This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Interior
air
qualityThe air quality inside the vehicle is improvedby an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter,and a climate-control system for regulatingtemperature, air flow, and recirculated-airmode.
In addition there are other functions which dej
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, ionization,
fragrancing, automatic climate control with auj
tomatic recirculated-air control AUC, and parked-car ventilation.

Switching
offPress and hold the left button until the
system switches off.
Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed,
by using the maximum cooling or heating caj
pacity, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temperature settings.
Otherwise, the automatic clij
mate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Air
conditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dehumidified and, depending on the temperaj
ture setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can only be cooled with the
drive-ready state switched on.
Switching
on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air condij
tioning switched on.
Air conditioning is switched on with the engine
running.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and side windows may fog up briefly when drive- ready state is switched on.
The air conditioning is switched on automatij cally with the AUTO program.When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water develops and collects unj
derneath the vehicle.
AUTO
program
Concept
Air flow, air distribution and temperature are
controlled automatically.
Switching
on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the AUTO
program switched on.
Depending on the selected temperature and
outside influences, the air is directed to the windshield, side windows, upper body, andinto the floor area.
The air conditioning, refer to page 210, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
The AUTO program is switched off automatij cally, when manual air distribution is set.
Recirculated-air
mode
Concept
You may react to unpleasant odors or polluj
tants in the immediate environment by tempoj rarily suspending the supply of outside air. Thesystem then recirculates the air flow within thevehicle.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:'yLED off: outside air flows in continuously.'yLED on: the supply of outside air is permaj nently shut off.
Air conditioning is automatically switched

To prevent window fogging, recirculated-air
mode switches off automatically after a certain amount of time, depending on the environj
mental conditions.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the car's interior deteriorates and the
fogging of the windows increases.
If there is window condensation, switch off rej
circulated-air mode or defog the windows, rej
fer to page 211.
Controlling
the

flow
manually
Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted
manually.
Operation Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase air flow.
The intensity is indicated by LEDs. The highj
est level is active when seven LEDs are lit.
The air flow of the automatic climate control
may be reduced automatically to save battery
power.

The air distribution for climate control can be
adjusted manually.
Operation Turn the wheel to select the dej

Defrosting
windows
and
removing
condensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from the windshield and the front side winj
dows.
Settings
Make the following settings to defrost the winj
dows and remove condensation:
'yDirect the air distribution onto the winj
dows.'yIncreasing the air flow.'yIncrease the temperature.'ySwitch on the air conditioning if needed.
Rear
window
defroster
Press button. The LED lights up.The function is available with the enj
gine running.
The rear window defroster switches off autoj matically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoal
filter
The microfilter removes dust and pollen from
the incoming air.
The activated-charcoal filter removes gaseous pollutants from the outside air that enters the
vehicle.
Have this combined filter changed during vehij
cle maintenance, refer to page 305.

Concept
The system is set to the lowest temperature,
optimum air flow and recirculated-air mode with the drive-ready state switched on.

information The function is available with external temperj
atures above approx. 32

If the system is activated, a sensor detects polj lutants in the outside air and controls the shut-
off automatically.
If the system is deactivated, outside air continj
uously flows into the car's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the car's interior deteriorates and the
fogging of the windows increases.

SYNC
program
Concept
The following settings of the driver's side can be transferred to the front-passenger side and
the rear:
'yTemperature.'yAir distribution.
Switching
on/off
Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the SYNC
program switched on.
The program is switched off automatically if
the settings on the front passenger side or in the rear are changed.
Defrosting
windows
and
removingcondensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from the windshield and the front side winj
dows.
Switching
on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the sysj
tem switched on.
Point the side vents towards the side windows,
as needed. The air flow can be adjusted manj
ually with the system switched on.
If there is window condensation, press
the button or switch on the air condij
tioning to utilize the condensation sensor. Make sure that air can flow to the windshield.
If there is window condensation, press the butj
ton on the driver's side or switch on air condij
tioning to utilize the condensation sensor. Make sure that air can flow to the windshield.
Rear
window
defroster Press button. The LED lights up.The function is available with the enj
gine running.
The rear window defroster switches off autoj matically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoal
filter
The microfilter removes dust and pollen from
the incoming air.
The activated-charcoal filter removes gaseous pollutants from the outside air that enters the
vehicle.
Have this combined filter changed during vehij
cle maintenance, refer to page 305.

Direct
ventilationThe air flow is directed towards the passenj
gers. The air flow heats or cools noticeably, depending on the adjusted temperature.
Indirect
ventilationThe air flow is not directed towards the pasj
sengers. The car's interior is warmed or cooled
indirectly, depending on the set temperature.
Front
ventilation
Overview'yLever for changing the air flow direction,
arrow 1.'yThumbwheel for variable opening and
closing of the vents, arrow 2.
Setting
the
temperature
The temperature of the ventilation in the upper
body area can be varied.
