BRAKE SWITCH
BRAKE SWITCH
PFP:25230
DescriptionEBS009JW
The stop lamp switch is installed to brake pedal bracket. The switch
senses brake pedal position and sends an ON-OFF signal to the
ECM. The ECM uses the signal to control the fuel injection control
system.
ECM Terminals and Reference ValueEBS009JX
Specification data are reference values and are measured between each terminal and ground.
CAUTION:
Do not use ECM ground terminals when measuring input/output voltage. Doing so may result in dam-
age to the ECM's transistor. Use a ground other than ECM terminals, such as the ground.

Precautions for Drain CoolantEBS009QD
lDrain coolant when engine is cooled.
Precautions for Disconnecting Fuel PipingEBS009QE
lBefore starting work, make sure no fire or spark producing items are in the work area.
lRelease fuel pressure before disassembly.
lAfter disconnecting pipes, plug openings to stop fuel leakage.
Precautions for Removal and DisassemblyEBS009QF
lWhen instructed to use special service tools, use the specified tools. Always be careful to work safely,
avoid forceful or uninstructed operations.
lExercise maximum care to avoid damage to mating or sliding surfaces.
lCover openings of engine system with tape or the equivalent, if necessary, to seal out foreign materials.
lMark and arrange disassembly parts in an organized way for easy troubleshooting and re-assembly.
lWhen loosening nuts and bolts, as a basic rule, start with the one furthest outside, then the one diagonally
opposite, and so on. If the order of loosening is specified, do exactly as specified.
Precautions for Inspection, Repair and ReplacementEBS009QG
lBefore repairing or replacing, thoroughly inspect parts. Inspect new replacement parts in the same way,
and replace if necessary.
Precautions for Assembly and InstallationEBS009QH
lUse torque wrench to tighten bolts or nuts.
lWhen tightening nuts and bolts, as a basic rule, equally tighten in several different steps starting with the
ones in center, then ones on inside and outside diagonally in this order. If the order of tightening is speci-
fied, do exactly as specified.
lReplace with new gasket, packing, oil seal or O-ring.
lThoroughly wash, clean, and air-blow each part. Carefully check oil or coolant passages for any restriction
and blockage.
lAvoid damaging sliding or mating surfaces. Completely remove foreign materials such as cloth lint or dust.
Before assembly, oil sliding surfaces well.
lRelease air within route after draining coolant.
lAfter repairing, start engine and increase engine speed to check coolant, fuel, oil, and exhaust systems
for leakage.
Parts Requiring Angular TighteningEBS009QI
lUse an angle wrench for the final tightening of the following engine parts.
–Cylinder head bolts
–Lower cylinder block bolts
–Connecting rod cap bolts
–Crankshaft pulley bolt (No angle wrench is required as the bolt flange is provided with notches for angular
tightening)
lDo not use a torque value for final tightening.
lThe torque value for these parts are for a preliminary step.
lEnsure thread and seat surfaces are clean and coated with engine oil.

lIf some cylinders have low compression pressure, pour small amount of engine oil into the spark plug hole
of the cylinder to re-check it for compression.
–If the added engine oil improves the compression, the piston rings may be worn out or damaged. Check
the piston rings and replace if necessary.
–If the compression pressure remains at low level despite the addition of engine oil, the valves may be mal-
functioning. Check the valves for damage. Replace the valve or valve seat accordingly.
lIf two adjacent cylinders have respectively low compression pressure and their compression remains low
even after the addition of engine oil, the gaskets are leaking. In such a case, replace the cylinder head
gaskets.
8. Install spark plug, ignition coil and harness connectors.
Removal and InstallationEBS009R4

CautionEDS0005P
Observe the following precautions when disassembling and servicing drive shaft.
lThe wheel joint cannot be disassembled. Do not attempt to disassemble it.
lPerform work in a location which is as dust-free and dirt-free as possible.
lBefore disassembling and servicing, clean the outside of parts.
lThe disassembly and service location must be clean. Care must be taken to prevent parts from becoming
dirty and to prevent the entry of foreign objects.
lDisassembled parts must be carefully reassembled in the correct order. If work is interrupted, a clean
cover must be placed over parts.
lPaper shop cloths must be used. Fabric shop cloths must not be used because of the danger of lint adher-
ing to parts.
lDisassembled parts (except for rubber parts) should be cleaned with kerosene which shall be removed by
blowing with air or wiping with paper shop cloths.
Precautions for Brake SystemEDS0 00 I0
lWhen installing rubber parts, final tightening must be carried out
under unladen condition* with tires on ground.
*: Fuel, radiator coolant and engine oil full. Spare tire, jack,
hand tools and mats in designated positions.
lUse flare nut wrench when removing or installing brake tubes.
lAfter installing removed suspension parts, check wheel align-
ment and adjust if necessary.
lAlways torque brake lines when installing.

Checking Fuel LinesEBS00BKP
Inspect fuel lines, filler cap and tank for improper attachment, leaks,
cracks, damage, loose connections, chafing or deterioration.
If necessary, repair or replace faulty parts.
General PrecautionsEBS00BKQ
WA RN ING:
when replacing fuel line parts, be sure to observe the following.
lPut a “ CAUTION: FLAMABLE” sign in workshop.
lBe sure to work in a well-ventilated area and furnish workshop with a CO2fire extinguisher.
lDo not smoke while servicing fuel system, keep open flames and spark away from work area.
CAUTION:
lBefore removing fuel line parts, carry out the following procedures.
–a) Put drained fuel in an explosion-proof container and put the lid on securely, keep the container
in safe area.
–b) Release fuel pressure from fuel line, Refer toEC-34, "Fuel Pressure Check",EC-399, "Fuel
Pressure Check".
–c) Disconnect battery ground cable.
lAlways replace O-ring and clamps with new ones.
lDo not tighten hose clamps excessively to avoid damaging hoses.
lDo not kink or twist tubes when they are being installed.
lAfter installing tubes, run engine and check for fuel leaks at connections.
