3. Using a tool, press and hold the brakeshift interlock switch. The shift buttonson the instrument panel will flash whenyour vehicle is in override mode.
4. With the override switch still held, pressthe neutral (N) button to shift from park.
5. Release the override button.
6. Your vehicle will remain in neutral forwrecker towing purposes or can beshifted to the desired gear and driven (ifpossible).
7. Release the parking brake.
Automatic Transmission AdaptiveLearning
This feature increases durability and providesconsistent shift feel over the life of yourvehicle. A new vehicle or transmission mayhave firm or soft shifts. This operation willnot affect function or durability of yourtransmission and is normal. Over time, theadaptive learning process will fully updatetransmission operation. Additionally, thestrategy must be relearned whenever thebattery is disconnected or a new battery isinstalled.
If Your Vehicle Gets Stuck In Mud orSnow
Note:Do not rock your vehicle if your engineis not at normal operating temperature ordamage to your transmission may occur.
Note:Do not rock your vehicle for more thana minute or damage to your transmissionand tires may occur, or your engine mayoverheat.
If your vehicle gets stuck in mud or snow,you can help rock your vehicle out by shiftingbetween forward and reverse gears,stopping between shifts in a steady pattern.Press lightly on the accelerator in each gear.

Operating AWD Vehicles With Spareor Mismatched Tires
WARNING: Only use replacement tiresand wheels that are the same size, loadindex, speed rating and type (such asP-metric versus LT-metric or all-seasonversus all-terrain) as those originally providedby Ford. The recommended tire and wheelsize may be found on either the SafetyCompliance Certification Label (affixed toeither the door hinge pillar, door-latch post,or the door edge that meets the door-latchpost, next to the driver’s seating position), orthe Tire Label which is located on the B-Pillaror edge of the driver’s door. If thisinformation is not found on these labels, thenyou should contact your authorized dealeras soon as possible. Use of any tire or wheelnot recommended by Ford can affect thesafety and performance of your vehicle,which could result in an increased risk of lossof vehicle control, vehicle rollover, personalinjury and death.
A spare tire of a different size other than thetire provided should never be used. TheAWD system may disable automatically andenter front-wheel drive only mode to protectdriveline components if a non-full sized tireis installed. This condition may display anAWD OFF message in the informationdisplay. If there is an AWD OFF message inthe information display from using a non-fullsized spare tire, this indicator should turn offafter reinstalling the repaired or replacednormal road tire and cycling the ignition offand on. It is recommended to reinstall therepaired or replaced road tire as soon aspossible.
Major dissimilar tire sizes between the frontand rear axles (for example, 17 inch lowprofile tires on the front axle and 22 inch highprofile tires on the rear axle) could cause theAWD system to stop functioning and defaultto front-wheel drive or damage the AWDsystem. However, the AWD system iscapable of tolerating any combination of newand worn tires of the same original tire size.For example, using 3 worn tread tires and 1new tread tire all of the same original tiresize, can be tolerated by the AWD system.
Driving In Special Conditions With All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
AWD vehicles are equipped for driving onsand, snow, mud and rough roads and haveoperating characteristics that are somewhatdifferent from conventional vehicles, both onand off the highway.
When driving at slow speeds in deep sandunder high outside temperatures, use a lowgear when possible. Lower gear operationwill maximize the engine and transmissioncooling capability.
Under severe operating conditions, the A/Cmay cycle on and off to protect overheatingof the engine.
Basic operating principles in specialconditions
•Drive slower in strong crosswinds whichcan affect the normal steeringcharacteristics of your vehicle.
•Be extremely careful when driving onpavement made slippery by loose sand,water, gravel, snow or ice.

All-Wheel Drive (If Equipped)

Note:When in reverse (R), Auto Hold doesnot function.
When Auto Hold is off, your vehicle behavesthe same as a vehicle without Auto Hold.
There is an Auto Hold indicator lamp in theinstrument cluster that has two modes, activeand unavailable.
The Auto Hold (ACTIVE) indicatorlight illuminates in the informationdisplay when the system holdsyour vehicle stationary. When in active mode,press the brake pedal and the Auto Holdbutton to switch Auto Hold off.
The Auto Hold (UNAVAILABLE)indicator light illuminates in theinformation display when thesystem is on but unavailable to hold yourvehicle (for example, during Active ParkAssist, Stay in Neutral Mode, or when youdo not fasten your seatbelt or close thedoor).
Note:Make sure you switch off Auto Holdor use the Stay in Neutral mode before youenter a car wash. See AutomaticTransmission (page 194).
Using Auto Hold
1. Bring your vehicle to a stop by pressingthe brake pedal. After coming to a stop,the green Auto Hold (ACTIVE) indicatorlamp illuminates in the informationdisplay.
2.Release the brake pedal. The Auto Hold(ACTIVE) indicator light remainsilluminated in the information display andAuto Hold will hold your vehicle at a stop.
3. When you press the accelerator pedal,Auto Hold releases the brakes and allowsyou to drive off. Once you drive off, thegreen Auto Hold (ACTIVE) indicator nolonger illuminates in the informationdisplay.

The system may not correctly operate in anyof the following conditions:
•You use a spare tire or a tire that issignificantly worn more than the othertires.
•One or more tires are incorrectly inflated.
•You try to park on a tight curve.
•Something passes between the frontbumper and the parking space. Forexample, a pedestrian or cyclist.
•The edge of the neighboring parkedvehicle is high off the ground. Forexample, a bus, tow truck or flatbedtruck.
•The weather conditions are poor. Forexample, during heavy rain, snow, fog,high humidity and high temperatures.
Do not use the system if:
•You have attached an add-on accessoryclose to the sensors on the front or rearof your vehicle. For example, a bike rackor trailer.
•You have attached an overhangingobject to the roof. For example, asurfboard.
•The front bumper, rear bumper or theside sensors are damaged.
•The correct tire size is not in use on yourvehicle. For example, a mini-spare tire.
Using Active Park Assist
Selecting an Active Park Assist Mode
Press the button once to activateparallel parking. Press the buttona second time to activateperpendicular parking. If you press thebutton again the system switches off.
If your vehicle is parked and after you switchthe ignition on, you can use the informationdisplay to toggle through the modes. Pressthe button to switch the system on and openthe system menu in the information display.
Note:If your vehicle is parked, the defaultmode is parallel park out assist. However, ifyou did not use active park assist to parallelpark your vehicle, use the informationdisplay to select park out assist.
Note:You can repeatedly press the activepark assist button to toggle through themodes only after moving your vehicleapproximately 33 ft (10 m).

Parallel Parking
The system detects available parallel parkingspaces and steers your vehicle into thespace. You control the accelerator, gearshiftand brakes. The system visually and audiblyguides you into a parallel parking space.
Press the button once to searchfor a parking space.
Note:You can also switch the system onafter you have already driven partially orcompletely past a parking space. Press theactive park assist button and the systeminforms you if you have recently passed asuitable parking space.
When the vehicle speed is less than 22 mph(35 km/h), the system scans both sides ofyour vehicle for an available parking space.A message and a graphic appear in theinformation display to indicate the system issearching for a parking space. Use thedirection indicator lever to search for aparking space on the driver or passengerside of your vehicle.
Note:The system scans both sides of yourvehicle and offers parking spaces one sideat a time if you do not use the directionindicator.
Note:The system defaults to the passengerside if you do not use the direction indicator.
Drive your vehicle approximately 3 ft (1 m)and parallel to the other parked vehicleswhen searching for a parking space.
Note:If you drive your vehicle less than 2 ft(0.5 m) or greater than 5 ft (1.5 m) away fromother parked vehicles, the system may notbe able to detect an available parkingspace.
When the system detects a suitable space,a message displays and a tone sounds. Stopyour vehicle and follow the onscreeninstructions. If your vehicle is moving veryslowly, you may have to move forward ashort distance before the system is ready topark.
Note:You must observe that the space thesystem selects remains clear of obstructionsat all times during the maneuver.
Note:The system always offers the lastparking space it detects. For example, if yourvehicle detects multiple spaces when youare driving, it offers the last one.
Note:If the vehicle speed is greater thanapproximately 22 mph (35 km/h), the systemshows a message to instruct you to reducethe vehicle speed.

WARNING: Always pay close attentionto changing road conditions when usingadaptive cruise control. The system does notreplace attentive driving. Failing to payattention to the road may result in a crash,serious injury or death.
WARNING: Do not use the adaptivecruise control when entering or leaving ahighway, on roads with intersections orroundabouts or non-vehicular traffic or roadsthat are winding, slippery, unpaved, or steepslopes.
WARNING: Do not use the system inpoor visibility, for example fog, heavy rain,spray or snow.
WARNING: Do not use the systemwhen towing a trailer with aftermarket trailerbrake controls. Aftermarket trailer brakes willnot function properly when you switch thesystem on because the brakes areelectronically controlled. Failing to do so mayresult in loss of vehicle control, which couldresult in serious injury.
WARNING: Do not use tire sizes otherthan those recommended because this canaffect the normal operation of the system.Failure to do so may result in a loss of vehiclecontrol, which could result in serious injury.
WARNING: Adaptive cruise controlmay not detect stationary or slow movingvehicles below 6 mph (10 km/h).
WARNING: Adaptive cruise controldoes not detect pedestrians or objects in theroad.
WARNING: Adaptive cruise controldoes not detect oncoming vehicles in thesame lane.
WARNING: Adaptive cruise control isnot a crash warning or avoidance system.
Note:It is your responsibility to stay alert,drive safely and be in control of the vehicleat all times.
The system adjusts your vehicle speed tomaintain the set gap between you and thevehicle in front of you in the same lane. Youcan select four gap settings.
The system uses a radar sensor that projectsa beam directly in front of your vehicle.

Cruise Control

Changing the Set Speed
•Press RES+ or SET- to change the setspeed in small increments.
•Press the accelerator or brake pedal untilyou reach the desired speed. Press RES+or SET-.
•Press and hold RES+ or SET- to changethe set speed in large increments.Release the control when you reach thedesired speed.
The system may apply the brakes to slowthe vehicle to the new set speed. The setspeed displays continuously in theinformation display when the system isactive.
Canceling the Set Speed
Press CAN or tap the brake pedal. The setspeed does not erase.
Resuming the Set Speed
Note:Only use resume if you are aware ofthe set speed and intend to return to it.
Press RES+. Your vehicle speed returns tothe previously set speed and gap setting. The set speed displays continuously in theinformation display when the system isactive.
Automatic Cancellation
Automatic cancellation can also occur if:
•The tires lose traction.
•You apply the parking brake.
Park Brake Application
Automatic parking brake application andcancellation occurs if:
•You unbuckle the seatbelt and open thedoor after you stop the vehicle.
•You hold the vehicle at a stopcontinuously for more than three minutes.
Hilly Condition Usage
Note:An audible alarm sounds and thesystem shuts down if it applies brakes for anextended period of time. This allows thebrakes to cool. The system functionsnormally again after the brakes cool.
Select a lower gear when the system isactive in situations such as prolongeddownhill driving on steep grades, forexample in mountainous areas. The systemneeds additional engine braking in thesesituations to reduce the load on the vehicle’sregular brake system to prevent it fromoverheating.
Switching Adaptive Cruise Control Off
Note:You erase the set speed and gapsetting when you switch the system off.
Press OFF when the system is in standbymode, or switch the ignition off.
Detection Issues
WARNING: On rare occasions,detection issues can occur due to the roadinfrastructures, for example bridges, tunnelsand safety barriers. In these cases, thesystem may brake late or unexpectedly. Atall times, you are responsible for controllingyour vehicle, supervising the system andintervening, if required.

Cruise Control

Do not use the system in these conditions because it may not detectany vehicles ahead.Water, snow or ice on the surface of the road may interfere with theradar signals.
Wait a short time or switch to normal cruise control.You are in a desert or remote area with no other vehicles and noroadside objects.
Due to the nature of radar technology, it is possible to get a blockage warning with no actual block. This happens, for example, when drivingin sparse rural or desert environments. A false blocked condition either self clears, or clears after you restart your vehicle.
Switching to Normal Cruise Control
WARNING: Normal cruise control willnot brake when your vehicle is approachingslower vehicles. Always be aware of whichmode you have selected and apply thebrakes when necessary.
You can change from adaptive cruise controlto normal cruise control through theinformation display.
The cruise control indicator lightreplaces the adaptive cruisecontrol indicator light if you selectnormal cruise control. The gap setting doesnot display, and the system does not respondto lead vehicles. Automatic braking remainsactive to maintain set speed.
