Parking Support Brake function (rear-
crossing vehicles)
This function will operate in situations such as the following if a vehi-
cle is detected in the traveling direction of the vehicle.
■When reversing, a vehicle is approaching and the brake pedal
is not depressed, or is depressed late

If a rear radar sensor detects a vehicle approaching from the
right or left at the rear of the vehicle and the system determi nes
that the possibility of a collision is high, this function will per-
form brake control to reduce the likelihood of an impact with t he
approaching vehicle.

When illuminated, depress the

Displayed when the assist mode can be changed and the system ca n be
turned off or on using the S-IPA switch.
Steering wheel auto operation display
Displays when the steering wheel auto operation is being perfor med.

Follow the instructions on the display and perform any indicated opera-
tions.
As an example, the illustration shows the display indicating it is necessary
to depress the brake pedal in order to control the vehicle spee d and to con-

■ S-IPA indicator inside the meter (P. 161)
This indicator illuminates when the steering wheel auto operati on is being
performed by the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System. Afte r control
ends, the indicator blinks for a short period of time and then turns off.
■ Toyota parking assist-sensor pop-up display
While the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating , if the
PKSB (Parking Support Brake) system detects an obstacle, the To yota
parking assist-sensor display automatically pops up on the guid ance
screen ( P. 457), regardless of whether the PKSB (Parking Support
Brake) system is on or off. ( P. 4 7 8 )
■ If the vehicle speed is about to exceed the speed limit during assist con-
trol
A buzzer will sound and a message indicating that the vehicle s peed may
exceed the operation speed limit will be displayed. When the me ssage is
displayed, immediately depress the brake pedal to decelerate. I f the vehi-
cle continues to accelerate, assist control will be canceled wh en the vehi-
cle speed exceeds a certain speed. ( P. 5 2 2 )

WARNING
■When using exit parallel parking assist mode
In the following situation, be sure to drive carefully as the s ide sensors may
not be able to correctly detect objects, possibly leading to an accident.
NOTICE
●Do not use exit parallel parking assist mode in any situation other than
when departing a parallel parking spot.
If assist control is started unintentionally, depress the brake pedal and stop
the vehicle, then press the S-IPA switch to cancel the assist c ontrol.
● The detection range of the sensors (P. 461) is limited. Directly confirm
the safety of your surroundings, and if there is a possibility of a contact
accident, stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal.
● It may not be possible to detect objects that are low to the ground. Directly
confirm the safety of your surroundings and, if it seems the ve hicle may
make contact with an obstacle, stop the vehicle by depressing t he brake
pedal.
● When departing for a position from which you can take off, directly confirm
the safety of your surroundings.
When an object is in an area which is out
of the detection range of the side sen-

WARNING
●In the following situations, the sensors may not operate normally and may
lead to an accident. Drive carefully.
• Obstacles cannot be detected in the side areas until a scan of the side
areas is completed. ( P. 463)
• Even after the scan of the side areas is completed, obstacles such as
other vehicles, people or animals that approach from the sides cannot
be detected.
• The sensor is frozen (if it thaws, the system returns to norma l).
A warning message may display at particularly low temperatures due to
the sensor freezing and it may not detect parked vehicles.
• The sensor is blocked by someone’s hand.
• The vehicle is tilted a large amount.
• The temperature is extremely hot or cold.
• The vehicle is driven on undulating roads, slopes, gravel road s, in areas
with tall grass, etc.
• An ultrasonic wave source is nearby, such as the horn or senso rs of
another vehicle, a motorcycle engine or the air brake of a larg e vehicle.
• Heavy rain or a water strikes the vehicle.
• The angle of the sensor may be deviated when assist control st arts
even if there is a parked vehicle in the target parking spot. H ave the
vehicle inspected at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota a uthorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• Do not install any accessories within the sensor detection ran ge.

WARNING
■When using the compact spare tire (if equipped)
● Remember that the spare tire provided is specifically designed for use with
your vehicle. Do not use your spare tire on another vehicle.
● Do not use more than one compact spare tire simultaneously.
● Replace the spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
● Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shifting
operations that cause sudden engine braking.
■ When the compact spare tire is attached (if equipped)
The vehicle speed may not be correctly detected, and the follow ing systems
may not operate correctly:

■ Speed limit when using the compact spare tire (if equipped)
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 80 km/h (50 mph) when a com pact
spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high spee ds. Failure to
observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death o r serious
injury.
■ After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools and jack are securely i n place in their
storage location to reduce the possibility of personal injury d uring a collision
or sudden braking.

few seconds.)
●Is the electronic key left inside the vehicle?
