WARNING
■Replacing light bulbs
● Turn off the lights. Do not attempt to replace the bulb immediately after
turning off the lights.
The bulbs become very hot and may cause burns.

to avoid getting moisture and oils on the bulb.
Also, if the bulb is scratched or dropped, it may blow out or c rack.
● Fully install light bulbs and any parts used to secure them. Failure to do so
may result in heat damage, fire, or water entering the headligh t unit. This
may damage the headlights or cause condensation to build up on the lens.
● Do not attempt to repair or disassemble light bulbs, connectors, electric
circuits or component parts.
Doing so may result in death or serious injury due to electric shock.
■ To prevent damage or fire
● Make sure bulbs are fully seated and locked.
● Check the wattage of the bulb before installing to prevent heat damage.

by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer ,
or any reliable repairer.

When trouble arises
■If a message that indicates the need for referring to Owner’s Manual is
displayed
● If “Engine Coolant Temperature High.”is shown, follow the instructions
(P. 757).
● If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authoriz ed Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r. Continuing to
drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
• “Braking Power Low.”
• “Charging System Malfunction.”
• “Engine Oil Pressure Low.”
● If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-
ately have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retai ler or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• “Hybrid System Malfunction.”
• “Check Engine.”
• “Hybrid Battery System Malfunction.”
• “Accelerator system Malfunction.”
• “Entry & Start System Malfunction.”
• “Exhaust filter full.” (P. 531)
• “Hybrid System Stopped”
• “Engine Stopped”
● If the “Low 12-Volt Battery.” is shown,
• When the display goes off after several seconds (displays for about 6
seconds):
Maintain the hybrid system operation for more than 15 minutes a nd
charge the 12-volt battery.
• When the display does not go off:
Start up the hybrid system using the procedures: P. 749
● If “Maintenance required for Traction battery cooling parts. See owner’s
manual.” is shown, the filters may be clogged, the air intake v ents may be
blocked, or there may be a gap i n the duct. Therefore, perform the following
correction procedure.
• If the air intake vents and filters of the hybrid battery (tra ction battery) are
dirty, perform the procedure on P. 640 to clean them.
• If the warning message is shown when the air intake vents and filters of

When operating the vehicle, shift to P and restart the hybrid s ystem.
■ If “Traction battery needs to be protected. Refrain from the use of
position.” is shown
This message may be displayed when the shift lever is in N.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the shift lever
is in N, shift the shift lever to P when the vehicle is stopped .
■ If “Shift is in Release Accelerator Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depres sed and
the shift lever is in N.
Release the accelerator pedal and shift the shift lever to D or R.

■Engine oil selection
Gasoline Engine -
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Toyota vehicle. Toyo ta
recommends the use of approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil”.
Another motor oil of matching quality can also be used.
Oil grade:
0W-16:
API grade SN “Resource-Conserving”, SN PLUS “Resource-Con-
serving” or SP “Resource-Conserving”; or ILSAC GF-6B multigrade
engine oil
0W-20 and 5W-30:
API grade SM “Energy-Conserving”, SN “Resource-Conserving”,
SN PLUS “Resource-Conserving” or SP “Resource-Conserving”; or
ILSAC GF-6A multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity (SAE):
SAE 0W-16 is filled into your
Toyota vehicle at manufactur-
ing, and the best choice for
good fuel economy and good
starting in cold weather.
If SAE 0W-16 oil is not avail-
able, SAE 0W-20 oil may be
used. However, it should be
replaced with SAE 0W-16 at the
next oil change.
