Pilot Assist *
Pilot Assist helps the driver to drive the car between the lane's side markings using steeringassistance as well as to maintain an even speed, combined with a preselected time interval to thevehicle ahead.
The Pilot Assist function gives more comfortable driving and a more relaxed driving experienceduring, for example, long journeys on motorwaysin even traffic flows.
The camera and radar unit measures the distance to the vehicle ahead and detects side markings 9
.
Camera and radar unit
Distance readers
Readers, side markings The driver selects the desired speed and a time interval to the vehicle ahead. Pilot Assist scansthe distance to the vehicle ahead and the lane'sside markings on the road surface using thecamera and radar unit. The preset time interval ismaintained with automatic speed adjustmentwhilst the steering assistance helps to positionthe car in the lane. Pilot Assist steering assistance takes into account the speed of the preceding car and thelane markings. The driver can at any time ignorethe Pilot Assist steering recommendation andsteer in another direction, e.g. to change lane oravoid an obstruction on the road. If Pilot Assist cannot interpret the lane unambig- uously, e.g. if the camera and radar unit does notsee the lane's side markings, Pilot Assist tempo-rarily deactivates steering assistance, butresumes it if the lane can be interpreted again -although the speed and distance control func-tions remain active.
NOTE
Pilot Assist steering assistance is deactivated and is resumed without prior warning.
The current status of steering assistance is indicated by thecolour of the steering wheel'ssymbol: • GREEN steering wheel indi- cates active steering assis-
tance • GREY steering wheel (as in illustration) indi- cates deactivated steering assistance.

Setting the time interval for Pilot Assist *
Pilot Assist can be set with different time inter- vals.
Different time intervals to the vehicle in front can be selectedand shown in the driver displayas 1-5 horizontal lines - themore lines the longer the timeinterval. One line representsabout 1 second to the vehicle
in front, 5 lines represents about 3 seconds.
NOTE
When the symbol in the driver display shows a car and a steering wheel, Pilot Assist fol-lows a vehicle in front at a preset time gap. When only one steering wheel is shown, there is no vehicle within a reasonable distanceahead.
Control for time interval.
Decrease time interval
Increase time interval
Distance indicator
–Press the steering wheel button (1) or (2) to increase or decrease the time interval.
> The distance indicator (3) shows the cur- rent time interval.
In order to follow the vehicle ahead in a smooth and comfortable way, Pilot Assist allows the timeinterval to vary noticeably in certain conditions. For example, at low speed, when the distancesbecome short, Pilot Assist increases the timeinterval slightly. Note that a short time interval only allows the driver a short time to react and take action if anyunforeseen problem should arise.
NOTE
Only use the time intervals permitted by local traffic regulations. If Pilot Assist does not appear to react when activated, this may be because the time dis-tance to the vehicle in front is preventing anincrease in speed. The higher the speed the longer the calcula- ted distance in metres for a given time inter-val.

CauseAction
The windscreen surface in front of the camera and radar unit is dirty or covered with ice or snow. Clean dirt, ice and snow from the windscreen surface in front of the camera andradar unit.
Thick fog and heavy rain or snow block the radar signals or the cameraview. No action. Sometimes the unit does not work during heavy rain or snowfall.
Water or snow from the road surface swirls up and blocks the radarsignals or camera view. No action. Sometimes the unit does not work on a very wet or snow-covered roadsurface.
Dirt has appeared between the inside of the windscreen and the cam-era and radar unit. Visit a workshop to have the windscreen inside the unit's cover cleaned - anauthorised Volvo workshop is recommended.
Strong oncoming light No action. The camera unit is reset automatically in more favourable light condi-tions.
NOTE
Keep the windscreen clean in front of the camera and radar unit.
High temperatureAt very high temperatures the camera and radar unit can temporarily be switched off forabout 15 minutes after the engine is started soas to protect the unit's electronics. The cameraand radar unit restarts automatically when thetemperature has fallen sufficiently.
Damaged windscreen
IMPORTANT
If a crack, scratch or stone chip in the wind- screen in front of one of the camera andradar unit “windows” covers an area ofapprox. 0.5 x 3.0 mm or larger, a workshopmust be contacted to have the windscreenreplaced. An authorised Volvo workshop isrecommended. If not rectified it can lead to reduced perform- ance for the driver support systems that usethe camera and radar unit.
This may mean that functions are reduced, deactivated completely or give incorrect func-tion response. To avoid the risk of failed, deficient or reduced operation of driver support systemsthat use the radar unit, the following alsoapplies:
• Volvo recommends
against repairing
cracks, scratches or stone chips in thearea in front of the camera and radar unit.Instead, the whole windscreen should bereplaced.
• Before replacing a windscreen, contactan authorised Volvo workshop to verify

Drive mode ECO
Driving mode ECO mode optimises the car's
driving characteristics for more fuel efficient and environmentally-conscious driving.
Use this drive mode to save fuel and the environ- ment. The following properties are adapted for Eco driv- ing:
• Gearbox gearshift points 8
.
• Engine management and response from theaccelerator pedal.
• The Eco Coast 9
freewheel function is acti-
vated and engine braking is deactivatedwhen the accelerator pedal is released atspeeds between 65 and 140 km/h(40 and 87 mph).
• Some of the climate control system's set-tings work at reduced power or are deacti-vated.
• The driver display shows information in anECO gauge which facilitates environmentally-conscious and fuel-efficient driving.
Selecting ECO modeThe Eco mode is deactivated when the engine isswitched off, and it must therefore be activatedafter each time the engine is started. The driver display shows ECO when the function is acti-vated.

Audio settings
The audio system is preset for optimal sound reproduction, but can be adapted according toneeds.
The volume is normally adjusted with the volume control below the centre display or with the right-hand steering wheel keypad.
Setting for optimal sound reproductionThe audio system is pre-calibrated for optimumsound reproduction by means of digital signalprocessing. This calibration takes into accountloudspeakers, amplifiers, passenger compartmentacoustics, listener position, etc., for each combi-nation of car model and audio system. There isalso a dynamic calibration that takes into accountthe setting of the volume control and vehiclespeed. Audio settings are described in the correspond- ing section in the owner information. To accessthe settings, open the top view and tap on
SettingsSound.
Active noise reduction *Certain cars are equipped with an active noise reduction function that suppresses engine noisein the passenger compartment via the audio sys-tem. Microphones in the car's roof detect disrup-tive noise and the audio system outputs anti-noise in order to dampen the noise.
