Mercedes-Benz emer

the Mercedes-Benz emer‐
ge ncy call sy stem
Yo ur vehicle is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz
emer gency call sy stem ("eCall"). This feature can
help sa velives in theev ent of an accident. eCall
in no wayre places assis tance pr ovided from
dialing 911.
The Mercedes-Benz emer gency call sy stem is
av ailable for at least tenye ars starting from the
manufacturing date.
Mercedes-Benz eCall only functions in areas
where mobile phone co verage isavailable from
th e wireless service pr oviders. Insuf ficient net‐
wo rkcoverage from the wireless service pr ovid‐
ers may result in an emergency call not being
transmitted.
eCall is a standard feature in your Mercedes-
Benz vehicle. In order tofunction as intended,
th e sy stem relies on the transmission of data
de tailed in the "Mercedes-Benz emer gency call
sy stem data transmission" section that follo ws
( → page 306). To
disable eCall, a cus tomer must visit an
auth orized Mercedes-Benz Service department
to deactivate theve hicle's communication mod‐
ule.
Deactivation of this module pr events the
activation of any and all Mercedes me con‐
nect services. Af ter the deacti vation of
eCall, automatic eme rgency call and manual
emer gency call will not be available.
The ignition must be switched on before an auto‐

Overview of the Mercedes-Benz emer gency
call sy stem
eCall can help toreduce the time between an
accident and the ar riva l of emer gency services at
the site of the accident. It helps locate an
accident site in places that are dif ficult to
access. Ho wever, eve n if a vehicle is equipped
with eCall, this does not mean the sy stem is ON.
As such, eCall does not replace dialing 911 in the
eve nt of an accident.
The emergency call can be made au tomatical ly
( → page 305) or manually (→ page 305). Only
make emer gency calls if you or others are in
need of rescue.
Only make emer gency calls if you or others are

call in theev ent of a breakdown or a similar sit‐
uation.
