BRAKES – WARNING LAMPS
WARNING: Driving your vehicle withthe warning lamp on is dangerous. Asignificant decrease in brakingperformance may occur. It may take youlonger to stop your vehicle. Have yourvehicle checked as soon as possible.Driving extended distances with theparking brake engaged can cause brakefailure and the risk of personal injury.
If the ABS indicator illuminateswhen you are driving, this indicatesa malfunction. Your vehiclecontinues to have normal braking withoutthe anti-lock braking system function. Seean authorized dealer.
It also momentarily illuminates when youswitch the ignition on to confirm the lamp isfunctional. If it does not illuminate when youswitch the ignition on, or begins to flash atany time, have the system checked by anauthorized dealer.
The brake indicator momentarilyilluminates when you switch theignition on to confirm the lamp isfunctional. It may also illuminate when youapply the parking brake and the ignition ison. If it illuminates when your vehicle ismoving, make sure the parking brake isdisengaged. If the parking brake isdisengaged, this indicates low brake fluidlevel or a brake system fault. See anauthorized dealer.

Will wet driving conditions effect mybraking abilities?
Wet brakes result in reduced brakingefficiency. Gently press the brake pedala few times when driving from a carwash or standing water to dry thebrakes.
Is brake noise considered normal?
Occasional brake noise is normal. If ametal-to-metal, continuous grinding orcontinuous squeal sound is present, thebrake linings may be worn-out and anauthorized dealer should check them.If the vehicle has continuous vibrationor shudder in the steering wheel whilebraking, an authorized dealer shouldcheck your vehicle.
When should you replace the brake fluid?
Brake fluid absorbs water over timewhich degrades the effectiveness of thebrake fluid. Change the brake fluid atthe specified intervals to preventdegraded braking performance. SeeNormal Scheduled Maintenance (page568).

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING
HOW DOES ELECTRIC POWERSTEERING WORK
The electric power steering system assiststhe brake system to help operate advancedstability control and accident avoidancesystems.
If your vehicle loses electrical power ordetects a concern when you are driving thesystem switches off and you retain normalsteering function. Additionally, whenever thebattery is disconnected or a new battery isinstalled, you must drive your vehicle a shortdistance before the system relearns thestrategy and reactivates all systems.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERINGPRECAUTIONS
WARNING: The electric powersteering system has diagnostic checks thatcontinuously monitor the system. If a faultis detected, a message displays in theinformation display. Stop your vehicle assoon as it is safe to do so. Switch thevehicle off. After at least 10 seconds, switchthe vehicle on and watch the informationdisplay for a steering system warningmessage. If a steering system warningmessage returns, have the system checkedas soon as possible.
WARNING: If the system detects anerror, you may not feel a difference in thesteering, however a serious condition mayexist. Have your vehicle checked as soonas possible. Failure to do so may result inloss of steering control.
Adapt your speed and driving behavioraccording to reduced steering assist.
Extreme continuous steering may increasethe effort to steer. This occurs to preventinternal overheating and damage to thesteering system. If this occurs, you will notlose the ability to steer your vehicle manuallynor will it cause damage to the system.Normal steering and driving allows thesystem to cool down and steering assistreturns to normal.
Note:There is no fluid reservoir to check orfill.
STEERING – TROUBLESHOOTING
STEERING – WARNING INDICATORS
The electric power steering systemindicator illuminates if the systemdetects a fault during thecontinuous diagnostic checks.
Note:If a red warning message displays, stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe to doso.

Crashes
A crash or impact significant enough torequire an emergency response forconventional vehicles would also require thesame response for an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle.
If Possible:
1.Move your vehicle to a safe, nearbylocation and remain on the scene.
2.Roll down the windows before you switchyour vehicle off.
3.Place your vehicle in park (P), set theparking brake, switch off the vehicle, activate the hazard flashers and moveyour key(s) at least 16 ft (5 m) away fromthe vehicle.
Always:
•Call emergency assistance if needed andadvise that an electric or hybrid-electricvehicle is involved.
•Avoid contact with leaking fluids andgases, and remain out of the way ofoncoming traffic until emergencyresponders arrive.
•When emergency responders arrive, tellthem that the vehicle involved is anelectric vehicle or hybrid-electric vehicle.
Fires
As with any vehicle, call emergencyassistance immediately if you see sparks, smoke or flames coming from the vehicle. Remain a safe distance from the vehicle andtry to stay clear of the smoke.
1.Exit the vehicle immediately.
2.Advise emergency assistance that anelectric or hybrid-electric vehicle isinvolved.
3.As with any vehicle fire, do not inhalesmoke, vapors or gas from the vehicle,as they may be hazardous.
Post-Incident
1.Do not store a severely damaged vehiclewith a lithium-ion battery inside astructure or within 49 ft (15 m) of anystructure or vehicle.
2.Make sure that passenger and luggagecompartments remain ventilated.
3.Call emergency assistance if you observeleaking fluids, sparks, smoke or flames,or hear gurgling or bubbling from thehigh-voltage battery.
SWITCHING THE HAZARD
FLASHERS ON AND OFF
The hazard flasher button is on theinstrument panel. Press the buttonto switch the hazard flashers on ifyour vehicle is creating a safety hazard forother road users.
When you switch the hazard flashers on, allfront and rear direction indicators flash.

12 Volt Battery
•When storing your vehicle for greaterthan 30 days the state of charge shouldbe approximately 50%. Additionally, werecommend disconnecting the 12vbattery which will reduce system loadson the battery.
•Check and recharge as necessary. Keepconnections clean.
Note:It is necessary to reset memoryfeatures if you disconnect the battery cables.
Brakes
Make sure the brakes and parking brakerelease fully.
Note:If you intend on parking your vehiclefor an extended period after cleaning thewheels with a wheel cleaner, drive yourvehicle for a few minutes before doing so toreduce the risk of increased corrosion of thebrake discs, brake pads and linings.
Tires
Maintain recommended air pressure.

REMOVING YOUR VEHICLE FROM
STORAGE
When your vehicle is ready to come out ofstorage, do the following:
•We recommend that you change theengine oil before you use your vehicleagain.
•Wash your vehicle to remove any dirt orgrease film build-up on window surfaces.
•Check windshield wipers for anydeterioration.
•Check the underhood for any foreignmaterials such as mice or squirrel nests.
•Check the exhaust for any foreignmaterials.
•Check tire pressures and set tire inflationper the Tire Label.
•Check brake pedal operation. Corrodedbrake rotors could cause brake noise.Drive your vehicle and gently apply andrelease the brakes repeatedly over a10-minute drive to reduce the corrosionfrom the brakes.
•Check fluid levels (including coolant, oiland gas) to make sure there are no leaks, and fluids are at recommended levels.
•If you remove the battery, clean thebattery cable ends and check fordamage.
