Clear vision
To ensure the system works properly in winter, keep the washer jets
free of snow and remove any ice using a de-icing spray. •
Service position
The wiper blades can only be changed in the service posi­
tion.

Windshield wipers
-At below freezing outside temperatures, make sure first
that the wiper blades are not frozen to the windshield.
- Press the
I CAR I function button.

Windshield wipers. The Windshield wipers menu

Service position on to turn the service position on
or
off to return the windshield wiper to its original posi­
tion.
You must only attempt to change the wiper blades when the service position is activated. This way, when you are working on the wind­
shield wipers, you can avoid damaging the paint on the engine
hood.

• You can also turn on the service position, for example, if you
want to protect the windshield from icing, using a cover.
• The service position turns itself
off, whenever you use the wind­
shield wiper lever. •
Installing new wiper blades
Wiper blades in good condition help keep the windshield
clear.

& WARNING
Never adjust the lumbar support while the vehicle is moving. If you
adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you are out of posi­
tion. Never adjust the seatback when the vehicle is moving. •

The passenger's seat can be adjusted to various positions
by the driver.

Using the Convenience side view function, the passenger's seat is
adjusted so that the driver has the best possible view to the right .
When the Convenience side view is set, the specific position of the
driver's seat is taken into considera tion.
Using the
Seat symmetry function, the passenger's seat can be
moved to the same position as the driver's seat. The settings for the
driver's seat are imported and set automatically. •

The head restraints must be adjusted properly to provide
protection.

Technical data

If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key, you should save your individual seat position on one of the
memory buttons . You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by pressing the corresponding memory button. When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re-assigned to the remote control key and stored.
& WARNING
• For safety reasons, the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwise you risk having an accident.
• In an emergency, the recall operation can be stopped by
pressing the
I ON /OFF ) button or by briefly pressing any given
memory button. •

To be able to recall the stored settings with the remote
control key, the function has to be activated in
MM! .

Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON /OFF ) switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative.
The word
OFF next to the I ON /OFF ) switch illuminates .
All the stored settings are retained. Now the seat can only be adjusted electrically in the normal way. •

air conditioning controls.

The left dis play indicates the temperature selected for the d river's

The settings you make are shown in the MMI disp lay for a few
seconds when MMI is turned on.
Each function is turned on or off by briefly pressing the corre ­

• Res idual heat : With the ignit ion turned off , you can activate the
r esidual heat function by pressing the
I ON /OFF ) button. The
residual heat from the coo lant can be us ed to heat the vehicle inte ­
r ior. The residua l heat function is turned off automatically after 30
minutes .
• Synchronizing clim ate control: By press ing and ho ld ing the
control knob on the driver's side, the temperature setting on the
driver's side can be switched to the passenge r's side , and vice versa .
I n the case of vehicles wi th rear air conditioning*, the select ed
t emperature se tting is also app lied to the o uter rear seats . The new
temperature is shown in the display. •

- Press [ ON/OFF] to turn the air conditioner off and block
outside air from entering the vehicle.
The air conditioner turns back on if you press one of the control buttons or the contro l knob.

Automatic mode [AUTO I
The automatic mode is the standar d setting for all
seasons.
Turning on AUTO
- Select temperature between 60
°F (+ 16 °C) and 84 °F
(+28 °Cl.
- Press [AUTO j ~ page 116, fig. 129.
Automatic operation ensures constant temperatures in the interior
and dehumidifies the air inside the vehicle. Air temperature, vo lume
and dist ribu tion are controlled automatical ly to reach or maintain

the desired interior temperature as quickly as possible. Fluctuations
in exter ior temperature and the effects of temperature from the
position of the sun are compensated for automatica lly.
This operating mode works only in the adjustable temperature range , from 60 °F ( + 16 °C) to 84 °F ( +28 °C). If a temperature below
60 °F
(+ 16 °C) is selected, LO appears in the disp lay. At temperatures
above 84 °F (+28 °C),
HI is displayed . A t both extreme settings,
climate control runs continuously at maximum cooling or heating
power . There is no temperature regulation .•
Setting the temperature
Separate temperatures can be selected for the driver's
and fr ont passenger's side.

- Rot ate the cont ro l knob to the left to reduce the temper­
ature, or to the righ t to increase t he tempera ture .

The seat cushion and the seat back of the fron t seats can
be heated electrically.

In position O the heating for the seats is turned off . The range of
ad justment is between 1 and 6 .

on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat. •

The seat cushions and seat backs of the two outer rear
seats can be heated electrically.

- Rotate the thumb wheel @ to turn on and adjust the
heating for the left rear seat.
- Rotate the thumb wheel
® to turn on and adjust the
heating for the right rear seat.
With the thumb wheel in the O position, heating for the seats is
turned off . The range of adjustment is from 1 to 6.
The rear seat heating operates only when the seats are occupied. If
there is no one sitting in the rear, you should switch off the seat
heating .
0 Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements in the seats , do not kneel
on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat. •

The steering wheel can be heated electrically.

Press the[@!] button to turn the steer ing wheel heating on

Steering wheel heating off! appears in the instrument
cluster display.
When the steering wheel heating is switched on , the steering wheel
is heated to about 82°F (28°C) and held there.
The last setting selected for the steering wheel heating (on or off) is
automatically saved when the vehicle is shut off and is assigned to
the remote key. •

Air distribution
(ID
The automatically controlled air distribution can be
changed manually.

-Press the Distribution (!) button.
- Rotate the control knob to the desired setting=> fig. 135.
You can adjust the air circulation so that air flows from specific
vents. In position
-0 air flows only to the windows, in pos ition @to
the driver or passenger and in position
-0, to the footwell. There are
additional combinations available to adjust ai r distribution as
needed.
To regulate air distribution au tomatically, switch to !AUTO) .•
Defrosting [@]
The windshield and side windows are rapidly defrosted or
defogged .
-To turn on the defogger/defroster, press the[@] button
=> page 116, fig. 129.
- Press[ @] again or press [AUTO
I to turn off the
defogger/defroster.
The temperature is automatically controlled. Maximum airflow is
primarily blown in through outlets
(D and 0 ~ page 122.
By pressing[ @), both air recirculation and ECON are switched off .

When the outside temperature is low, pressing the[@] button turns
on the windshield defroster * automatically ~

Fan ~
The automatically preset fan speed can be reduced or
increased.

- Rotate the climate control knob to the desired fan speed

The climate control system automatically regulates fan speed
depending on interior temperature . You can adjust the volume of air
produced by the fan to your own requirements .•
