ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)
C310A01LZ-AAT (Not all models)
On slippery road surfaces, the elec- tronic stability program (ESP) limitsthe drive wheels from spinning exces- sively, thus helping the car to acceler- ate. It also provides sufficient drivingforce and steering performance as the car turns at accelerated speeds. SLIP Control Limits the drive wheels from spinning excessively during starting or while making accelerated turns on slipperyroads to avoid losing the driving force of the front wheels. C310B01LZ-AAT ESP ON/OFF Mode When the ESP is running, the ESP indicator in the instrument cluster will blink.If you turn the system off by pressing the ESP switch, the ESP-OFF indica- tor will come on and stay on. In theESP-OFF mode, the SLIP control will be deactivated. Adjust you driving ac- cordingly. To turn the system back on,press the switch again. The ESP-OFF indicator should go off. NOTE:
1) The ESP mode will automatically
be turned ON after the engine is turned off and restarted.
2) When the electronic stability pro- gram is operating properly, youcan feel a slight pulsation in thevehicle. This is only the effect of brake control and indicates noth- ing unusual.
3) When the engine starts, a click is heard from the engine compart-ment; however, this is only thesound of traction control being checked.

SC150A1-F You can save fuel and get more miles from your car if you follow these sug- gestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a
moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shiftsand maintain a steady cruising speed. Don't race between stop- lights. Try to adjust your speed tothat of the other traffic so you don't have to change speeds unneces- sarily.Avoid heavy traffic whenever pos- sible. Al-ways maintain a safe dis- tance from other vehicles so youcan avoid unnecessary brak-ing. This also reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel yourcar uses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the highway, isone of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.

4) When moving out of the mud or fresh snow, pressing the accel- erator pedal may not cause the engine speed to increase due to ESP operation.
C310D01LZ-AAT Indicators and Warning The indicators should illuminate when the ignition key is turned to ON orSTART but should go out after three seconds. If the indicators do not illuminate, orthe ESP or ESP-OFF indicator does not go out after 3 seconds, have it checked by Hyundai authorised re-pairer. Should there be any unusual condi- tions in the device while driving, ESP- OFF indicator illuminates as a warn- ing.If ESP-OFF indicator illuminates, pull your car to a safe place and stop the engine.Then, start the engine again to check if the ESP-OFF indicator goes out. If the indicator remains lit even after the engine has been started, haveyour car checked by an Hyundai authorised repairer. NOTE:
1) When the ESP-OFF indicator il-
luminates, electronic stability program is automatically deacti- vated for safety.
2) This warning function is not pro- vided when the driver selects theESP-OFF mode.

o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This can increase fuel consumption and also increase wear on these components. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedalmay cause the brakes to overheat, which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con-sequences.
o Take care of your tires. Keep them
inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect inflation, either too much or too little, results in unnec- essary tire wear. Check the tire pres-sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned
correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or driving too fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tire wearand may also result in other prob- lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption.
o Keep your car in good condition. For better fuel economy and reducedmaintenance costs, maintain yourcar in accordance with the mainte- nance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions, more frequent maintenance is re-quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your car should be keptclean and free of corrosive materi-als. It is especially important that mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of thecar. This extra weight can result in increased fuel consumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces- sary weight in your car. Weight is anenemy of good fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engineand restart only when you're ready to go.
o Remember, your car does not re- quire extended warm-up. As soonas the engine is running smoothly, you can drive away. In very coldweather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period. o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine.
Lugging is driving too slowly in too high a gear resulting in the engine bucking. If this happens to you, shift to a lower gear.Over-revving is racing the engine
beyond its safe limit. This can be avoided by shifting at the recom-mended speeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly.
The air conditioning system is
operated by the engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it.

SC170A1-E The onset of winter conditions subject motor vehicles to greater operating demands. Therefore, the following suggestions will assist in maintainingpeak performance and reliability dur- ing these periods:WINTER MOTORING
ZC170B1-E Electrical System Winter conditions impose severe de- mands upon vehicle electrical systems,particularly the charging circuit. The battery condition and performance along with the alternator performanceand drive belt condition should be checked prior to the onset of winter.SC160A1-F Avoid braking or gear changing in cor- ners, especially when roads are wet. Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you followthese suggestions, tire wear will be held to a minimum.SMOOTH CORNERING
ZC170C1-E Anti-freeze/Corrosion inhibitor The cooling system must always con- tain an Ethylene-Glycol based anti- freeze solution. The system is filledduring manufacture with solution of the correct strength which should be checked before the onset of winter andadjusted or changed as required. NOTE: The anti-freeze solution contains a corrosion inhibitor to prevent deg-radation of the aluminum castings contained within the engine. There- fore, never, drain the system andrefill with water only.

In addition, anti-freeze solution must ALWAYS be used in vehicles fittedwith air conditioning, to prevent the heater matrix from freezing and sub- sequently bursting with the refrigera-tion system in use. ZC170D1-E Door Locks Should the door lock mechanism be- come frozen, a proprietary lock de-icer should be used. Alternatively, warm- ing the door key may thaw the doorlock. However, the key should be handled carefully to avoid burning the fingers.Never attempt to thaw a frozen door lock using hot water, since the water will eventually freeze and compoundthe problem. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobilizer key is from -40°F (- 40°C) to 176°F (80°C). If you heat the immobilizer key over 176°F (80°C)to open the frozen lock, it may cause damage to the transponder in its head. SC170E1-E Windscreen Washers and Wip- ers The windscreen washer bottle should be filled with a solution of water and a proprietary winter screen wash addi-tive. The windscreen wipers should not be used if the blades are frozen to the windscreen or if they are coveredwith snow, before this is removed. NOTE: Never allow undiluted screen washer fluid additive to spill upon the paintwork or use engine cool- ant anti-freeze since damage to thepaintwork may result.
o When driving in extreme conditions,
the windscreen wiper blades may fail to clear the screen properly due to the formation of ice upon theblade edge. It will therefore be nec- essary to periodically remove such ice to restore their efficiency.
o If the power operated door mirrors become frozen, attempts to adjustthese may damage the mechanism. o The formation of snow or ice built up
inside the wheel arches may inter-fere with the road wheels or steering mechanism. In such instances, un- usual noises or an increase in steer-ing effort may result. Therefore, ensure that the wheel arches are checked periodically and any accu-mulated snow or ice removed.
o It is advisable to carry emergency
equipment including, torch, shovel,tow rope, blankets etc., if a journey is to be undertaken into areas of severe road conditions.

YC200A1-E If you are considering towing with your car, you should first check with your Local Laws to determine their legal requirements.Since laws vary from county to county, the requirements for towing trailers, cars, or other types of vehicles orapparatus may differ. Ask your Hyundai dealer for further details before towing.
CAUTION:
Do not do any towing with your car during its first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) in order to allow the engine to have properly run-in. Failure to heedthis caution may result in serious engine or transaxle damage.
! YC200C3-A Trailer Brakes If your trailer is equipped with a braking system, make sure it conforms to fed-eral and/or local regulations and that it is properly installed and operating cor- rectly. NOTE: If you tow a trailer or vehicle, your car will require more frequent main-tenance due to the additional load. See Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions" on page 5-6.
YC200B2-E Trailer Hitches Select the proper hitch and ball combi- nation, making sure that its location is compatible with that of the trailer or vehicle being towed.Use a quality non-equalizing hitch which distributes the nose weight uniformly throughout the chassis. The hitch should be bolted securely to the car and installed by a qualifiedtechnician.

o Never connect a trailer brake sys- tem directly to the vehicle brake system.
o When towing a trailer on steep grades (in excess of 12%) payclose attention to the engine cool-ant temperature gauge to ensure the engine does not overheat. If the needle of the coolant tem-perature gauge moves across the dial towards "H" (HOT), pull over and stop as soon as it is safe todo so, and allow the engine to idle until it cools down. You may proceed once the engine hascooled sufficiently.
! YC200D2-E Safety Cables Should the hitch connection between your car and the trailer or vehicle youare towing fail, the trailer or vehicle could wander dangerously across other lanes of traffic and ultimately leave theroadway. To eliminate this potentially dangerous situation, safety cables, at- tached between your car and the traileror towed vehicle, are required.
