The front air bag modules are located
in the center of the steering wheel, in the front passenger's panel above the
glove box and/or in the driver’s side
knee bolster. When the SRSCM detects a sufficiently severe impact to the
front of the vehicle, it will automatically
deploy the front air bags.

Upon deployment, tear seams molded
directly into the pad covers will sepa‐ rate under pressure from the expan‐
sion of the air bags. Further opening of
the covers then allows full inflation of the air bags.

•Sitting improperly or out of posi‐tion can result in serious or fatalinjury in a crash. All occupantsshould sit upright with the seatback in an upright position, cen‐tered on the seat cushion withtheir seat belt on, legs comforta‐bly extended and their feet on thefloor until the vehicle is parked andthe Engine Start/Stop button is inthe OFF position.
•The SRS air bag system must de‐ploy very rapidly to provide pro‐tection in a crash. If an occupant isout of position because of notwearing a seat belt, the air bagmay forcefully contact the occu‐pant causing serious or fatal inju‐ries.

The passenger’s front air bag can be
deactivated by the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch if a child re‐
straint is installed on the front pas‐
senger's seat or if the front passeng‐ er's seat is unoccupied by a person.
To ensure the safety of your child, the
passenger’s front air bag must be de‐
activated when it should be necessary to install a rearward facing child seat
on the front passenger seat in excep‐
tional circumstances.

cator will illuminate and stay on until the passenger’s front air bag is reacti‐
vated.
To reactivate the passenger’s front air
bag, insert the master key into the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch and turn it to the ON position.
The passenger’s front air bag OFF indi‐ cator will go out.
WARNING
The front air bag ON/OFF switchcould turn by using a similar smallrigid device. Always check the statusof the front air bag ON/OFF switchand passenger's front air bag OFF in‐dicator.
NOTICE
•When the passenger’s front air
bag ON/OFF switch is set to the
ON position, the passenger’s front
air bag is activated and a child or
infant seat should not be installed
on the front passenger seat.
•When the passenger’s front air
bag ON/OFF switch is set to the
OFF position, the passenger’s
front air bag is deactivated.
CAUTION
•If the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch is not workingproperly, the air bag warning light() on the instrument panel willilluminate and the passenger'sfront air bag OFF indicator () willnot illuminate. (The passenger'sfront air bag ON indicator comeson and goes off after approxi‐mately 60 seconds.) The SRS Con‐trol Module reactivates the pas‐senger’s front air bag and the pas‐senger’s front air bag will inflate infrontal impact crashes even if thepassenger’s front air bag ON/OFFswitch is set to the OFF position. If this occurs, we recommend thatthe system be inspected by an au‐thorized Kia dealer.

WARNING
•The driver is responsible for theproper position of the passenger’sfront air bag ON/OFF switch.
•Deactivate the passenger's frontair bag only when the EngineStart/Stop button is in the OFF po‐sition, or the malfunction may oc‐cur in the SRS Control Module. Andthere may be a danger that thedriver's and/or front passenger’sand/or side and curtain air bagmay fail to trigger, or not triggercorrectly during a collision.
•Never install a rearward facingchild seat on the front passenger'sseat unless the passenger's frontair bag has been deactivated. Theinfant or child could be severely in‐jured or killed by an air bag deploy‐ment in case of an accident.

•Even though your vehicle is equip‐ped with the passenger's front airbag ON/OFF switch, do not install achild restraint system in the frontpassenger's seat. A child restraintsystem must never be placed inthe front seat. Children who aretoo large for child restraint sys‐tems should always occupy therear seat and use the available lap/shoulder belts. Children are affor‐ded the most safety in the eventof an accident when they are re‐strained by a proper restraint sys‐tem in the rear seat.
•As soon as the child seat is no lon‐ger needed on the front passeng‐er's seat, reactivate the front pas‐senger's air bag.

❈The actual air bags in the vehicle
may differ from the illustration. Curtain air bags are located along both
sides of the roof rails above the front and rear doors.
They are designed to help protect the
heads of the front seat occupants and
the rear outboard seat occupants in certain side impact collisions.
The curtain air bags are designed to
deploy during certain side impact colli‐
sions, depending on the crash severity, angle, speed and point of impact. How‐
ever, when the side deployment
threshold is satisfied at front impact, the side air bags may deploy.
The curtain air bags may deploy on the
side of the impact side.
The curtain air bags are not designed
to deploy in all side impacts or rollover situations.

WARNING
•Do not hit or allow any objects toimpact the locations where airbags or sensors are installed. This may cause unexpected airbag deployment, which could re‐sult in serious personal injury ordeath.
•If the installation location or angleof the sensors is altered in anyway, the air bags may deploywhen they should not or they maynot deploy when they should, causing severe injury or death. Therefore, do not try to performmaintenance on or around the airbag sensors. We recommend thatthe system be serviced by an au‐thorized Kia dealer.
•Problems may arise if the sensorinstallation angles are changed dueto the deformation of the frontbumper, body or front door and Cpillars where side collision sensorsare installed. We recommend thatthe system be serviced by an au‐thorized Kia dealer.

Record your key number
The key code number is stamped on the
key code tag attach‐ed to the key set.
Should you lose your keys, we recom‐

nIgnition key (smart key)
Leaving children unattended in a ve‐hicle with the ignition key (smartkey) is dangerous even if the key isnot in the ignition or the start but‐ton is in the ACC or ON position. Chil‐dren copy adults and they couldplace the key in the ignition or pressthe start button. The smart keywould enable children to operatepower windows or other controls, oreven make the vehicle move, whichcould result in serious bodily injuryor even death. Never leave the keysin your vehicle with unsupervisedchildren, when the engine is running.
WARNING
We recommend that you use partsfor replacement from an authorizedKia dealer. If an aftermarket key isused, the ignition switch may not re‐turn to ON after START. If this hap‐pens, the starter will continue to op‐erate causing damage to the startermotor and possible fire due to ex‐cessive current in the wiring.
Immobilizer system
Your vehicle may be equipped with an
electronic engine immobilizer system to
reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle use.
Your immobilizer system is comprised
of a small transponder in the ignition
key and electronic devices inside the vehicle.
With the immobilizer system, whenever
the engine start/stop button is
changed to the ON position, it checks and determines and verifies if the igni‐
tion key is valid or not.
If the key is determined to be valid, the
engine will start.
If the key is determined to be invalid, the engine will not start.
