DTC P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
DTC P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
DTC P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
DTC P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Misfire: The ECM uses the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor to monitor changes in
the crankshaft rotation for each cylinder.
The ECM counts the number of times the engine speed change rate indicates that misfire has occurred.
When the misfire rate equals or exceeds the count indicating that the engine condition has deteriorated, the
MIL lights up.
If the misfire rate is high enough and the driving conditions will cause catalyst overheating, the MIL blinks
when misfiring occurs.

P0303For any particular 200 revolutions of the engine, misfiring is
detected which can cause catalyst overheating (This causes
MIL to blink)

HINT:
When the 2 or more codes for a misfiring cylinder are recorded repeatedly but no Random Misfire code is
recorded, it indicates that the misfires were detected and recorded at different times.

8. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION
(a) Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing
mark º0º of the No.1 timing belt cover.
NOTICE:
Always turn the crankshaft clockwise.
(b) Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pul-
leys are aligned with the timing marks of the No.4 timing
belt cover.
If not, turn the crankshaft 1 revolution (360°).
9. REMOVE TIMING BELT FROM CAMSHAFT TIMING
PULLEYS
HINT:
(Re-using timing belt):
Place matchmarks on the timing belt and camshaft timing pul-
leys as shown in the illustration.
(a) Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and remove them, the ten-
sioner and dust boot.
(b) Disconnect the timing belt from the camshaft timing pul-
leys.

(a) Apply sealant to 2 or 3 threads of the 2 bolts.
Sealant:
Part No. 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344,
LOCTITE 242 or equivalent.
(b) Torque the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.8 N´m (90 kgf´cm, 78 in.´lbf)
15. INSTALL STEERING DAMPER
Torque the 2 bolts.
16. INSTALL 3 TENSION SPRINGS
17. INSTALL COMPRESSION SPRING
(a) Install the 2 bushings to the spring.
(b) Apply sealant to 2 or 3 threads of the torx screw.
Sealant:
Part No. 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344,
LOCTITE 242 or equivalent.
(c) Using a torx socket wrench, torque the screw.
Torque: 6.4 N´m (65 kgf´cm, 56 in.´lbf)
18. INSTALL COLUMN PROTECTOR AND WIRING HAR-
NESS CLAMP
Tighten the 2 screws.
19. INSTALL COLUMN UPPER BRACKET AND COLUMN
UPPER CLAMP

Check intake air system, and repair or replace parts
as necessary. (See page TC-5)

Check exhaust system, and repair or replace parts
as necessary. (See page TC-5)
Check exhaust system, and repair or replace parts
as necessary. (See page TC-5) Check turbocharging pressure. (See page TC-5)
Turbocharging pressure:
61 - 75 kPa
(0.62 - 0.76 kgf/cm2, 8.8 - 10.8 psi)
If the pressure is below specifications, begin
diagnosis from item 2.
Check rotation of turbine shaft. If it does not turn or
turns with a heavy drag, replace the turbocharger
assembly.
Check axial and radial play of turbine shaft.
(See page TC-18)
Maximum axial play : 0.110 mm (0.0045 in.)
Maximum radial play: 0.173 mm (0.0068 in.)
If the play is greater than maximum, replace the
turbocharger assembly.

HINT:
Before troubleshooting the turbocharger, first check the engine itself. (Valve clearance, engine compression,
ignition timing etc.)
