*1: These lights come on when the
engine switch is turned to ON to indi-
cate that a system check is being
performed. They will turn off after the
engine is started, or after a few sec-
onds. There may be a malfunction in
a system if the lights do not come
on, or turn off. Have the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer.

Vehicle status information and indicators
By selecting menu icons on the multi-
information display, a variety of driving-
related information can be displayed.
The multi-information display can also
be used to change display settings and
other vehicle settings.
Warning or advice pop-up displays are
also displayed in certain situations.
■Menu icons
The menu icons will be displayed
by pressing the or meter
control switch.
■Liquid crystal display
Small spots or light spots may appear on the display. This phenomenon is
characteristic of liquid crystal displays, and there is no problem continuing to use the display.
The multi-information display is

WARNING
■Back door handles
Do not hang any object to the back
door handles. If any object is hung, the back door may suddenly shut, causing parts of
the body to be caught, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Operating the back door
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may cause parts of
the body to be caught, resulting in death or serious injury.
●Remove any heavy loads, such as snow and ice, from the back door before opening it. Failure to do so
may cause the back door to sud- denly shut again after it is opened.
●When opening or closing the back door, thoroughly check to make sure the surrounding area is safe.
●If anyone is in the vicinity, make sure they are safe and let them
know that the back door is about to open or close.
●Use caution when opening or clos-ing the back door in windy weather as it may move abruptly in strong
wind.
●Vehicles without power back door: The back door may suddenly shut if it is not opened fully. It is more diffi-
cult to open or close the back door on an incline than on a level sur-face, so beware of the back door
unexpectedly opening or closing by itself. Make sure that the back door is fully open and secure before
using the luggage compartment.
●Vehicles with power back door: The
back door may suddenly shut if it is not opened fully, while on a steep incline. Make sure that the back
door is secured before using the luggage compartment.
●When closing the back door, take extra care to prevent your fingers, etc., from being caught.
●Vehicles without power back door: When closing the back door, make
sure to press it lightly on its outer surface. If the back door handle is used to fully close the back door, it
may result in hands or arms being caught.

●The luggage compartment light turns
on when the back door is opened.
●If the luggage compartment light is left
on when the engine switch is turned off, the light will go off automatically after 20 minutes.
■Using the wireless remote
control
Press and hold the switch.*
A buzzer sounds and the power back
door automatically opens/closes.
Unlock the back door before operating.
Pressing the switch while the power
back door is opening/closing stops the

■Back door damper stays
The back door is equipped with
damper stays that hold the back door in place.Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause damage to the back door damper stay, result-ing in malfunction.
●Do not attach any foreign objects, such as stickers, plastic sheets, or
adhesives to the damper stay rod.
●Do not touch the damper stay rod
with gloves or other fabric items.
●Do not attach any accessories
other than genuine Toyota parts to the back door.
●Do not place your hand on the damper stay or apply lateral forces to it.

To prevent unintentional operation, turn
the Hands Free Power Back Door (kick
sensor) operation setting off. ( P.135)
■When reconnecting the battery
To enable the power back door to oper- ate properly, close the back door manu-
ally.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. power back door opening angle) can be changed. (Customizable
features: P.457)
WARNING
■Back door closer
●In the event that the back door is
left slightly open, the back door closer will automatically close it to the fully closed position. It takes
several seconds before the back door closer begins to operate. Be careful not to catch fingers or any-
thing else in the back door, as this may cause bone fractures or other serious injuries.
●Use caution when using the back door closer as it still operates when
the power back door system is can- celed.
■Power back door
Observe the following precautions when operating the power back door.
Failure to do so may cause death or serious injury.
●Check the safety of the surrounding
area to make sure there are no obstacles or anything that could cause any of your belongings to get
caught.
●If anyone is in the vicinity, make
sure they are safe and let them know that the back door is about to open or close.
●If the power back door system is turned off while the back door is
operating automatically, the auto- matic operation is stopped. The back door then has to be operated
manually. Take extra care when on an incline, as the back door may open or close unexpectedly.
●If the operating conditions of the power back door are no longer met,
a buzzer may sound and the back door may stop opening or closing. The back door then has to be oper-
ated manually. Take extra care when on an incline, as the back door may open or close abruptly.
●On an incline, the back door may suddenly shut after it opens. Make
sure the back door is fully open and secure.

3-3. Adjusting the seats
Before driving
WARNING
●Stop the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake and shift the
shift lever to P (Multidrive) or N (manual transmission).
●Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded seatback or in the luggage compartment while driving.
●Do not allow children to enter the luggage compartment.
●Do not allow anyone to sit on the rear center seat if the rear right seat
is folded down, as the seat belt buckle for the rear center seat belt is then concealed under the folded
seat and cannot be used.
●Be careful not to get your hand
caught when folding the rear seat- backs.
●Adjust the position of the front seats before folding down the rear seat-backs so that the front seats do not
interfere with the rear seatbacks when folding down the rear seat-backs.
■After returning the rear seatback to the upright position
●Make sure that the seatback is securely locked in position by lightly pushing it back and forth.
If the seatback is not securely locked,
the red marking will be visible on the
seatback lock release lever. Make
sure that the red mark is not visible.
●Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught in the seatback.
If the seat belt gets caught between
the seatback’s securing hook and
latch, it may damage the seat belt.
