Introduction
Applies to: vehicles with telephone
To make phone coils in your vehicle using the
/11/111, connect your cell phone to the /11/111 via
Bluetooth.
Hand sfree
After you have connected your ce ll phone to the
MMI via B luetooth, you can use the handsfree
system and operate telephone functions through
your
MMI. You can make calls using the antenna
on your cell phone.
A WARNING
-Medical experts warn that cell phones can
interfere w ith the funct ion of pacemakers .
Always mainta in a m inimum d istance of
about 8 inches (20 cm) between the ce ll
phone antenna and the pacemaker.
-Do not carry the cell phone in a pocket di ­
rectly over the pacemaker when the phone
is switched on.
-Sw itch the cell phone off immediately if
you suspect it may be interfering w ith the
pacemaker.
-Do not use the vo ice recognit ion system*
<=) page 167 in emergencies because your
vo ice may change in stressful situations. It
may take longer to dial the number or the
system may not be able to dia l it at all. Dial
the emergency n umbe r manua lly.
-Switch your cell phone off in areas where
there is a ris k of an exp losion . These loca­
tions are not always clearly mar ked. This
may include gas stations, fuel and chemical
storage facilities or transport vehicles, o r lo ­
cations where fue l vapors (such as propane
or gaso line vapor in vehicles or bui ldings),
chemicals or large quantities of dust parti ­
cles (such as flour, sawdust or metal) may
be present in the air . This also applies to all
other locations where you would normally
turn your vehicle engine off .

- If you must check or perform work on the
engine while it is running:
- Set the parking brake first and then select

"P" selector lever position .

If the engine oil level is too low
If you need to add engine oil, use an oil that is
listed on the sticker.

Checking the engine oil level
The engine oil level con be checked in the Info­
tainment system
Observe the safety precautions c::> & in Working
in the engine comportment on page 314.
~ Park your vehicle on a level surface.
~ S hu t the engine off when it is warm.
~ Switch only the ignition back on.
~ Wait approx imately two minutes.
~ Select in the Infotainment system: the I MENU I
button > Vehicle > left control button > Service

> Oil level.
~ Read the oi l level in the display. Add engine oil
if the bar in the oil leve l indicator is just before
"min"

The engine oi l level must not be under the
"min" marking, as th is w ill increase the risk of
engine damage.
(D Tips
The oil leve l indicator in the display is only an
informational display.
If the oil leve l is too
l ow, a min imum oil warning appears in the in­
strument cluster. Add oil and close the hood.
The current oil level is displayed in the Info­
tainment system the next time the ignition is
switched on .
(D Tips
The engine oil consumption may be up to
0.5 quart/600 miles (0.5 liter/1,000 km), de­
pending on driv ing sty le and operat ing cond i­
tions. Consumption may be higher dur ing the
first 3,000 miles (5,000 km). Because of this,
the engine o il level must be checked regular­
l y . It is best to check each time you refuel
your vehicle and before long drives.
- In order to provide effective lubrication and
cooling of internal engine components, a ll
internal combustion engines consume acer ­
tain amount of oil. Oil consumption varies
from engine to engine and may change sig­
nifica ntly over the life of the engine. Typ i­
cally, eng ines with a specified break-in peri­
od consume more oil during the break-in pe­
r iod than they consume after oil cons ump­
t ion has stabilized.
- Under normal conditions, the rate of oil
consumption depends on the quality and
viscos ity of the oil, the RPM (revo lutions per
min ute) at which the engine is operated, the
ambient temperature and road conditions.
Further factors are the amount of oil dilu­
tion from water condensation or fue l resi­
due and the oxidation level of the oil. As any
eng ine is subject to wear as m ileage builds
up, the oil consumption may increase over
time until replacement of worn components
may become necessary.

-With all these variables coming into play,
no standard rate of o il consumption can be
established or specified. There is no alterna­
tive to checking the oil level regularly and
frequently.
- If you have the impression your engine con­
sumes excessive amounts of oil, we recom­
mend that you consult an authorized Audi
dealer to have the cause of your concern properly diagnosed . Keep in mind that the
accurate measurement of oil consumption
requires great care and may take some
time. An authorized Audi dealer has instruc­
tions about how to measure oil consump­
tion accurately.

A WARNING
- When adding oil, do not let oil drip onto hot
engine components . This increases the risk
of afire.
- You must seal the cap on the oil filler open­
ing correctly so that oil does not leak out
onto the hot engine and exhaust system
when the engine is running, because this is
a fire hazard.
-Always clean skin thoroughly if it comes into
contact with engine oil.
- Engine oil is poisonous and must be kept
out of reach of children.
- Store the engine oil securely in the original
container.
(D Note
- If the message II Please reduce oil level
appears, there is too much oil in the engine
and there is a risk of catalytic converter and
engine damage. Do not start the engine.
Contact an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility to have excess
engine oil extracted if necessary.
- Your Limited New Vehicle Warranty does
not cover damage or malfunctions due to
failure to follow recommended mainte­
nance and use requirements as set forth in
the Audi Owner's Manual and Warranty &
Maintenance booklet.
- Use only a high quality engine oil that ex­
pressly complies with the Audi oil quality
standard specified for your vehicle's engine. Using any other oil can cause serious engine
damage .
- Do not mix any additional lubricants into
the engine oil. Damage caused by such addi­
tives is not covered by the warranty .

-Oil should never enter the sewer system or
come into contact with the ground .

Changing the engine oil
We recommend that have your oil changed by an
authorized Audi dealer or a qualified service sta­
tion .
Before you check anyt hing in the eng ine compart ­
ment,

in Working in the engine comportment on
page 314.
The engine oil must be changed accord ing to the
intervals specified in your Warranty
& Mainte­
nance booklet . This is very important because the
lubricat ing propert ies of oil diminish gradually
during normal vehicle use.
Under some circumstances the engine oi l should
be changed more frequently. Change oil more of­
ten if you drive most ly short distances, operate
the vehicle in dusty areas or under predominant ly
stop-and-go traffic condit ions, or have your vehi­
cle where temperatures remain below freezing
for extended periods.
Detergent additives in the oil will make fresh oil
look dark after the engine has been running for a
short time. Th is is normal and is not a reason to
change the oil more often than recommended.
Because of the problem of proper disposal, along
with the special tools and necessary expertise re­
qu ired, we strongly recommend that you have
your oil c hanged by an authorized
A udi de aler or
a qualified service station .
If you choos e to change your o il y our self , please
note the following important information:

o il, let the eng ine cool down to the touch.

he lp prevent hot oil from running down your
arm.
-Drain the oil into a container designed for
this purpose, one la rge enough to hold at
least the tota l amount of oil in your engine.
-Engine oil is poisonous. Keep it well out of
the reach of children.
-Continuous contact with used engine o il is
harmful to your skin. Always protect your
skin by washing oil off thoroughly with soap
a nd water.
@ Note
Never mix oil additives with yo ur engine oil.
These additives can damage your engine and
adverse ly affect your Audi limited New Vehi­
cle Warranty.

-Before chang ing your oi l, first ma ke sure
you know where you can properly d ispose of
the used oil.
-Always dispose of used engine o il properly.
Do not dump it on garden so il, wooded
areas, into open streams o r down sewage
dra ins.
-Recycle used eng ine o il by tak ing it to a used
eng ine oi l collec tion fac ility in yo ur area, or
contact a se rvice station.
Cooling system
Coolant
The eng ine cooling system is fi lled w ith a mixture
of purified water and coolant additive at the fac­
tory. This coolant must not be not changed.

mend occasionally checking the coolant leve l
manual ly.
If you must add coo lant, use a mixture of water
and coolant additive. Mixing the coolant add itive
with dist illed water is recommended.

and being pushed out of the cooling system.

-The cooling system is under pressure. Do
not open the coolant expansion tank cap
when the eng ine is hot. This inc reases the

dangerous to you r healt h. For this reason,
keep t he coolant i n the o rigi nal container
and away from children. There is a risk of
poiso ning.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember t hat the radiator fan can sw itch
o n even if the ign ition is swi tched off, which
increases the risk of i njury.
@ Note
Do not add coo lant if the expansion tank is
empty. There may be a ir in the coo ling sys­
t em, wh ich increases t he risk of engi ne dam­
age . If this is the case, do not continue driv­
ing . See an authorized Aud i dea le r or a uthor ­
ize d Aud i Service Fac ility for assistance .

- If the b rake fl uid is old, b ubbles may form
in the brake system dur ing heavy bra king.
This wo uld impair braking performance and
driving safety, which increases the r isk of an
accident.
- To ensure the brake system functions cor­ rectly, only use brake f luids tha t comply
wit h VW standard S0 l 14 o r
F M VSS -116 DOT 4 .

-Never add radiator anti-freeze or other addi­
tives to the washer fluid.
-Do not use a glass cleaner that contains
paint solvents, because this could damage
the paint .
Service interval display
The service interval display detects when your ve­
hicle is due for service.
Checking service intervals
You can check the remaining distance or time un­
til the next oil c hange or next inspection in the
Infotainment system .

Resetting the indicator
An author ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility will reset the service interval dis­
p la y after performing serv ice.
If you have changed the oil yourself, you must re­
set the oil c hange interva l.

If an oil change or inspection is due, you can ac­
cess it in the Infotainment system . The display
works in two stages:
-Service reminder: after a certain distance is
driven, a message appears in the instrument
cluster display every time the ign ition is switch­
ed on. The remaining distance and t ime is dis­
played br iefly.
-Service due : if your vehicle has reached a serv­
ice interval, a message appears briefly after
switching the ignition on.

-Only reset the oil change indicator if the oil
was c hanged.
-Following the service inter vals is critical to
maintain ing the service life and value of

your vehicle, especially the engine . Even if
the mileage on the ve hicle is low, do not ex ­
ceed t he time for the next service .
