Adjusting the seat
Position, angl e and shape of the seat can be adjusted
ele ctrically to ensure safe and comfortabl e seating .
Read an d follow the warning notices~ & before you ad just

Adjusting the curvature of the lumbar
support*

& WARNING
• Adjust the driver's seat only when the vehicle is stationary . You
risk an accident oth erwise .
• The power adjustment for the front seat s al so works with the
ignit ion switched off or with the ign ition key removed. For this
rea son, children should never be left unattended in the vehicle -
they could be injured!
• Exerci se caution when adjusting the seat height. Unsupervis ed
or careless seat adjustment can p inch fingers or hands causing
injuries .
• While the vehicle is moving , the seat backs of the front seats
must not be inclined too far to the rear be cause the effectiveness
of the safety belts and the ai rbag system is severely compromised
- there is a risk of injury .•

Storing and recalling settings
With the help o f the memory buttons 1 and 2 ::::> page 78, fig. 72 the
sett ings fo r two d ifferent d rivers can be stored and recalled
::::>
page 79 .
Th e cur rent settings are a lso a utomat ically stored on the remote
cont rol key being used when the vehicle is locked. W hen the vehicle is
unlo cked , the settings stored on the remo te co ntro l key being used
are automatically reca lled.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON/OFF ] switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative .

OFF in the [ ON/OFF ] swi tch illum inates.
All the stored sett ings are retained . We recommend us ing the
I ON/OFF ] switch and deact ivat ing the sea t memory if the vehicle is
only go ing to be used
temporarily by a drive r whose settings are not
going to be stored .•

Storing and recalling settings
Before you ca n st ore or recall your settings , the [ O N/OF F]
switch o n the seat memory must be engage d (not raise d).
Storing settings
- Adjust the driver's seat.
- Adjust the two exterior mirrors.
- Press the!SE T] button a nd hold it dow n. In ad dit ion , press
o ne of the memory buttons fo r at least o ne second .
- Release t he b utto ns . The s ett in gs a re now sto red un der
the corres ponding m emo ry bu tt on.

Recalling settings
- If t he driver's doo r is o pen , tap the co rresponding memory
button brie fly.
- If the driver 's door is closed, press the appropriate
me mory button until the stored posi tio n is reached.
Su ccessfu l storage is confirmed audib ly and by the light in the [ SET ]
button illuminat ing::::> page 78, fig. 72.
Wh en the vehicle is
locked , the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote con trol key . Bu t the settin gs s to red on
memo ry butto ns 1 to 2 are not deleted . They ca n be recalled a t any
time. When the vehicle is
unlocked , the settings stored on the
remote cont rol key are restored .
If your ve hicle is d riven by other persons us ing your remote contro l
key , you sho uld save yo ur individ ual seat p osi tion on one of the
memory butto ns. Yo u can recall your settings aga in simp ly and
c onvenien tly by press ing the corres ponding memory bu tton . Wh en
the ve hicle is locked, these settings a re a utomat ically re -ass ig ned to
the remote control key and stored.
& WARNING
• For safety rea sons, the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwise you risk having an accident .
• In an emergency the recall procedure can be cancelled by
pressing the [
ON/OFF] switch or by tapp ing of the the memory
button s. •

Activating remote control key memory
To be able to recall the stored settings with the remote
control key, the function has to be activated in the radio
orMMI*.
- Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment>
Driver's seat> Key mem. profile > On.

remote key, switch off the M emory function using the radio or MMI*

Seat adjustments in MMI
The passenger's seat can be adjusted to various positions
by the driver.
Convenience side view
- Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment >
Passenger's seat
> Convenience side view.
- Continue to press the control knob until the adjustment
process is complete.
Seat symmetry
Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment>
Passenger's seat
> Seat symmetry.
- Continue to press the control knob until the adjustment
p rocess is complete.
Using the Convenience side view function, the passenger's seat is
adjusted so that the driver has the best possible view to the right .
When the Convenience side view is set, the specific position of the
driver's seat is taken into consideration.
Using the Seat symmetry function, the passeng er's seat can be
moved to the same position as the driver's seat . The settings for the
driver's seat are import ed and set automat ically.•

Front head restraints
Head restraints that are adjusted according to body size,
along with the seat bealt, offer effective protection.

Pull the head restraint out of the backrest at the same
time=:> &.
Installing the head restraints
-Slide the posts on the head restraint down into the guides
until you feel the posts click into place .
Press the button@=:>
page 81, fig. 75 and slide the head
restraint all the way down. You should not be able to pull
the head restraint out of the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to the rear, the head
restraints should be pushed down completely when the rear seats are
not occupied.
& WARNING
• Only remove the rear seat head restraints when necessary in
order to install a child seat. Install the head restraint again imme­
diately once the child seat is removed. Driving without head
restraints or with head restraints that are not properly adjusted
increases the risk of serious or fatal neck injury dramatically.
• Read and heed all WARNINGS~
page 174.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and safety belts are an extremely
effective combination of safety features.•
Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several levels.

-To adjust the angle, raise the armrest from the starting
position detent by detent =:> fig. 77.
- To bring the armrest back into the starting position, raise
it out of the top detent and fold it back down.
The armrest can slide forward and back. •

fig. 84 pops out far enough for the red marking on knob to
be visible.
- Tilt the seatback forward.
Raising the seatback
-Raise the seatback until it is securely latched~& . When
you can no longer see the red mark on the safety knob©
~ page 85, fig. 84, the seat is latched.
The correctly latched seatback (basic position) can be locked and
unlocked with the mechanical key . This prevents any entry from the
vehicle interior into the luggage compartment.
Enlarging the cargo capacity of the luggage compartment is only
possible when the seatback has not been locked with the mechanical
key.
& WARNING
• The backrest must always be securely latched so that the safety
belt of the center seating position can work properly to help
protect the occupant.
• The backrest must be securely latched in position so that no
items contained in the luggage compartment can slide forward
upon sudden braking.
• Always check whether the latch is fully engaged by pulling the
seatback forward.
• Never allow safety belts to become damaged by being caught
in door or seat hardware.
• Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and damaged belt hardware
can break in a crash. Inspect the belts periodically. Belts showing

damage to webbing, bindings, buckles, or retractors must be
replaced.

• If you move the front seat back when the rear seat backrest is
folded forward, you cou ld damage the head restraints on the rear
seat.
• Slide the be lt guide on the outs ide safety be lt all the way up
before folding the backrest back forward. Make sure the seat belt is
not pinched or damaged when the rear seat backrest if folded back.
Other objects should be removed from the rear seat bench to protect
the seatback from damage. •

Locking the seatback

The correctly latched seatback (basic position) ~ & in
"Enlarging cargo capacity of the luggage compartment" on
page 85 can be locked and unlocked with the mechanical key
next to the release handle. This prevents any entry from the
vehicle interior into the luggage compartment.

Parcel shelf
The par cel shelf behind the rear seatback can be used to
carry li ght items of clo thing .
& WARNING
No hea vy o r hard objects should be placed on the parcel shelf. They
are a haza rd to the vehicl e occupant s during sudden braking . The
is a risk of injur y.

Please make sure that the heating wires for the rear window defogger
are not damage by abrasive objects .

- Push the ski sack through the opening from the luggage
compartment.

- Push t he pass-through cover up inside the vehicle until it
latches .

• Use care when using the cigarette lighte r. Inattentive or unsu­

with the ignition key removed . Children should never be left unsu­
pervised in the vehicle, or there could be risk of fire!
• The power outlets and therefore the electrical accessories
connected to them operate only with the ignition on. Improper
use of the outlets or of electrical accessories can lead to serious
injuries or cause a fire. For thi s rea son , children should never be
left unattended in the vehicle -they could be injured!
