AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
PRECAUTION
1. DO NOT HANDLE REFRIGERANT IN AN ENCLOSED
AREA OR NEAR AN OPEN FLAME
2. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION
3. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET LIQUID REFRIGERANT IN
YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN
If liquid refrigerant gets in your eyes or on your skin.
(a) Wash the area with lots of cool water.
CAUTION:
Do not rub your eyes or skin.
(b) Apply clean petroleum jelly to the skin.
(c) Go immediately to a physician or hospital for professional
treatment.
4. NEVER HEAT CONTAINER OR EXPOSE IT TO NAKED
FLAME
5. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP CONTAINER AND NOT
TO APPLY PHYSICAL SHOCKS TO IT
6. DO NOT OPERATE COMPRESSOR WITHOUT
ENOUGH REFRIGERANT IN REFRIGERANT SYSTEM
If there is not enough refrigerant in the refrigerant system oil lu-
brication will be insufficient and compressor burnout may occur,
so take care to avoid this, necessary care should be taken.
7. DO NOT OPEN HIGH PRESSURE MANIFOLD VALVE
WHILE COMPRESSOR IS OPERATING
If the high pressure valves opened, refrigerant flows in the re-
verse direction and could cause the charging cylinder to rup-
ture, so open and close the only low pressure valve.
8. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERCHARGE SYSTEM WITH
REFRIGERANT
If refrigerant is overcharged, it causes problems such as insuffi-
cient cooling, poor fuel economy, engine overheating etc.

FUEL SYSTEM (3MZ-FE)
PRECAUTION
1. PRECAUTION
(a) Before working on the fuel system, disconnect the engine wire No. 3 (battery negative terminal) from
battery.
(b) Do not smoke or work near open flame when working on the fuel system.
(c) Keep gasoline away from the rubber or leather parts.
2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
CAUTION:
Do not disconnect any parts of the fuel system pres-
sure until you have discharging the fuel system pres-
sure.
Even after discharge the fuel pressure, place a shop
rag over fittings as you separate them in order to re-
duce risk of fuel spray on yourself or in the engine
compartment.
(a) Disconnect the engine wire No. 3 (battery negative termi-
nal).
(b) Remove the circuit opening relay from the engine room
relay block.
(c) Connect the engine wire No. 3 (battery negative terminal).
Torque: 5.4 NVm (55 kgfVcm, 48 in.Vlbf)
(d) Start the engine. After the engine has stopped on its own,
turn the ignition switch OFF.
HINT:
There is a case that DTC P0171 (system to lean) is output.
(e) Check that the engine does not start.
(f) Remove the fuel tank cap, then let the air out of the fuel
tank.
(g) Disconnect battery negative terminal.
(h) Reinstall the circuit opening relay.
3. FUEL SYSTEM
(a) When disconnecting the high fuel pressure line, a large
amount of gasoline will spill out. So observe these proce-
dures.
(1) Work in order to prevent gasoline from spilling out.
(2) Disconnect the fuel pump tube (see page 11-20).
(3) Drain the fuel remaining inside the fuel pump tube.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT STARTER ASSY
NOTICE:
These tests must be performed within 3 to 5 seconds to
prevent burnout of the coil.
(a) Perform the pull-in test.
(1) Remove the nut, then disconnect the lead wire from
terminal C.
(2) Connect the battery to the repair service starter kit
as shown in the illustration. Check that the clutch
pinion gear is extended.
If the clutch pinion gear does not move, replace the starter mag-
netic switch.
(b) Perform the hold-in test.
(1) Disconnect the negative (-) lead from terminal C
with the lead wire disconnected from terminal C.
Check that the clutch pinion gear remains ex-
tended.
If the clutch pinion gear returns inward, replace the starter mag-
netic switch.
(c) Check the operation.
(1) Disconnect the negative (-) lead from the switch
body. Check that the clutch pinion gear returns.
If the clutch pinion gear does not return inward, replace the
starter magnetic switch.

(d) Perform the no-load performance test.
(1) Connect the lead wire to terminal C. Make sure that
the lead is not grounded.
Torque: 10 NVm (102 kgfVcm, 7 ftVlbf)
(2) Clamp the starter in a vise.
(3) Connect the battery and an ammeter to the starter
as shown in the illustration.
(4) Check that the starter rotates smoothly and steadily
with the clutch pinion gear extended. Check that the
ammeter reads the specified current.
Specified current: 90 A or less at 11.5 V
If the current is not as specified, replace the starter.
2. INSPECT STARTER RELAY ASSY
(a) Inspect the resistance.
(1) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance be-
tween the terminals.
Standard:
Tester ConnectionSpecified Condition
3 - 510 kW or higher
3 - 5Below 1W
(Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2
If the result is not as specified, replace the starter relay.
