iDriveVehicle
features
and
options
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
Concept
The iDrive combines the functions of many
switches. Thus, these functions can be operj
ated from a central location.
Safety
information WARNING
Operating the integrated information
systems and communication devices while
driving can distract from traffic. It is possible to lose control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an
accident. Only use the systems or devices
when the traffic situation allows. If necessary,
stop and use the systems and devices while
the vehicle is stationary.'

Controller
The buttons can be used to open the menus
directly. The controller can be used to select
menu items and enter the settings.
Some iDrive functions can be operated using
the touchpad on the controller.

In the Owner's Manual, menu items that can be
selected are set in quotation marks, e.g.,
"Settings".
Changing
between
panels
After a menu item is selected, e.g., "Radio", a new panel is displayed. Panels can overlap.
'yMove the controller to the left.
Closes current panel and shows previous
display.
Reopens previous display by pressing
BACK button. In this case, the current
panel is not closed.'yMove the controller to the right.
Opens new panel on top of previous screen.White arrows pointing to the left or right indij

Additional options: move the controller to the

Activating/deactivating

functions
Several menu items are preceded by a checkj
box. It indicates whether the function is actij vated or deactivated. Selecting the menu itemactivates or deactivates the function.

Entering letters requires some practice at the
beginning. When entering, pay attention to the
following:
'yThe system distinguishes between upper and lower-case letters and numbers. For
entries, it may be necessary to change bej tween upper and lower-case letters, numjbers and characters, refer to page 26.'yEnter characters as they are displayed on
the Control Display.'yAlways enter associated characters, such
as accents or periods so that the letter can
be clearly recognized. The set language determines what input is possible. Where
necessary, enter special characters via the
controller.'yTo delete a character, swipe to the left on the touchpad.'yTo enter a blank space, swipe to the rightin the center of the touchpad.'yTo enter a hyphen, swipe to the right in theupper area of the touchpad.'yTo enter an underscore, swipe to the rightin the lower area of the touchpad.

The interactive map in the navigation systemand Internet pages can be moved using the
touchpad.
