Mounting a wheel
Mount one emergency wheel only, as required.1.Unscrew the lug bolts.2.Remove the wheel.3.Put the new wheel or emergency wheel on and screw in at least two lug bolts in a crossjwise pattern until hand-tight.
If non-original light-alloy wheels of the vehicle
manufacturer are mounted, the accompanyj
ing lug bolts may have to be used as well.4.Hand-tighten the remaining lug bolts and
tighten all lug bolts well in a crosswise patj tern.5.Turn the vehicle jack crank counterclockwise
to retract the vehicle jack and lower the vehij
cle.6.Remove the vehicle jack and stow it securely.
After the wheel change
1.Tighten the lug bolts crosswise. The tightenj
ing torque is 101 lb ft/140 Nm.2.Stow the nonworking wheel in the cargo area,
if necessary.
The nonworking wheel cannot be stored unj
der the cargo floor panel because of its size.3.Check tire inflation pressure at the next opj
portunity and correct as needed.4.Reinitialize the run-flat tires.
Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor TPM.5.Check to make sure the lug bolts are tight
with a calibrated torque wrench.6.Have the damaged tire replaced at the nearj est dealerss service center or another qualij

Hood
Safety information
WARNING
Improperly executed work under the hood can damage components and lead to a safety risk.
There is a risk of accidents or risk of damage to
property. The manufacturer of your vehicle recj
ommends that work under the hood be perj formed only by an authorized BMW i dealer's
service center or another qualified service cenj
ter or repair shop.
NOTE
Folded-away wipers can be jammed when the
hood is opened. There is a risk of damage to property. Make sure that the wipers with thewiper blades mounted are folded down onto
the windshield before opening the hood.
Opening hood
Unlock hood
1. Press button on the remote control
or in the driver's floor area, refer to page 78.
Opening hood

When the hood is opened, a Check Control mesj
sage is displayed.
Closing the hood
From approx. 16 inches/40 cm height allow to falland press again to lock the hook completely.
Make sure you hear the hood engage.
WARNING
An incorrectly locked hood can open while drivj
ing and restrict visibility. There is a risk of an acj
cident. Stop immediately and correctly close
the hood.
WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when opening and closing the hood. There is a risk of injury. Make
sure that the area of movement of hood is clear
during opening and closing.

General information
Engine oil consumption depends on the frej
quency of Range Extender use. Therefore, reguj
larly check the engine oil level after refueling.
Safety information
NOTE
An engine oil level that is too low causes enj
gine damage. There is a risk of damage to
property. Immediately add engine oil.
NOTE
Too much engine oil can damage the engine or the catalytic converter. There is a risk of damj
age to property. Do not add too much engine
oil. When too much engine oil is added, have
the engine oil level corrected by a dealerss servj ice center or another qualified service center or
repair shop.
Checking the oil level
General information
Check the engine oil level with Range Extender
warmed up to operating temperature.
After switching off the Range Extender, wait sevj eral minutes before checking the oil level so thatthe engine oil can collect in the oil pan.
Checking
1.Park the vehicle in horizontal position in a
safe place.2.Switch the engine off.3.Remove the cargo floor panel.4.Turn the lid counterclockwise and remove.Seite 244MOBILITYEngine oil244

5.After approx. 5, minutes, remove the dip stickand wipe with a lint-free cloth, paper towel or
similar.6.Carefully insert the dipstick up to the stop in
the measuring tube, and pull it back out.
The engine oil level must be between the two marks of the dipstick.
Electronic oil measurement
General information
The electronic oil measurement has two measurj
ing principles:
'xMonitoring.'xDetailed measurement.
When making frequent short-distance trips or
using a dynamic driving style, for instance when
taking curves aggressively, regularly perform a
detailed measurement.
Monitoring
Concept The engine oil level is monitored electronically
while driving and can be shown on the Control
Display.
If the engine oil level is outside its permissible operating range, a Check Control message is
displayed.
A red indicator light indicates that the enj
gine oil pressure is too low.
Functional requirements
A current measured value is available after apjprox. 30 minutes of normal driving.

The engine oil level is displayed.
System limits
When making frequent short-distance trips or
using a dynamic driving style, it may not be posj sible to calculate a measured value. In this case,
the measured value for the last, sufficiently long
trip is displayed.
Detailed measurement Concept
The engine oil level is checked when the vehicle
is stationary and displayed via a scale.
If the engine oil level is outside its permissibleoperating range, a Check Control message is
displayed.
General information During the measurement, the idle speed is injcreased somewhat.
Functional requirements

General information
Coolant consists of water and additives.
The vehicle's cooling circuits are filled with differj
ent types of coolant. Do not mix the different
types of coolant.
Not all commercially available additives are suitaj
ble for the vehicle. Information about suitable adj ditives is available from a dealerss service center
or another qualified service center or repair shop.
Safety information
WARNING
With the engine hot and the cooling system
open, coolant can escape and lead to scalding.
There is a risk of injury. Only open the cooling
system with the engine cooled down.
WARNING
Additives are harmful and incorrect additives can damage the engine. There is a risk of injury
and risk of damage to property. Do not allow
additives to come into contact with skin, eyes
or articles of clothing. Use suitable additives
only.
Coolant reservoir
The vehicle has two coolant reservoirs that are
located under the hood.
To ensure the operational reliability of the vehij cle, always check the coolant level of both cooljant reservoirs.

2.Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightly
counterclockwise to allow any excess presj
sure to dissipate, then open it.3.Check the coolant level.
The coolant level is correct if it lies between the minimum and maximum marks in the resj
ervoir.
Adding
1.Slowly add coolant up to the specified level; do not overfill.2.Close the cap.3.Have cause of the coolant loss eliminated bya dealerss service center or another qualified
service center or repair shop as quickly as
possible.
Drive coolant reservoir
Checking
1.Allow the drive to cool down.2.Check the coolant level.
The marks are on the side of the coolant resj ervoir. The coolant level is correct if it lies bej
tween the minimum and maximum marks.Adding1.Turn the lid of the coolant reservoir slightly
