(MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (M IL) Ill
(USA models);II (Canada models) in the in­
strument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­ nostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is work ing proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates whi le you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may ex ist in the engine sys­
tem. If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer.
If the lig ht ill uminates, the e lectronic speed
limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

Electronic speed limiter
Your veh icle may be factory equ ipped with
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of
130 mph (210 km/h) . Thi s is less than the
maxim um speed of your vehicle. To reduce the
risk of sudden tire failure and loss of control if
the vehicle is operated at excessive speeds,
your vehicle also has an electronic speed limit­
er . The electronic speed limiter prevents your
veh icle from going faster than the tire speed

If the engine control unit receives fau lty vehi ­
cle roadspeed signals, the Malfunction Indica­
tor Light (MIL)

A WARNING -
A lways observe the posted speed lim its
and adjust your speed to suit prevailing
road, traffic and weather conditions. Never
drive your vehicle faster than the maxi­
mum speed rating of the tires installed.
Trip computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you information on
current and average fuel mileage, average
speed, fuel range and driving time.

Single-trip memory (Trip computer 1)
The single-trip memory stores the tr ip infor­
mation from the time the ign it ion is turned on
until it is turned off. If the tr ip is cont inued
within 2 hours from the time the ign ition was
turned off, the new data will be incl uded in
the calculat ion of the current trip informa­
tion . If the trip is interrupted for
more than 2
hours
the memo ry is reset automatically. Ill-

Fue l economy messages are displayed when
fuel consumption is increased by certa in con­
d itions. If you follow these fuel economy mes ­
sage s, you can reduce your vehicle's consump­
t ion of fuel. The messages appear automati­
cally and a re o nly disp layed in the eff iciency
program . The fuel economy messages turn off
automatically after a certain period of time .

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the nex t oil change o r inspec­
tion is calculated a utomatically and displayed
according ly . The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days befo re the next service is due, a se rv­
i ce rem inder appears in the d isplay when you
turn on the igni tion.
After abo ut 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The d ista nce and time re- main
ing are upda ted each time the ig nition is
turned on unti l the date d ue for service is
reached.
Service due
When the d ue da te for service is reached, t he
message
Service due! appears in the i nstr u­
ment cluster imme diate ly after yo u turn on
the ignit io n. Add itiona lly, a warning tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the disp lay
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspec tion is due,
can be shown in the instrument cluster by se­
lecting the service interva l disp lay . Select
Chec k > Service > Oil change or Service by us­
ing the
I RESE T! button and the rocker sw itch

Resetting the ser vic e interval di splay
Your a uthorized Audi dea ler w ill reset the cor­
responding service sc hedule after performing
the appropr iate service on you r veh icle. You
also have the possib ility to rese t the oil
change schedule after hav ing performed an
o il change acco rding to Aud i specif ications .

-If a malfunction is present (red symbol),
the distance remaining cannot be called
up.
- Do not reset the display between service
interva ls. Doing so will result in an incor­
rect display.
- If the battery is disconnected, the Serv­
ice Interval Display values are retained.

System, you can also call up the service

-If service was not performed at the cor­
rect time or the service interval display
was not reset after service was per­
formed, the add itiona l mi leage driven or
the elapsed days will be shown as nega­

Engine oil temperature

• With the ignition switched on, press the
I RESET I button ¢ page 26, fig. 11 repeated­
l y until the engine o il temperature display is
shown.
The engine has reached its operating temper­
ature when the engine oil temperature is be­
tween
1 76 ° F (80 °() and 248 °F (120 °() un­
der normal driving conditions. The engine oil
temperature may be higher if the re is heavy
engine load and h igh temperatures outs ide .
This is not a cause for concern as long as the

Speed warning system
Overview
The speed warning system helps you to keep
your driving speed below a set speed limit.

The speed warning system warns the drive r if
he exceeds a previo usly stored max imum
speed. A warning tone will sound as soon as
the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed by
about 3 mph (3 km/h). At the same time, a
warning symbol appears in the display

The speed warning system has two warning

each other and that have somewhat different
purposes:

You can use speed warning 1 to set the maxi ­
mum speed while you are driving. This setting
will remain in effect until you turn
off the igni­
tion, assuming that you have not changed or reset the setting.
The speed warning symbol

models) in the warning 1 disp lay appears
when you exceed the maximum speed.
It goes
out when the speed falls below the stored
maximum speed .
The speed warning symbol will also go out if
the speed
exceeds the stored maximum speed
by more than about 25 mph (40 km/h) for at
least 10 seconds. The stored maximum speed
is de leted.

Storing warning 2 is recommended if you al­
ways
want to be reminded of a certain speed,
for example when you are traveling in a coun­
try that has a general maximum speed limit,
or if you do not want to exceed a specified
speed for winter tires.
The speed warning 2 symbol ,
[I/ [9] (Canada
models) appears in the display when you ex­
ceed the stored speed limit. Unlike warning 1, it will not go out until the vehicle speed drops
below the stored speed limit .

Even though your vehicle is equipped with
a speed warning system, you shou ld still
watch the speedometer to make sure you
are not driving faster than the speed limit.

T he maximum speed remains stored until it is
changed by pressing the button again briefly
or until it is deleted by a lengthy push on the
button.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. The rear lid can be unlocked
with the remote control unlock button

@Valet ke y
The valet key fits only the driver's door and
the ignition lock. If you have to leave the key
with somebody else, you are well-advised to turn over the valet key only .
Be aware that the rear lid can be opened from
inside the vehicle with the remote rear lid re­

Re gister ed keys
You can check to find out how many remote
keys have been registered to your vehicle.
Therefore, when buying a used vehicle, make sure to get all of the remote keys that belong
to it .
Calling up the reg istered remote keys

An example of a poss ible d isplay: 3/2 . The
first digit indicates how many keys have been
coded for your vehicle. The second digi t indi­
cates the current number of remote keys that
are registered . For our example, this wou ld
mean that
2 keys have been enabled for your
vehicle, and that, for example, one key has been lost .
If one key has been lost, contact an a uthor ­
ized Audi dealership to have the function
locked for
this key. A lso inform your insurance
company that this key is lost.
A WARNING
-
-Do not leave your vehicle unattended
wit h the key in the ignition lock . Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­ cle. A lways loc k all doors and take the
key .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows. Unsu­perv ised operation of any vehicle system
by children can result in serious injury.
(D Tips
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignition lock, a chime wi ll
sound. Th is is your rem inder to remove
the key and lock the door.
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only ava ilable from authorized Audi
dealers.

Automatic locking*
The automatic loc king feat ure locks all the ve­
h icle doors and t he rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 mph ( 15 km/h) .
You ca n un lock the veh icle from the i nside by :
- removing the key from the ig nition sw itch
(the vehicle will automat ica lly unloc k itself)

- pressing the unlock part of t he power lock
switch

- pull ing t he inside handle for that door (once
- the front door is unlocked and opened at
the same tim e, twi ce to open the rear door).
If you w is h , you can have an author ized Audi
dealer convert yo ur power door loc k system to
automatic locking .
Unintentionally locking yourself out

the ins ide.
- Whe n yo u leave the vehicle, alw ays re­
move t he igni tion key and ta ke i t w ith

ing loc ked in the ve hicle should they acci­
dentally press the p owe r locking switch
on the center conso le .
