If the E indicator light turns on and this
message appears, there is a pa rking brake
mal funct ion. Drive to your authorized Aud i
dea ler or qualified workshop immediately to
have the malfunction corrected.
,(,_ Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to
put on your safety belt.
The . warning/ind icator light illuminates
when the ignition is switched on to rem ind
the driver and any front passenger to put on
the safety belt. Additionally, an acoustic warn­ i ng (gong) will a lso sound .

E::::3 Battery
The. warning/indicator light illuminates
when you switch on the ignition and must go
out after the engine has started.
• Alternator fault: Battery is not being
charged
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the
generator or vehicle e lectrica l system.
D rive to you r autho rized Aud i dealer or quali­
fied workshop immediately . Because the vehi ­
cle battery is discharging, turn
off a ll unnec­
essary electrical equipment such as the radio .
Seek professional assistance if the battery
charge leve l is too low.
(•) Low battery: Battery will be charged
while driving
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, there may be limited starting
ability.
If th is message turns
off after a litt le while,
the battery charged enough wh ile driving. If the
message does not turn
off, have your
authorized Audi dea ler or qualified workshop
correct the ma lfunction.
'l:::7: Engine oil pre ssure
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair . Driving
with a low-oil-pressure indication is likely to
inflict severe damage to the engine .
• Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, the oil pressure is too low.

sure warning symbol. appears no longer

and do not cont inue driv ing. Seek professio­
nal assistance .
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is
not an indicator for a low engine oil lev­
el. Do not rely on it. Instead, check the
oil level in your engine at regular inter­
vals, preferably each time you refuel,
and always before going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication
l!I requires oil refill or workshop serv­
ice without delay. Do not wait until the
red oil pressure warning. starts to
flash before you respond to the low oil
level warning
Ill. By then, your engine
may already have suffered serious dam­
age.

the indicator light corresponds with the lo­cation on the vehicle.
This warning can also occur if the light switch
is in an unengaged position between two sym­
bols.
Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light switch .
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode while they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights*. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

Have the bulb replaced or the connection
repaired by your authorized Audi Service
department.
~(D Headlight range control
Applies to vehicles: with headlight range contro l
II Headlight range control defective !
If the symbol II illuminates, the dynamic
headlight range control is no longer working
properly. Have the system checked and re­
paired at your authorized Audi dealer.
§0 Adaptive Light
Applies to vehicles: with adaptive light
111 Audi adaptive light: defective
If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the
adaptive light system. The headlights still
function.
Go to an authorized dealership to have the headlights or the control unit for the adaptive
light repaired .
@? light/rain sensor
Applies to vehicles: with light/ra in sensor

If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, the light/rain sensor is not
functioning correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanently with the switch in
AUTO.
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch . You can still
control all functions that are independent of
the rain sensor through the windshield wiper
lever .
Contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the problem corrected.
g Adaptive dampers
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and adaptive
dampers
B Suspension: System fault!
If the B symbol in the display comes on, there
is a malfunction in the adaptive dampers .
Please go to an authorized Audi dealer or oth­
er qualified workshop to have the malfunction
repaired.
!-: Sport differential
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and sport dif­
ferential
Sport differential: System fault!
There is a malfunction with the sport differen­
tial.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
Sport differential: Overheating
The transmission temperature has increased
significantly due to the sporty driving manner.
Drive in a less sporty manner until the tem­
perature returns to the normal range and the
indicator light switches of.

@ Tips
-Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in­
correct.
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
battery is disconnected.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)¢• in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is work ing proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may ex ist in the engine sys­
tem. If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid acce l­
erat ions) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer .
If the lig ht illuminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more
information

limiter .
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board D iagnostics monitors the compo­
nents of your em ission contro l system. Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code. In case of a mal­
funct ion, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memo ry.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
l eak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys­
tem. If the light illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler
cap is properly closed ~page 210.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be disp layed using spe­
cial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
for OBD).
In order to connect the specia l diagnostic
equipment, p ush the plug into the Data Link
Connector (DL C). The DLC is located to the
rig ht of the hood release
~ fig. 16.
Your authorized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop can interpret the code and perform the
necessary repair.
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for
personal use . Incorrect usage can cause
malfunctions , whic h can increase the risk
of a collision!
Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equ ipped with
-
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of .,..

@ Tips
-The light sensor * for headl ight control is
l ocated in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures .
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
ad justed

-When yo u remove you r key from the igni­
tion w hile the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, t he ins ide of
the headlights, turn signa ls and tail
li ghts can fog ove r due to the tem pera ­
ture diffe ren ce betwe en the inside and
outside. They will clear shor tly after
swi tching t hem on. This d oes not aff ect
the service life of the ligh ting.
- In the even t of a ligh t sensor malfunc­
tion, the drive r is no tifie d in the inst ru ­
ment cluster disp lay ~

Tire service life
The service life of tires depends on a lot of
different things including proper installation
and balan cing , correc t tire pressure and driv­
ing style.

Tread Wear Indicator (TWI)
The origina l tires on your vehicle have
1/16 inch (1.6 mm) high "wear indicators"
<=> fig. 184 running across the tread. Depend­
ing on the make, there will be six to eight of
t hem evenly p laced around the t ire. Marks on
the t ire s idewall (for example ''TWI " or other
symbols) indicate the positions of the tread
wear ind icators . Worn t ires m ust be replaced.

Tire pressure
Incorrect tire press ure c auses prema ture wear
and can cause sudden tire blow-out . For this
reason , tire pressure must be checked at least
once a month

Driving style
Driving fast around c urves, heavy acce le ra ti on
and har d brak ing inc rease tire wear .
Rotating tires for more even w ear
For all four tires on your vehicle to have the
same service life , we recommend that the
front and rear t ires a re rotated a ccording to
the tire man ufactur er's suggested tire ro ta­
tion intervals . Please remember the follow­
ing:
- Tire rotation in tervals may differ from the
veh icle servi ce inte rv al s o utli ned in your
Ma intenance and Warranty Boo klet.
- The longer one tire is used in one lo cation
on t he veh icle, the more it wears a t cer tain
points ; the re fore, we recommend that you
follow the tire man ufact urer's suggested
tire rotation intervals .
- Vehi cles w ith front-wheel dr ive experience
more tread wear on the front wheels com­
pared to a ll wheel drive (quattro ®).
- Please rotate tires as shown¢

Wheel balancing
T he w heels on new ve hicles are balanced .
Howeve r, various s ituations duri ng eve ryday
driv ing ca n ca use t hem to become unba l­
anced, resulting in vib rat ions you ca n usually
feel through the steer ing whee l.
Un balanced wheels must be rebalanced to
avo id excessive wear on steering, s uspension
and t ires. A whee l m ust also be reba lanced
when a new tire is insta lled .
Incorrect wheel alignment
Incor rect wheel alignment can cause exc es­
s ive tire wear, impa iring the safe ty of the vehi-
cle. If tires show excessive wear, have the
