5. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve assembly. Refer to AT- 4 0 4 , "
Control Valve Assembly and Accumulators" .
2. Check the following items:
–Shift valve A
–Overrun clutch control valve
–Shift solenoid valve A
–Pilot valve
–Pilot filter
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
6. CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again. Refer to AT- 2 7 0 , "
Cruise Test — Part 1" and AT- 2 7 3 , "Cruise Test — Part 2" .
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection. Refer to AT- 2 8 6 , "
TCM Terminals and Reference
Va l u e" .
2. If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.
7. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve assembly. Refer to AT- 4 0 4 , "
Control Valve Assembly and Accumulators" .
2. Check the following items:
–Shift valve A
–Overrun clutch control valve
–Shift solenoid valve A
–Pilot valve
–Pilot filter
3. Disassemble A/T. Refer to AT- 4 2 4 , "
Disassembly" .
4. Check the following items:
–Servo piston assembly
–Torque converter. Refer to AT- 4 2 4 , "Disassembly" .
–Oil pump assembly. Refer to AT- 4 4 3 , "Oil Pump" .
–Brake band
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 6
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.

SYMPTOM:
A/T does not perform lock-up at the specified speed.
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 2 4 2 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (WITH CONSULT-II)" or AT-
246, "Diagnostic Procedure Without CONSULT-II" .
Does self-diagnosis show damage to A/T fluid temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor
·A/T (revolution sen-
sor), engine speed signal, vehicle speed sensor·MTR or torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit after
cruise test?
YES >> Check damaged circuit. Refer to AT- 3 6 8 , "TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE"
, AT- 3 7 4 , "BATT/FLUID TEMP SEN (A/T FLUID TEMP SENSOR CIRCUIT AND TCM POWER
SOURCE)" , AT- 3 3 2 , "VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR·A/T (REVOLUTION SENSOR)" , AT- 3 8 2 ,
"ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL" , AT- 3 3 9 , "DTC VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR MTR" .
NO >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR
Check accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor. Refer to AT- 3 4 5 ,
"ACCELE RATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR"
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Repair or replace accelerator pedal position (APP) sen-
sor.
3. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve. Refer to AT- 4 0 4 , "
Control Valve Assembly and Accumulators" .
2. Check the following items:
–Torque converter clutch control valve
–Torque converter clutch solenoid valve
–Torque converter relief valve
–Pilot valve
–Pilot filter
3. Disassemble A/T. Refer to AT- 4 2 4 , "
Disassembly" .
4. Check torque converter. Refer to AT- 4 2 4 , "
Disassembly" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
4. CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again. Refer to AT- 2 7 0 , "
Cruise Test — Part 1" .
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> 1. Perform TCM input/output signal inspection. Refer to AT- 2 8 6 , "

SYMPTOM:
A/T does not hold lock-up condition for more than 30 seconds.
1. CHECK DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 2 4 2 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (WITH CONSULT-II)" or AT-
246, "Diagnostic Procedure Without CONSULT-II" .
Does self-diagnosis show damage to engine speed signal circuit after cruise test?
YES >> Check engine speed signal circuit. Refer to AT- 3 8 2 , "ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL" .
NO >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan. Refer to AT- 4 0 4 , "
COMPONENTS" .
2. Check A/T fluid condition. Refer to AT- 2 5 6 , "
FLUID CONDITION
CHECK" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> GO TO 5.
3. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
1. Remove control valve assembly. Refer to AT- 4 0 4 , "
Control Valve Assembly and Accumulators" .
2. Check the following items:
–Torque converter clutch control valve
–Torque converter clutch solenoid valve

9. Remove control valve inter body from control valve upper body.
10. Check to see that steel balls are properly positioned in control
valve inter body and then remove them.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to lose steel balls.
11. Remove pilot filter from control valve upper body.
12. Remove separating plate from control valve upper body.
13. Check to see that steel balls are properly positioned in control
valve upper body and then remove them.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to lose steel balls.
INSPECTION
Control Valve Lower Body and Upper Body
CAUTION:
Be careful not to lose these parts.
Check to see that retainer plates are properly positioned in con-
trol valve lower body.

Oil Cooler Relief Valve Spring
Check springs for damage or deformation.
Measure free length and outer diameter. Refer to AT- 5 3 0 , "SER-
VICE DATA AND SPECIFICATIONS (SDS)" .
ASSEMBLY
1. Install control valve upper, inter and lower body.
a. Place oil circuit of control valve upper body face up. Install steel
balls in their proper positions.
b. Install reamer bolts f from bottom of control valve upper body.
Using reamer bolts as guides, install separating plate as a set.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse separating plate.
c. Install pilot filter.
