an
outside temperature above 39 °F (+4 °C).
- Always remember, eve n if the "snow

special care in cold weather conditions
when the chance of encounte ring icy
road surfaces increases .
