The. indicator light stays on unt il the driver's
and front passenger's safety belts a re fastened.
Above a certain speed, there will also be a warn ­
ing tone.

0 Generator/vehicle battery
If the . or(•) indicator light turns on, there is a
malfunction in the generator or the vehicle elec­
tr ica l system .
• Electrical system: malfunction! Safely stop
vehicle
Do not continue driving and switch the engine
off. See an authorized Audi dea le r or aut horized
Audi Service Facility for assistance .
(•) Electrical system: malfunction! Restart not
possible. Please contact Service
The vehicle battery was disconnected from the
veh icle elect rical system and will no longer
charge . Drive to an authorized Aud i dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately.
Do not stop the engine, or you will not be able to
start it aga in . If you can no longer start the en­
g in e, see an authorized Aud i dealer or autho rized
Aud i Service Facility for assistanc e.
(•) F.lectrical system: malfunction! Please con­
tact Service
Drive to an authorized Aud i dea ler or authorized
Aud i Serv ice Facility immediately . Because the ve­
h icle battery is d ischarg ing, turn off all unneces­
sary electr ical equipment such as the radio. See
an authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility if the battery charge level is too
low.
(•) Electrical system: low battery charge. Bat­
tery will be charged while driving
The start ing ability may be impaired.

If this message turns off after a little whi le, the
vehicle battery charged enoug h while driving.
If the message does not turn off and stay off
whe n driving, have an authorized Aud i dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility repair the mal­
function .

• Turn off engine. Oil pressure too low
Stop the engine and do not continue driving.
Check the engine oi l level

- If the eng ine oil level is too low, add engi ne oil
¢ page 317 . Only continue driving once the in­
dicator light turns off .
- I f the engine oil level is correct and the indica­
tor light still turns on, turn the engine off and
do not continue driving. See an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility for as­
sistance.
(D Tips
T he oil pressure warn ing is not an oil leve l in ­
dicator. Always check the oil leve l regularly.

from the coolant boili ng through overheating
and being pushed out of the cooling system.
.&_ WARNING
-The cooling system is under pressure. Do
not open the coolant expansion tank cap
when the eng ine is hot. This inc reases the
risk of burns.
- The coo lant add itive and the coolant can be
dangerous to you r healt h. For this reason,
keep t he coolant i n the o rigi nal container
and away from children. There is a risk of
poiso ning.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember t hat the radiator fan can sw itch
o n even if the ign ition is swi tched off, which
increases the risk of i njury.

Do not add coo lant if the expansion tank is
empty. There may be a ir in the coo ling sys­
t em, wh ich increases t he risk of engi ne dam­
age . If this is the case, do not continue driv­

marking, it can impair the brak ing effect
and d riving safety, which increase the risk of
an accident. Do not continue dr iving. See an
author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi

- If the b rake fl uid is old, b ubbles may form
in the brake system dur ing heavy bra king.
This wo uld impair braking performance and
driving safety, which increases the r isk of an
accident.
- To ensure the brake system functions cor­ rectly, only use brake f luids tha t comply
wit h VW standard S0 l 14 o r
F M VSS -116 DOT 4 .

terminology
Accessory weight
means the combined weight (in
excess of those standard items
which may be replaced) of auto­ matic transmission, power steer­
ing , power brakes , power win­
dows , power seats, radio, and
heater, to the extent that these
items are available as factory-in­
stalled equipment (whether in­
stalled or not).
Aspect ratio
means the ratio of the height to
the width of the tire in percent. Numbers of 55 or lower indicate a
low sidewall for improved steer­
ing response and better overall
handling on dry pavement .
Bead
means the part of the tire that is
made of steel wires, wrapped or
reinforced by ply cords and that is
shaped to fit the rim.
Bead separation
means a breakdown of the bond
between components in the bead.

Cord
means the strands forming the
plies in the tire.
Cold tire inflation pressure
means the t ire pressure recom­
mended by the vehicle manufac­
turer for a tire of a designated
size that has not been driven for
more than a couple of miles (kilo ­
meters) at low speeds in the
three hour period before the tire pressure is measured or adjusted.
Curb weight
means the weight of a motor ve­
hicle w ith standard equipment in­
cluding the maximum capacity of
fuel, oil, and coolant, ai r condi­
tioning and additional weight of
optional equipment.
E x tra load ti re
means a tire designed to operate
at higher loads and at higher in­
flation pressures than the corre­
sponding standard tire. Extra load
tires may be identified as "X L",
