The status is displayed.
Initialization
required
An initialization must be performed in the folj lowing situations:
'yAfter the tire inflation pressure has been
adjusted.'yAfter a tire or wheel replacement.
Performing
initialization
When initializing, the set tire inflation presj sures serve as reference values in order to dej
tect a flat tire. Initialization is started by conj
firming the tire inflation pressures.
Do not initialize the system when driving with
snow chains.
Via iDrive:
1."My Vehicle"2."Vehicle status"3."Flat Tire Monitor"4.Switch on drive-ready state and do not
drive off.5.Start the initialization with: "Perform reset"6.Drive away.
The initialization is completed while driving, which can be interrupted at any time.
The initialization automatically continues when
driving resumes.

information
When a flat tire is indicated, DSC Dynamic Staj
bility Control is switched on, if needed.
Safety
information WARNING
A damaged regular tire with low or missj
ing tire inflation pressure impacts handling,
such as steering and braking response. Run-
flat tires can maintain limited stability. There is
a risk of an accident. Do not continue driving if
the vehicle is equipped with normal tires. Folj
low the information on run-flat tires and continj
ued driving with these tires.'

To do this, check the tire inflation pressure
in all four tires, for instance using the tire
pressure gage of a flat tire kit.
If the tire inflation pressure in all four tires is correct, the Flat Tire Monitor may not
have been initialized. In this case, initialize
the system.
If identification of flat tire damage is not possible, please contact a dealerss servicecenter or another qualified service center
or repair shop.2.Repair the flat tire, e.g., with a flat tire kit or
by changing the wheel.
Run-flat
tires
Safety
information WARNING
Your vehicle handles differently with a
run-flat with no or low inflation pressure; for inj stance, your lane stability when braking is rej
duced, braking distances are longer and the
self-steering properties will change. There is a
risk of an accident.
Drive moderately and do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.'

Do not continue driving. Contact a dealerss
service center or another qualified service cenj
ter or repair shop.
System
limits
The system could be delayed or malfunction in
the following situations:'yA natural, even tire inflation pressure loss
in all four tires will not be recognized.
Therefore, check the tire inflation pressure
regularly.'ySudden serious tire damage caused by exj ternal circumstances cannot be recognized
in advance.'yWhen the system has not been initialized.'yWhen driving on a snowy or slippery road
surface.'ySporty driving style: spinning traction
wheels, high lateral acceleration (drifting).'yWhen driving with snow chains.
Changing
wheels/tires
General
information
When using run-flat tires or a flat tire kit, a
wheel does not always need to be changed imj mediately when there is a loss of tire inflation
pressure due to a flat tire.
If needed, the tools for changing wheels are
available as accessories from a dealerss service
center or another qualified service center or rej pair shop.
Safety
information DANGER
The vehicle jack is only provided for
short-term lifting of the vehicle for wheel
changes. Even if all safety measures are obj
served, there is a risk of the raised vehicle fallj
ing, if the vehicle jack tilts over. There is a risk
of injuries or danger to life. If the vehicle is
raised, do not lie under the vehicle and do not
start the engine.'

Jacking
points
for
the
vehicle
jack
The jacking points for the vehicle jack are lojcated at the indicated positions.
Jacking
up
the
vehicle WARNING
Hands and fingers can be jammed when
using the vehicle jack. There is a risk of injury. Comply with the described hand position and
do not change this position while using the vej
hicle jack.'

5.Make sure that the vehicle jack foot stands
vertically and at a right angle beneath the jacking point.6.Make sure that the vehicle jack foot stands

jack.7.Crank the vehicle up, until the vehicle jack is with the entire surface on the groundand the relevant wheel is maximum 1.2 injches/3 cm above ground.
Mounting
a
wheel
Mount one emergency wheel only, as required.
1.Unscrew the lug bolts.2.Remove the wheel.3.Put the new wheel or emergency wheel on and screw in at least two lug bolts in a
crosswise pattern until hand-tight.
If non-original light-alloy wheels of the vej hicle manufacturer are mounted, the acj
companying lug bolts may have to be used
as well.4.Hand-tighten the remaining lug bolts and tighten all lug bolts well in a crosswise patj
tern.5.Turn the vehicle jack crank counterclockj
wise to retract the vehicle jack and lower
the vehicle.6.Remove the vehicle jack and stow it sej
curely.
After
the
wheel
change
1.Tighten the lug bolts crosswise. The tightj ening torque is 101 lb ft/140 Nm.2.Stow the nonworking wheel in the cargo
area, if necessary.
The nonworking wheel cannot be stored under the cargo floor panel because of its
size.3.Check tire inflation pressure at the next opj
portunity and correct as needed.4.Reinitialize the run-flat tires.
Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor TPM.5.Check to make sure the lug bolts are tight
with a calibrated torque wrench.6.Have the damaged tire replaced at the
nearest dealerss service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop.
Emergency
wheel
Concept
In the event of a flat tire, the emergency wheel
can be used in place of the wheel with the dej
fective tire. The emergency wheel is only inj tended for temporary use until the defective
tire/wheel has been replaced.
General
information
Mount one emergency wheel only.
Also check the tire inflation pressure of the
emergency wheel in the cargo area regularly,
and correct it as needed.
