7EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS
4EGR SYSTEM
Due to the fragile nature of the catalyst element, it is important that damagedoes not occur when the vehicle is raised by means of a garage jack. Care must also be exercised to avoiddriving over road hazards or debris which may cause damage to the cata- lyst element. H020D01S-GAT ; For a diesel engine All Hyundai vehicles are equipped with oxidation type catalytic converter toreduce the carbon monoxide, hydro- carbons and particulate contained in the exhaust gas. H020C01S-GAT
; For a diesel engine
This system helps control oxides of
nitrogen by recirculating a part of the exhaust gas into the engine.

TYRE PRESSURES
SI030A2-E SNOW TYRES If it is desired to fit snow tyres to the vehicle, it must be ascertained thatthe original size and load carrying ca- pacity are met by the replacement tyres. When using snow tyres, thevehicle should not be driven at speeds in excess of 60 MPH.
In modern high-speed motoring, cor- rect tyre pressures are vitally impor- tant. Incorrect tyre pressures can af- fect vehicle safety by causing reducedadhesion, steering response and tyre failure through overheating. The tyre pressure must only be checked whenthe tyres are cold. The correct tyre pressures are indicated on the label affixed to the driver's side "C" pillerouter panel and below. 5.5Jx14 5.5Jx15 6.0Jx153.5Jx153.5Jx15

Tyre pressures should be increased by 3 psi when the vehicle is driven fully laden or under conditions of sus- tained high speed motoring. SI040A1-E TYRE CHAINS Tyre chains, when included, should be installed on the front wheels. Be sure that the chains are the proper size and that they are installed in accordancewith the manufacturer's instructions. To minimise tyre and chain wear, donot continue to use tyre chains when they are no longer needed.
CAUTION:
When driving on roads covered withsnow or ice, drive at less than 20 mph (30 km/h).

HA1409Spare tyre SI060A1-E TYRE BALANCING Incorrect tyre balance will cause steer- ing vibration and uneven tyre wear. The vehicle tyres are balanced during production but may need further bal-ancing throughout the life of the tyres. It is recommended that the tyres bebalanced on the car for best results and that the tyres are balanced when- ever they have been removed from thewheel for repair.
I060A01FC-EAT TYRE ROTATION The tyre wear characteristics will vary between each tyre dependant upon theconditions of use. It is normal for the front tyres to wear more rapidly than those fitted to the rear of the vehicleand therefore tyre rotation will provide a means of helping to ensure an even wear rate across the tyre set. Forvehicles fitted with radial ply tyres, rotation should be confined to front to rear tyre alternation. It is not recom-mended that radial ply tyres be rotated from side to side. NOTE:
o Do not use the temporary spare
tyre for tyre rotation.
o Aluminium wheels which are not supplied as Original Equipment should not be mixed on the same vehicle with the original steel wheels. However, it is acceptable that the steel spare wheel be used in conjunction with Original Equipment aluminium wheels since the offset of both wheels is compatible. Radial and cross ply tyres should not be mixed on the same vehicle.

WHEEL REPLACEMENT
The original wheels may only be re-
placed with Hyundai Approved wheels.
Tyres of different size, construction or
tread pattern should not be intermixed on the same axle. Radial and cross plytyres should not be used on the same vehicle.
The use of tyres and wheels of non
approved sizes can be dangerous.
WARNING:
o Driving on worn or defective tyres is dangerous. Worn tyres may cause loss of steering control and a serious deterioration of braking efficiency. Defective tyresmay cause vibration and loss of control through blow outs.
o Your vehicle is equipped with tyres designed to provide for saferide and handling capability. Do not use a size and type of tyre and wheel that is different from the one that is originally installedon your vehicle.

TYRE REPLACEMENT
0.06 in.(1.6 mm)
Wear indicator I090A02FC
Tyres must be replaced when the wear
indicators appear as a solid bar across the tyre tread. At this point, the re- maining tread depth will be approxi- mately 0.06 in.(1.6 mm). In addition tothis, the tyre must be replaced if any portion of the tread has become bald or if there are any lumps, bulges ordeep cuts in the sidewalls or tread. Replacement tyres must be of the
recommended size and rating andshould be of the same manufacture and tread pattern on each axle.
It can affect the safety and perfor- mance of your vehicle, whichcould lead to handling failure or rollover and serious injury. When replacing the tyres, be sure to equip all four tyres with the tyre and wheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carry- ing capacity. If you nevertheless decide to equip your vehicle withany tyre/wheel combination not recommended by Hyundai for off- road driving, you should not usethese tyres for highway driving.
o Tyres degrade over time, even
when they are not being used.Regardless of the remaining tread, it is recommended that tyres gen- erally be replaced after six (6)years of normal service. Heat caused by hot climates or fre- quent high loading conditions canaccelerate the aging process. Failure to follow this warning can result in sudden tyre failure, whichcould lead to a loss of control and an accident involving seri- ous injury or death.
