Cruise control is an automatic speed control system. It lets you keep the same driving speed. Cruise control can be activated atabout 25 mph (40 km/h)
or more. It is espe-
cially useful for freeway driving. Cruise con- trol does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
To activate and deactivate the cruise control function. To reduce the set speed and to set the speed of constant-speed driving. To increase the set speed and to resume to the previous set speed. To terminate constant-speed driving.
CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer ora repair facility of
your choice as soon as
possible. It may become harder to turn the steering wheel.
Cruise control
(if so equipped)
CAUTION For safety reasons, the cruise control system should be set to the “OFF” position by press- ing the “ON OFF” switch (A) when you are not using the cruise control system. Do not use cruise control when driving con- ditions will not allow you to stay at the same speed, such as in heavy traffic or on roadsthat are winding, icy, snowy, wet, slippery or on a steep downhill slope. On vehicles with manual transaxle, do not move the gearshift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position while driving at a set speed withoutdepressing the clutch pedal. The engine will run too fast and might be damaged. NOTE
 Cruise control may not be able to keep your speed on uphills or downhills.  Your speed may drop on a steep uphill. You may have to use the accelerator pedal if you want to stay at your set speed.  Your speed may increase to more than the set speed on a steep downhill. You must use the brake to control your speed.

1. With the ignition switch in the “ON” posi- tion, press the “ON OFF” switch (A) to turn on the cruise control. The “CRUISE” indicator light in the meter cluster willcome on.
2. Accelerate or decelerate to your desired speed, then press and release the “COAST SET” switch (B) when the “CRUISE” indicator light is illuminated. The vehiclewill then maintain the desired speed.

There are 2 ways to increase the set speed. If you press and hold down the “ACC RES” switch (C), the speed will gradually increase. When you reach your desired speed, releasethe switch.  When operating the cruise control switches, correctly press each cruise control switch. The cruise control may be turned off auto- matically if two or more of the cruise control switches are pressed at the same time.
To activate

NOTE
 If the cruise control is on when the ignition switch is turned to “LOCK” or “ACC” posi- tion, cruise control will turn on automatically and the “CRUISE” control indicator will illuminate the next time you start the engine.  If the battery voltage is insufficient, the memory data for the cruise control will beerased. As a result, the “CRUISE” control indicator may not come on when you restart the engine. If this happens, press the “ONOFF” switch once again to activate the cruise control.
NOTE
 The speed when you released the “COAST SET” switch will be set as the cruising speed.

the “ACC RES” switch (C), the speed will increase by approximately 1 mph (1.6 km/h). Use the accelerator pedal to reach your desired speed. Press the “COAST SET” switch (B) and release the switch momen- tarily to set a new desired cruising speed.

There are 2 ways to reduce the set speed.
Press and hold the “COAST SET” switch (B), the speed will slow down (coast) gradually. When you reach your desired speed, releasethe “COAST SET” switch. Your cruising speed is now set. To decrease the speed in small amounts, press the “COAST SET” switch (B) for less than 1 second and release it. Every time you pressthe “COAST SET” switch (B), the speed will decrease by approximately 1 mph (1.6 km/h).
Press the brake pedal (which disengages the cruise control) and when the desired speed is reached, press the “COAST SET” switch (B)and release the switch momentarily to set a new desired cruise speed.

Apply the brakes to decrease the speed. To return to the previously set speed, press the“ACC RES” switch (C). Refer to “To resume the set speed” on page 5-84.

The cruise control can be turned off as fol- lows:  Press the “ON OFF” switch (A). (Cruise control will be turned off.)  Press the “CANCEL” switch (D).  Depress the brake pedal or lightly tap it.
The cruise control will be turned off automat- ically in the following conditions:  When you depress the clutch pedal (on vehicles with manual transaxle).  Your speed slows to about 10 mph (15 km/h) or more below the set speed because of an uphill, etc.  Your speed slows to about 25 mph (40 km/h) or less.
 When the active stability control (ASC) starts operating (if so equipped). Refer to “Active stability control (ASC)” on page 5-76.
Also, the set speed driving may be deacti- vated as follow:  When the engine speed rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone (the red-colored part of the tachometer dial).

WA R N I N G On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT), although the cruisecontrol will be disengaged when shifting to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position, never move the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL)position while driving. You would have no engine braking and this could cause a serious accident.CAUTION When the set speed driving is deactivated automatically in any situation other than those listed above, there may be a system malfunction.Press the “ON OFF” switch to turn off the cruise control and have your vehicle inspected by an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.

 The tire pressure monitoring system is not a substitute for regularly checking tire infla- tion pressures. Be sure to check the tire inflation pressures as described in “Tires” on page 9-14.  The tire inflation pressure sensor (B) is installed in the illustrated location.Replace grommet and washer (C) with a new one when the tire is replaced. system warning light normally illuminates and goes off a few seconds later. If one or more of the vehicle tires (except for the spare tire) is significantly under-inflated, the warning light will remain illuminatedwhile the ignition switch is in the “ON” posi- tion. Refer to “If the warning light/display illumi-nates while driving” on page 5-86 and take the necessary measures.
Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold andinflated to the inflation pressure recom- mended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label.(If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you shoulddetermine the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.) As an added safety feature, your vehicle hasbeen equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when one or more of yourtires is significantly under-inflated.
NOTE
 In addition, the warning display is displayed on the information screen in the multi-infor- mation display. Type 1 Type 2
CAUTION If the tire pressure monitoring system warn- ing light does not illuminate when the igni- tion switch is turned to the “ON” position, it means that the tire pressure monitoring sys- tem is not working properly. Have the sys-tem inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. In such situations,
a malfunctioning of the
system may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pressure. Avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and high-speed driving. If a malfunction is detected in the tire pres- sure monitoring system, the tire pressuremonitoring system warning light will blink for approximately 1 minute and then remain continuously illuminated. The warning lightwill issue further warnings each time the engine is restarted as long as the malfunction exists.Check to see whether the warning light goes off after few minutes driving. If it then goes off duri
ng driving, there is no
problem. However, if the warning light does not go off, or if it blinks again when the engine isrestarted, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. In such situations,
a malfunctioning of the

Accordingly, when the low tire pressure tell- tale illuminates, you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a sig-nificantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiencyand tire tread life, and may affect the vehi- cle’s handling and stopping ability. Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute forproper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’sresponsibility to maintain correct tire pres- sure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMSlow tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate whenthe system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale.When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one min- ute and then remain continuously illuminated.This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists.When the malfunction indicator is illumi- nated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the
vehicle that prevent the TPMS from function- ing properly. Always check the TPMS mal- function telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure thatthe replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function prop- erly.

1. If the tire pressure monitoring systemwarning light illuminates, avoid hardbraking, sharp steering maneuvers and high speeds. You should stop and adjust the tires to the proper inflation pressure assoon as possible. Adjust the spare tire at the same time. Refer to “Tires” on page 9-14.
2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light remains illuminated afteryou have been driving for about 20 min- utes after you adjust the tire inflation pres- sure, one or more of the tires may have apuncture. Inspect the tire and if it has a puncture, have it repaired by an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon aspossible.

NOTE
 In addition, the warning display is displayed on the information screen in the multi-infor-mation display.  When inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, do not apply excessive force to the valve stem to avoid breakage.
 After inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, always reinstall the valve cap on the valve stem. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture could get into the valve, resulting in damage to thetire inflation pressure sensor.  Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal reaction, resulting in corrosion and damage of the tire inflation pressure sen- sors.  Once adjustments have been made, the warn- ing light will go off after a few minutes ofdriving.WA R N I N G If the warning light/display illuminates while you are driving, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers and highspeeds. Driving with an under-inflated tire adversely affects vehicle performance and can result in an accident.NOTE

The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in the following circum-stances:  A wireless facility or device using the same frequency is near the vehicle.  Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the wheels.  The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.
 Wheels other than Mitsubishi genuine wheels are being used.  Wheels that are not fitted with tire infla- tion pressure sensors are being used. Wheels whose ID co
des are not memo-
rized by the vehicle are used.  Compact spare tire is fitted on a road wheel.  A window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.

If new wheels with new tire inflation pressure sensors are installed, their ID codes must be programmed into the tire pressure monitoringsystem. NOTE
 Tire inflation pressures vary with the ambi- ent temperature. If the vehicle is subjected tolarge variations in ambient temperature, the tire inflation pressures may be under-inflated (causing the warning light/display to comeon) when the ambient temperature is rela- tively low. If the warning light/display comes on, adjust the tire inflation pressure.
Whenever the tires and wheels are replaced with new ones
CAUTION The use of non-genuine wheels will prevent the proper fit of the tire inflation pressure sensors, resulting in air leakage or damage to the sensors.
