Instructions for fueling:
1. Turn off the engine and open the fuel fillerdoor.

NOTE
Refueling must be done within approximately15 minutes of opening the fuel filler door.After this time, the valve opened by pushingthe button for opening the fuel filler door willclose and it will no longer be possible torefuel without the pump's nozzle switching off.
If the valve is closed before refueling is com-plete - press the button again and wait untilthe driver display shows the message Fueltank Ready for refueling.
2. Select a fuel approved for use in the vehicle.For more information on approved fuels, seethe section on “Fuel”.
3.Insert the pump's nozzle into the fuel fillerpipe's opening. There are two flaps justinside the fuel filler pipe and the pump's noz-zle must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.
4. Avoid overfilling the tank. Do not press thehandle on the filler nozzle again after it hasinitially stopped pumping.
> The fuel tank is now filled.

NOTE
An over-full tank may overflow in hot weather.

CAUTION
Avoid spilling gasoline during refueling. Inaddition to causing damage to the environ-ment, gasolines containing alcohol can causedamage to painted surfaces, which may notbe covered under the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.

Refueling from a fuel container
When filling from a fuel container, use the funnelprovided in a foam block under the floor hatch inthe cargo compartment.
1. Open the fuel filler door.
2. Insert the funnel into the fuel filler pipe'sopening. There are two flaps just inside thefuel filler pipe and the tube section of thefunnel must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.

Heated oxygen sensors
The heated oxygen sensors monitor the oxygencontent of the exhaust gases. Readings are fedinto a control module that continuously monitorsengine functions and controls fuel injection. Theratio of fuel to air into the engine is continuouslyadjusted for efficient combustion to help reduceharmful emissions.

Overheating of engine andtransmission
In certain driving conditions, such as driving inmountainous areas or hot weather, there is a riskof the engine or transmission overheating, espe-cially when carrying heavy loads.
Engine power may be temporarily limited.
Remove any auxiliary lights mounted in frontof the grille when driving in hot weather.
If the temperature in the engine's coolingsystem becomes too high, a warning symbolwill appear in the instrument panel along withthe message Engine temperature Hightemperature Stop safely. Pull over to asafe location and let the engine idle for a fewminutes to cool down.
If the message Engine temperature Hightemperature Turn off engine or Enginecoolant Level low, turn off engine is dis-played, stop the vehicle and turn off theengine.
If the transmission begins to overheat, analternative gear shifting program will beselected. An integrated protective functionwill also be activated, the warning symbol willilluminate and the message Transmissionwarm Reduce speed to lowertemperature or Transmission hot Stopsafely, wait for cooling will be displayed inthe instrument panel. Follow the recommen-dations given by reducing speed or stopping
the vehicle safely and letting the engine idlefor a few minutes to let the transmissioncool.
If the vehicle begins to overheat, the air con-ditioning may be temporarily switched off.
After a prolonged period of driving indemanding conditions, do not turn off theengine immediately after stopping.
NOTE
It is normal for the engine's cooling fan tooperate for a short time after the engine isswitched off.

Battery drain
The electrical functions in the vehicle drain thebattery to varying degrees. Avoid using ignitionmode II when the engine is switched off. Useignition mode I instead, as this uses less electri-cal current.
Note that certain accessories may also drainpower from the electrical system. Do not usefunctions that use a lot of electrical current whenthe engine is turned off. Examples of such func-tions are:
blower
headlights
windshield wipers
audio system (especially at high volume).
If the starter battery voltage is low, a message isshown in the driver display. The vehicle's energy-saving function will then turn off or reduce certainfunctions, such as the blower and/or the audiosystem.
–Charge the battery by starting the engineand let it run for at least 15 minutes (drivingcharges the battery faster than letting theengine idle).

Jump starting using another battery
If the start battery is discharged, current fromanother battery can be used to start the vehicle.
Jumper cable connecting points.
CAUTION
The charging point of the vehicle is onlyintended for jump starting the vehicle in ques-tion. The charging point is not intended forjump-starting another vehicle. Using thecharging point to start another vehicle couldcause a fuse to blow, which would cause thecharging point to stop working.
If a fuse has blown, 12 V Battery Fuse failureService required will be displayed in the instru-ment panel. Volvo recommends contacting anauthorized Volvo workshop.

The automatic transmission selects the optimalgear for the current load and engine speed.

Steep inclines
Do not lock the automatic transmission into ahigher gear than what the engine can handle ‒ itis not always preferable to drive in high gears atlow rpm.

Parking on a hill
1. Depress the brake pedal.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3.Put the gear selector in P.
4. Release the brake pedal.
Put chocks behind the wheels when the vehicleis parked on a hill with a trailer attached.

Starting on a hill
1. Depress the brake pedal.
2.Put the gear selector in D.
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Release the brake pedal and start driving.

Trailer Stability Assist*
Trailer Stability Assist (TSA12) is a functiondesigned to help stabilize a vehicle that is tow-ing a trailer when the vehicle and trailer havebegun to sway. The function is part of the Elec-
tronic Stability Control system ESC13.
Reasons for swaying
A vehicle towing a trailer may begin to sway forvarious reasons. Normally this only occurs at highspeeds. However, if the trailer is overloaded orunevenly distributed, e.g. too far back, there is arisk of swaying even at low speeds.
Swaying may be caused by factors such as:
The vehicle and trailer are hit by a sudden,strong crosswind.
The vehicle and trailer are traveling on anuneven road or over a bump.
Sudden movements of the steering wheel.
Once swaying has begun, it can be difficult orimpossible to stop it. This makes the vehicle andtrailer difficult to control and there is a risk ofswerving into oncoming traffic or driving off theroad.

Trailer Stability Assist function
Trailer Stability Assist continuously monitors thevehicle's movements, particularly lateral move-
ments. If swaying is detected, the brakes areapplied individually on the front wheels, which hasa stabilizing effect on the vehicle and trailer. Thisis often enough to enable the driver to regaincontrol of the vehicle.
If the Trailer Stability Assist function's firstattempt is not adequate to stop the swayingmotion, the brakes are applied on all wheels andengine power is temporarily reduced. As theswaying motion begins to decrease and the vehi-cle and trailer have once again become stable,TSA stops regulating the brakes/engine powerand the driver regains control of the vehicle.
NOTE
Trailer Stability Assist is deactivated if thedriver selects the sport mode by deactivatingESC in the center display's menu system.
Trailer Stability Assist may not intervene if thedriver tries to compensate for the swaying motionby moving the steering wheel rapidly, becausethe system will then not be able to determine if itis the trailer or the driver causing the swaying.

Checking trailer lights
When connecting a trailer, make sure that all ofthe lights on the trailer are functioning beforestarting to drive.
Trailer turn signals and brake lights
If one or more of the turn signals or brake lightson the trailer is not working, a symbol and mes-sage will be displayed in the instrument panel.The other lights on the trailer must be checkedmanually by the driver before the vehicle is driven.

If any of the trailer's turn signal lights is not work-ing, the turn signal symbol in the instrumentpanel will also flash more quickly than normal.

Trailer rear fog light
When a trailer is connected, the vehicle's rear foglight may not illuminate and rear fog light func-tionality is instead transferred to the trailer. If thisis the case, check to see if the trailer is equippedwith a rear fog light before activating the vehicle's
fog lights when driving with a trailer to helpensure safe operation.
Checking trailer lights *
Automatic check
When the trailer has been connected to the vehi-cle's electrical system, its lights can be checkedby automatically activating them. This functionhelps the driver check that the trailer's lights arefunctioning correctly before starting to drive.
In order to perform this check, the vehicle mustbe switched off.
1. When a trailer is connected to the towbar,the message Automatic Trailer LampCheck will appear in the instrument panel.
2.Acknowledge the message by pressing theO button on the right-side steering wheelkeypad.
> The light check will begin.
3. Get out of the vehicle to perform the check.
> All of the lights on the trailer will beginflashing, and then illuminate separatelyone at a time.
4. Visually check that all of the trailer's lightsare functioning correctly.
5. After a short time, all of the trailer's lights willstart flashing again.
> The light check is completed.

Disabling the automatic check
The automatic light check can be disabled in thecenter display.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2.Tap My CarLights and Lighting.
3.Deselect Automatic Trailer Lamp Check.

Manual check
If the automatic check has been disabled, thecheck can be started manually.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2.Tap My CarLights and Lighting.
3.Select Manual Trailer Lamp Check.
>The light check will begin. Get out of thevehicle to perform the check.

Towing using a towline
This section refers to one vehicle being towedbehind another using a towline.
Never attempt to tow a Twin Engine vehiclebehind another vehicle as this could damage theelectric motor. The vehicle must instead be liftedonto a tow truck and transported with all fourwheels on the bed or lifting platform of the truck(no wheels may touch the road).
Towing another vehicle
Towing another vehicle requires a lot of power -use the Constant AWD drive mode. This helpscharge the hybrid battery and improve the vehi-cle's driving and roadholding characteristics.
Before towing another vehicle, check applicablespeed limit regulations.

Jump starting
Never attempt to tow the vehicle to start theengine, as this could damage the electric motor.Use an auxiliary battery if the start battery'scharge level is so low that the engine cannot bestarted.

CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could causedamage to the electrical drive motor andthree-way catalytic converter.

Activating and deactivating the
compass*
An integrated compass22 in the upper right cor-ner of the rearview mirror shows the directionthe vehicle is traveling.

Activating and deactivating the
compass
The compass is automatically activated when thevehicle is started.
To deactivate/activate the compass manually:
–Use a paper clip or similar object to press thebutton on the bottom of the mirror.

The globe is divided into 15 magnetic zones.
The compass23 should be calibrated if the vehi-cle is driven from one zone to another.
To calibrate the compass:
1.Stop the vehicle in a large, open area awayfrom steel constructions and high-voltagepower lines.
2. Start the engine and switch off all electricalequipment (climate system, wipers, etc.) andmake sure all doors are closed.
NOTE
Calibration may fail or not even be initiated ifelectrical equipment is not turned off.
3. Hold the button on the bottom of the rear-view mirror pressed for about 3 seconds(using e.g. a paper clip). The number of thecurrent magnetic zone is shown.

4. Press the button on the underside of themirror repeatedly until the desired magneticzone (1–15) appears (see the map of mag-netic zones).
5.Wait until the display again shows C, orpress and hold the button on the undersideof the rearview mirror for approx. 6 secondsuntil C is displayed.
6.Drive slowly in a circle at a speed of no morethan 10 km/h (6 mph) until a compass direc-tion is shown in the display. This indicatesthat calibration is complete. Drive in a circletwo more times to fine-tune the calibration.
