Injector Control
1) General
Fuel clearing control and injector unsticking control have been added to the injector control.
2) Fuel Clearing Control
While the vehicle is being driven at speeds higher than 60 km / h (37.5 mph), and the ignition switch is
turned OFF after the ECM has detected a low temperature condition of less than 25C (77F) of intake
air temperature, the ECM closes the fuel shutoff valve for the delivery pipe. However, instead of immedi-
ately stopping the engine, the fuel clearing control allows the engine to stop on its own after the fuel in
the delivery pipe has been used up. If the engine is running even after 2 seconds or more have elapsed
after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, the EFI relay is turned OFF to stop the engine.
3) Injector Unsticking Control
When the ignition switch is turned ON after executing the fuel clearing control, the injector unsticking
control activates two cylinders at a time to unstick the valve that is frozen stuck onto the valve seat. At
low temperature conditions. At this time, the shutoff valve remains closed so that the injectors will not
inject fuel.
Gas Leak Judgment
If the ECM has detected a gas leak through the signals received from the pressure sensors, the ECM closes
the shutoff valves and flashes the low fuel level warning light.
These functions are canceled by resetting the ECM (by disconnecting the negative [-] terminal of the bat-
tery), which enables the engine to start.
(The ECM should be reset only after performing a gas leak check and making sure that the leak has been
eliminated.)
NOTE: The low fuel level warning light also flashes when the fuel level is extremely low. The flashing
patterns shown below differentiates a gas leak from a low fuel level.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
By a built±in sensor unit, the manifold absolute
pressure sensor detects the intake manifold absolute
pressure as a voltage.
The ECM then determines the basic injection dura±
tion and basic ignition advance angle based on this
voltage.
Since the manifold absolute pressure sensor does
not use the atmospheric pressure as a criterion, but
senses the absolute pressure inside the intake man±
ifold (the pressure in proportion to the preset abso±
lute vacuum O), it is not influenced by fluctuations
in the atmospheric, pressure due to high altitude
and other factors. This permits it to control the air±
fuel ratio at the proper level under all conditions.
If the ECM detect diagnostic trouble code ª31 ª, it operates the fail safe function, keeping the ignition
timing and fuel injection volume constant and making it possible to drive the vehicle.w

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS ON RELATED COMPONENTS
1. SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS)
Locations of SRS Components
Servicing vehicle with a Supplemental Restraint System (referred to as the SRS in the remainder of this
manual) installed.
When handling SRS components (removal, installation or inspection, etc.), always follow the directions
given in the repair manual for the relevant model year to prevent the occurrence of accidents and airbag
malfunction.
Also take the following precautions when repairing the body:
Work must be started after 90 seconds or longer from the time the ignition switch is set to the LOCK
position and the negative (±) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
(The airbag system is equipped with a back±up power source so that if work is started within 90 sec-
onds of disconnecting the negative (±) terminal cable of the battery, the airbag may be deployed.)
When the negative (±) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery, memory of the clock and audio
systems will be cancelled. So before starting work, make a record of the contents memorized by each
memory system. Then when work is finished, reset the clock and audio systems as before.
When the vehicle has tilt and telescopic steering, power seat, outside rear view mirror and power shoul-
der belt anchorage, which are all equipped with memory function, it is not possible to make a record of
the memory contents. So when the operation is finished, it will be necessary to explain this fact to the
customer, and request the customer to adjust the features and reset the memory.
When using electric welding, first disconnect the SRS connector (yellow color and 2 pins) under the
steering column near the combination switch connector on the glove compartment finish plate and
lower the front scuff plate before starting work.

SETTING THE SYSTEM
1. Turn the ignition key to the ºLOCKº
position and remove it.
The indicator light will start flashing every
1 second when the key is removed from
the ignition switch. (See ºEngine
immobiliser systemº for details.)
2. Have all passengers get out of the
vehicle.
3. Close and lock all the doors, trunk and
hood.
The indicator light will come on when all
the doors, trunk and hood are closed and
locked. The system will automatically be set after
30 seconds. When the system is set, the
indicator light will start flashing again.
4. After making sure the indicator light
starts flashing, you may leave the ve-
hicle.
Never leave anyone in the vehicle when
you set the system, because unlocking
from the inside will activate the system.
WHEN THE SYSTEM IS SET
Activating the system
The system will give the alarm under the
following conditions:If any of the doors is unlocked or if
the trunk or hood is forcibly opened
without the key or wireless remote con-
trol transmitter
If the battery terminal is disconnected
and then reconnected
The indicator light will come on when the
system is activating. If any of the door is unlocked without the
key or wireless remote control transmitter
and the key is not in the ignition switch,
all the doors will be automatically locked
again.
After one minute, the alarm will automati-
cally stop and the indicator light will starts
flashing again.
Reactivating the alarm
Once set, the system automatically resets
the alarm after the alarm stops.
The alarm will activate again under the
same circumstances described in
ºActivating the systemº.
Stopping the alarm
The alarm will be stopped by the following
three ways:Turn the ignition key from the ºLOCKº
to ºONº position.
Unlock any of the doors with the key
or wireless remote control transmitter.
Open the trunk with the key.
These ways cancel the system at the
same time.

Odometer and two trip meters
This meter displays the odometer and
two trip meters.
1. OdometerÐIt shows the total distance
the vehicle has been driven.
2. Two trip metersÐThey show two differ-
ent distances independently driven
since the last time each trip meter was
set to zero.
You can use one trip meter to calculate
the fuel economy and the other to
measure the distance on each trip. All
trip meter data is cancelled if the elec-
trical power source is disconnected.3. Trip meter reset knobÐIt can reset the
two trip meters to zero, and also
change the meter display.
To change the meter display, quickly
push and release the knob. The meter
display changes in the order from the
odometer to trip meter A to trip meter
B, then back to the odometer each
time you push.
To reset the trip meter A to zero, dis-
play the meter A reading, then push
and hold the knob until the meter is
set to zero. The same process can be
applied for resetting the trip meter B.(
