The
Kwarning light will switch on (together with a mes-
sage on the display) to indicate there are between 5 and
7 litres of fuel remaining.
Do not travel with the fuel tank almost empty: the gaps
in fuel delivery could damage the catalytic converter.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE

Gauge C shows the temperature of the engine coolant and
indicates when the coolant temperature exceeds 50 °C.
The first reference remains on constantly to indicate that
the system is operating correctly. The
uwarning light
switches on (together with a message on the display) to
indicate that the temperature of the engine coolant has
increased significantly. In this event, stop the engine and
go to a Lancia Dealership.INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS
General warnings
The warning lights switch on together with a dedicated
message and/or a buzzer where appropriate. These in-
dications are brief and precautionary and as such must
not be considered as exhaustive and/or an alternative to
the information contained in the Owner Handbook,
which you are recommended to read carefully in all cases.
Always refer to the information in this chapter in the
event of a failure indication.
Low brake fluid level (red)
Turning the key to the MAR position the
warning light switches on, but it will switch
off after a few seconds. The warning light
comes on when the level of the brake fluid in the reser-
voir falls below the minimum level due to a possible leak
in the circuit.
The display shows the dedicated message.
Handbrake on (red)
When the key is turned to the MAR position the warn-
ing light comes on but should go out after a few seconds.
The warning light turns on when the handbrake is en-
gaged. If the car is moving the buzzer will also sound.
IMPORTANT If the warning light turns on when travel-
ling, make sure that the handbrake is not engaged.

Never bump start the engine by pushing,
towing or coasting downhill. This could
cause a flow of fuel into the catalytic con-
verter and damage it beyond repair.
HOW TO WARM UP THE ENGINE
AFTER IT HAS JUST STARTED
Proceed as follows:
❍drive off slowly, letting the engine turn at medium
speed. Do not accelerate abruptly;
❍do not demand maximum performance for the first
few kilometres. Wait until the engine coolant gauge
starts moving.STOPPING THE ENGINE
Turn the ignition key to STOP while the engine is idling.
IMPORTANT After a taxing drive, you should allow the
engine to “catch its breath” before turning it off by let-
ting it idle to allow the temperature in the engine com-
partment to fall.
A quick burst on the accelerator before turn-
ing off the engine serves absolutely no prac-
tical purpose, it wastes fuel and is damag-
ing especially to turbocharged engines.

REGULAR CHECKS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys, check and, if
necessary, top-up the following:
❍engine coolant fluid level;
❍brake fluid level;
❍windscreen washer fluid level;
❍tyre pressure and condition;
❍operation of lighting system (headlights, direction in-
dicators, hazard lights, etc.);
❍operation of the windscreen wiper/washer system, po-
sition and wear of windscreen/rear window wiper
blades.
Every 3,000 km check and top up if required: engine oil
level.
You are advised to use PETRONAS LUBRICANTS prod-
ucts, which have been designed and produced specifically
for Lancia cars (see table “Capacities” in chapter “6”).
HEAVY-DUTY USE OF THE CAR
Should the prevailing use of the car be under one of the
following specially demanding conditions:
❍trailer or caravan towing;
❍dusty roads;
❍short (less than 7-8 km) and repeated journeys in sub-
zero temperatures;
❍frequently idling engine or long-distance, low-speed
driving (e.g. door-to-door deliveries), or in the event
of long-term inactivity;
❍urban routes;

The coolant level must be checked when the engine is
cold and must range between the MIN. and MAX. marks
on the reservoir. If the level is low, slowly pour a mixture
of 50% demineralised water and 50% PARAFLU
UPof
PETRONAS LUBRICANTS through the filler neck un-
til the level reaches MAX.
The mixture of 50% PARAFLU
UPand 50% distilled wa-
ter protects against freezing down to temperatures of
−35 °C. For particularly harsh climate conditions, we rec-
ommended using a mixture of 60% PARAFLU
UPand
40% distilled water.
PARAFLUUPanti-freeze is used in the en-
gine cooling system. Use the same fluid as in
the cooling system when topping up.
PARAFLU
UPmay not be mixed with any other
types of fluids. If this accidentally occurs, do not
start the engine and contact a Lancia Dealership.
The engine cooling system is pressurised. If
necessary, only replace the cap with another
genuine one or the operation of the system
may be adversely affected. Do not remove the cap
from the reservoir when the engine is hot: danger of
scalding.
