When trouble arises
●Fluid leaks un der the vehicle.
(Water dripping from the air conditioning a fter use is normal.)
● Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
● Engine coolant temperature gauge needle continually points high er
than normal
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the hybrid system
● Engine missing, stumb ling or running roughly
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one s ide when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touch es
the floor
If you think something is wrong
If you notice any of the followi ng symptoms, your vehicle proba -
bly needs adjustment or repair. Contact your Toyota dealer as
soon as possible.

If a warning light turns on or a war ning
buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning ligh ts
comes on or flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then
goes off, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the
system. However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle
inspected by your Toyota dealer.

• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
 Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-

Brake system warning li ght (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative braking system;
• The electronically controlled brake system; or
• The electric parking brake

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system;
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
ABS warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
Inappropriate pedal operation warning light (warning
buzzer)

When a buzzer sounds:
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The Brake Override System
• The Drive-Start Control
• The Intelligent Clearance Sonar (if equipped) is operat-
ing ( P. 321)
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
• Indicates that the shift position was changed and Drive- Start Control was operated while depressing the accel-
erator pedal.
 Momentarily release th e accelerator pedal.
When a buzzer does not sound:
Indicates that the accelerator and brake pedals are being
depressed simultaneously, and the Brake Override Sys-
tem is operating.
 Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake
pedal.

Parking brake indicator (warning buzzer)*2
It is possible that the parking brake is not fully engaged or
released
 Operate the parking brake once again.
This light comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is ful ly
released, the system is operating normally.

Brake hold operated indicator Indicates a malfunction in the brake hold system

When a buzzer sounds simultaneously:
Indicates a malfunction has occurred in the PCS (Pre-Col-
lision System).
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
When a buzzer does not sound:
The PCS (Pre-Collision System) has become temporarily
unavailable, corrective action may be necessary.
 Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display. (P. 244, 488)
If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle Stability
Control) system is disabled, the PCS warning light will illu-
minate.

*2: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of appr oximately 3
mph (5 km/h) or more.
*3: Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer:
The driver's seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert the driver that his or
her seat belt is not fastened. Once the power switch is turned to ON mode,
the buzzer sounds. If the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer sounds
intermittently for a certain period of time after the vehicle r eaches a certain
speed.
The front passenger’s seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert the front
passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the sea t belt is unfas-
tened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time after the
vehicle reaches a certain speed.
*4: Rear passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The rear passengers’ seat belt warning buzzer sounds to alert t he rear
passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. If the sea t belt is unfas-
tened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time, after
the seat belt is fastened and unfastened and the vehicle reache s a certain
speed.
Tire pressure warning light Indicates the following:
• Low tire pressure due to flat tire;
• Low tire pressure due to natural causes; or
• The tire pressure warning system is malfunctioning
 Immediately stop the veh icle in a safe place.

WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact your Toyota
dealer. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braki ng, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the assist to the power steerin g is
restricted. When the light comes on red, the assist to the power steering is
lost and handling operations of the steering wheel become extre mely
heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.

If the tire pressure warning light comes on
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could
cause a loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
●Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire
inflation pressure immediately.
●If the tire pressure warning light comes on even after tire inf lation pres-
sure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Chec k the tires.
If a tire is flat, change it with the spare tire and have the flat tire
repaired by the nearest Toyota dealer.
●Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires dete riorate,
you could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.

■Warning messages
The warning messages explained below may differ from the actual messages
according to operation conditions and vehicle specifications.
■ System warning lights
The master warning light does not come on or flash in the following cases.
Instead, a separate system warning light will come on along wit h a message
shown on the multi-information display.
● Malfunction in the ABS
The ABS warning light comes on. ( P. 479)
● Malfunction in the brake system
The brake system warning light (yellow) comes on. ( P. 478)
● Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
The tire pressure warning light comes on. ( P. 482)
● Remaining fuel level is low
The low fuel level warning light comes on. ( P. 481)
■ If a message instructing to refer to the Owner’s Manual is disp layed
● If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction .
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your T oyota dealer.
Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.

When trouble arises
■If “Hybrid System Overheated Output Power Reduced” is shown
This message may be displayed when driving under severe operati ng condi-
tions. (For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Handling method: P. 517
■ If “Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s
Manual” is shown
The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be blocked or there may be
a gap in the duct.
● If the air intake vent or filter is dirty, refer to P. 456 for cleaning the air intake
vent and filter.
● If the message is being displayed and the air intake vent and f ilter are not
dirty, have the vehicle inspected at your Toyota dealer.
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Refrain From the Use of N
Position” is shown
This message may be displayed when the shift lever is in N.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the shift lever
is in N, shift the shift lever to P when the vehicle is stopped .
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Shift into P to Rest art” is
shown
This message is displayed when the hybrid battery (traction battery) charge
has become extremely low because the shift lever has been left in N for a cer-
tain amount of time.
When operating the vehicle, shift to P and restart the hybrid s ystem.
■ If “Shift to P Before Exiting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without t urning the
power switch off with the shift lever in any position other tha n P.
Shift the shift lever to P.
■ If “Shift Is in N Release Accelerat or Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift lever is in N. Release the accelerator pedal and shif t the shift lever to
D or R.
■ If “Press Brake When Vehicle Is Stopped Hybrid System May Overh eat”
is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal is depressed to maintain
the vehicle position when stopped on a upward slope, etc.
If this continues, the hybrid system may overheat.
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
