Good visibility
Rear window defroster
The rear window defroster uses a large
amount of power. To keep battery drain to
a minimum, switch off the defroster as
soon as the rear window is clear. The de-
froster is automatically deactivated after
approximately 6 to 17 minutes of
operation depending on the outside tem-
perature.
Activating
Switch on the ignition (
page 38).

Press button1 on the climate con-
trol panel (
page 218) or the automat-
ic climate control* panel (
page 232).
The indicator lamp on the button
comes on.Deactivating

Press button3 again.
The indicator lamp on the button goes
out.Warning!

Any accumulation of snow and ice should be
removed from the rear window before driv-
ing. Visibility could otherwise be impaired,
endangering you and others.
!If the rear window defroster switches
off too soon and the indicator lamp
starts flashing, too many electrical con-
sumers are operating simultaneously
and there is insufficient voltage in the
battery. The system responds automat-
ically by switching the rear window de-
froster off.
As soon as the battery has sufficient
voltage, the rear window defroster
switches back on automatically.

off, the outside air supply and circula-
tion are also switched off. Only choose
this setting for a short time. Otherwise
the windows could fog up.iYou can also press button´

to reactivate the climate control sys-
tem, the defrosting mode is activated.
iYou can also switch on and off the rear
climate control by pressing the respec-
tive button on the rear climate control

partment.

Deactivating rear climate control
Press button´.
The indicator lamp on the button goes
out.
The cooling function switches off after
a short delay.Adjusting air distribution
Use the air distribution controls2 or4
to adjust the air distribution for the rear
passenger compartment.
The symbols on the controls represent the
following functions:
Adjusting manually

Press the desired air distribution
control2 or4.
The indicator lamp in the Ubutton
goes out.Adjusting automatically

Press buttonU.
The indicator lamp in the button comes
on. The air distribution is adjusted au-
tomatically.
Adjusting air volume
The air volume for the rear zone corre-
sponds to the air volume settings for the
front passenger side. You can switch off
the air supply for the rear zone.
You can switch off the supplied amount of
air volume.

Press button´.
iThe temperature is adjusted according
to the settings for the front passenger
side made on the front climate control
panel (
page 222).
iSwitch off the rear automatic climate
control for improved cooling or heating
output in the front passenger compart-
ment.
You can also switch off the rear auto-
matic climate control from the front
passenger compartment (
page 220).

AUTO appears in the display of control
panele (
page 232). Air volume and
air distribution are controlled separate-
ly for each zone.
iYou can switch on and off the rear au-
tomatic climate control by pressing the
respective button on the rear climate
control panel (
page 244).
iWhen operating the climate control
system in automatic mode, you will
