Handlebar switches

Engine stop switch “ENG. STOP”
Make sure that the engine stop switch is in the
“RUN” position before starting the engine. The
engine stop switch controls ignition and can be
used at all times to stop the engine, especially in
an emergency. The engine will not start or run
when the engine stop switch is turned to “OFF”.

Light switch “LIGHTS”
Set the switch to the “LO” position to switch on
the low beam and the taillight.
Set the switch to the “HI” position to switch on
the high beam and the taillight.
Set the switch to the “OFF” position to switch off
all the lights
NOTE:
The headlight and the taillight can be turned on
only when the engine is started.

Coupe-circuit du moteur “ENG. STOP”
S’assurer que le coupe-circuit du moteur est placé
sur “RUN” avant de mettre le moteur en marche.
Le coupe-circuit du moteur contrôle l’allumage et
peut à tout moment servir à couper le moteur. Il
est particulièrement utile en cas d’urgence. Le
moteur ne se met pas en marche ou ne tourne pas
quand son coupe-circuit est sur “OFF”.

Contacteur d’éclairage “LIGHTS”
Placer le contacteur à la position “LO” pour
allumer le feu de croisement et le feu arrière.
Placer le contacteur à la position “HI” pour allu-
mer le feu de route et le feu arrière.
Placer le contacteur sur “OFF” pour éteindre
tous les feux.
N.B.:
Le phare et le feu arrière ne s’allument que
lorsque le moteur tourne.

Interruptor de parada del motor “ENG.

Asegúrese de que el interruptor de parada del
motor esté en la posición “RUN” antes de arrancar
el motor. El interruptor de parada del motor con-
trola el encendido y puede utilizarse para parar el
motor en cualquier momento, especialmente en
casos de emergencia. Cuando se gira el interrup-
tor de parada a la posición “OFF”, el motor no
puede ser puesto en marcha ni funcionar.

Throttle lever
Once the engine is running, movement of the
throttle lever will increase the engine speed.
Regulate the speed of the machine by varying
the throttle position. Because the throttle is
spring-loaded, the machine will decelerate, and
the engine will return to an idle any time the
hand is removed from the throttle lever.
Before starting the engine, check the throttle to
be sure it is operating smoothly. Make sure it
returns to the idle position as soon as the lever
is released.

Malfunction of the throttle could make it diffi-
cult to speed up or slow down when you
need to. This could cause an accident.
Check the operation of the throttle lever
before you start the engine. If the throttle
does not work smoothly, check for the
cause. Correct the problem before riding the
ATV or consult a Yamaha dealer.

Levier d’accélération
Dès que le moteur tourne, son régime augmente
quand le levier d’accélération est actionné.
Régler la vitesse du véhicule en faisant varier
l’ouverture des gaz. Comme le levier d’accéléra-
tion est muni d’un ressort de rappel, le véhicule
ralentit et le moteur revient au régime de ralenti
dès que le levier est relâché.
Avant de mettre le moteur en marche, vérifier le
bon fonctionnement des gaz. S’assurer que le
véhicule retourne au régime de ralenti dès que le
levier est relâché.

Un mauvais fonctionnement du levier d’accéléra-
tion risque d’entraver l’accélération ou la décéléra-
tion. Ceci peut provoquer un accident. Vérifier le
bon fonctionnement du levier d’accélération avant
de mettre le moteur en marche. Si l’accélérateur ne
fonctionne pas correctement, en rechercher la
cause. Corriger le problème avant de conduire le
véhicule ou consulter un concessionnaire Yamaha.

Palanca de aceleración
Una vez que el motor gira con, desplazando la
palanca de aceleración se aumenta la velocidad
de giro.
Para regular la velocidad del vehículo, varíe la
posición del acelerador. Este lleva un muelle de
retorno que hace que disminuya la velocidad y
el motor vuelva al ralentí cuando se retira la
mano de la palanca de aceleración.
Antes de poner en marcha el motor, compruebe
que el acelerador funcione con suavidad.
Asegúrese de que vuelve a la posición de ralen-
tí cuando se suelta la palanca.

Si el acelerador no funciona correctamente,
puede ser difícil aumentar o reducir la veloci-
dad del vehículo cuando se desee. Eso
puede acarrear accidentes. Compruebe el
funcionamiento del acelerador antes de
poner en marcha el motor. Si el acelerador
no funciona con suavidad, averigüe la causa.
Resuelva el problema antes de utilizar la
máquina, o consulte a un concesionario
Yamaha.

Throttle OverRide System
If during operation, the carburetor or the throttle
cable should malfunction and will not close fully,
take your thumb off the throttle lever.
The Throttle OverRide System immediately cuts
off the ignition.

Riding with a malfunction increases the
chance for an accident and injury. Make sure
that the cause of the malfunction is correct-
ed before restarting the engine or have the
ATV inspected by a Yamaha dealer.

Système d’annulation des gaz
Si un problème se produit au niveau du carbura-
teur ou du câble de commande des gaz, retirer le
pouce du levier d’accélération.
Le système d’annulation des gaz coupe immé-
diatement l’allumage.

Rouler sans avoir réparé le véhicule augmen-
te les risques d’accident et de blessure.
S’assurer de corriger le problème avant de
mettre le moteur en marche ou faire contrôler
le VTT par un concessionnaire Yamaha.

Sistema de anulación del acelerador
Si con el vehículo en marcha, se produce algún
fallo del carburador o del cable de
aceleración y éste no cierra por completo, retirar
el pulgar de la palanca de aceleración.
El sistema de anulación del acelerador cortará
inmediatamente el encendido.

Utilizar el vehículo cuando no funciona
correctamente entraña riesgo de accidentes
y lesiones. Asegurarse de haber subsanado
la causa de los fallos antes de poner el
motor en marcha o hacer que un concesio-
nario Yamaha inspeccione la máquina.

Speed limiter
The speed limiter keeps the throttle from fully
opening, even when the throttle lever is pushed
to the maximum. Turning in the adjusting screw
limits the maximum engine power available and
decreases the maximum speed of the ATV.

Improper adjustment of the speed limiter and
throttle could cause throttle cable damage or
improper throttle operation. You could lose
control, have an accident or be injured. Do
not turn the adjusting screw out more than
12 mm or the throttle cable could be dam-
aged. Always make sure the throttle lever
free play is adjusted to 4–6 mm. See page
8-53.
