The engine cannot be
started using the Start/

Meanwhile, the fuel filler flap will not be locked
or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the
inside if the vehicle has been locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
You can openadoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. You can open the rear
doors from inside the vehicle unless they are
secured by the child-proof lock (
Ypage 60).
If the vehicle has previously been locked with
the SmartKey from the outside, opening adoor
from the inside will trigger the anti-theft alarm
system. Switch off the alarm (
Ypage 68).
If al ocked door is opened from the inside, the
previous unlock status of the vehicle will be
taken into consideration if:
Rthe vehicle was locked using the locking but-
ton for the central locking, or
Rif the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. If only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked, only the
door which has been opened from the inside is
unlocked.
Automatic lockingf eature
XTo deactivate:press and hold button :for
approximately five seconds until atone
sounds.

If you press one of the two buttons and do not
hear atone, the relevant settin ghas already
been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels are turn-
ing. You could therefore lock yourself out if:
Rthe vehicle is being pushed
Rthe vehicle is being towed
Rthe vehicle is on
aroller dynamometer
You can also switch the automatic locking func-
tion on and off using the on-board computer
(
Ypage 187).
Unlocking the driver's door (mechan-
ical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO,
use the mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door, the anti-theft alarm sys-
tem will be triggered. Switch off the alarm
(
Ypage 68).
XTake the mechanical key out of the SmartKey
(Ypage 72).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock of the
driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
as far as it will go to position 1.
The door is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove it.
XInsert mechanical key into the SmartKey
(Ypage 72).
Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the mechanical
key.
XOpen the driver's door.
XClose the front-passenger door, the rear
doors and the trunk lid.

Opening automatically
You can open th etrunk lid automaticall yusing
th eS martKey or th ehandle in th etrunk lid.
XPress and hold the Fbuttonont heSmart-
Key until th etrunk lid opens.
or
XIf th etrunk lid is unlocked, pull th etrunk lid
handle and let it go again immediately.
HANDS-FREE ACCESS
Important safety notes
GWARNING
The vehicle's exhaust system may be ver yhot.
You coul dburn yourself by touching the
exhaust system if you use HANDS-FREE
ACCESS .Thereisar iskofi njury. Always
ensure that you only mak ethe kickin gmove-
men twithin th edetection range of sensors.
!If th eSmartKey is within th erear detection
range of KEYLESS-GO ,the followings itua-
tions ,for example ,coul dlead to th euninten-
tional opening of th etrunk:

Makes ure that th eSmartKey is at least 10 ft
(3 m) away from th evehicle.
iYou can also deactivate KEYLESS-GO .Fur-

General notes
WithK EYLESS-GO and HANDS-FRE EACCESS,
you can open th etrunk lid without usingy our
hands. This is useful if you have your hands full. To do this, mak eakickingmovement unde rthe
bumpe rwithy our foot.
Observ ethe followingp oints:
RCarryyour KEYLESS-GO ke yabout your per-
son.T he KEYLESS-GO ke ymust be in th erear
detection range of th evehicle.
RWhen making th ekickin gmovement ,make
sure that you are standing firmly on the
ground and that there is sufficient clearance
to th erear of th evehicle .You coul dotherwise
lose your balance, for example on ice.

Do not carry the KEYLESS-GO key abouty our

ilar to these. Thi swillp revent the uninten-
tional opening of the trun klid.

Using KEYLESS-GO
The driver's door and the door at which the han-
dle is used, must both be closed. The SmartKey
must be outside the vehicle. The gap between
the SmartKey and the corresponding door han-
dle should not be greater than 3ft(1m).
XTouch recessed sensor surface :on the
door handle until the side windows and the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
are fully closed.
iMake sure you only touch recessed sensor
surface :.
XMake sure that all the side windows are
closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and the

Resetting the side windows
If as ide window can no longer be closed fully,
you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to position 1or2 in the
ignition lock (Ypage 122).
XPull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel until the side window is com-
pletely closed (
Ypage 82).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens agains lightly:
XImmediately pull the corresponding switch on
the door control panel until the side window is
completely closed (
Ypage 82).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
XIf the respective side window remains closed
after the button is released,t hen it has been
set correctly. If this is not the case, repeat the
steps above.
Problems with the side windows
GWARNING
If you close aside window againi mmediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window
closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury or
even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process, release
the switch or push the switch againtor eopen the side window.

XHoldontot he wiper arm with one hand. With
the otherh and, turn wiper blad eindirection
of arrow :away from the wiper arm as far as
it will go.
XSlide catch ;in the direction of arrow =

noticeable click.
XRemove the wiper blad einthe direction of
arrow ?away from the wiper arm.
