Driver information
system
Introduction
General notes
The driver information display inside the instru­
ment cluster provides you , the driver, with much
useful information.

Information from the driver information system
is shown in the display in the center of the instr u­
ment cluster.
When you turn on the ignition and while you are
driving, some functions and vehicle components
are sca nned for their operat ing status. Malfunc­
tions or required service procedures are signaled
audibly and shown by red and yellow lighted
symbols and reminders to the driver in the dis­
play.
The driver is also shown information about rad io
and CD operat ion and directions for the naviga­
tion system*. You can find addit ional information
on these subjects in the radio or MMI* manual.
The illustrations in the instrument panel display
differ in some of the vehicles .
The driver information system provides the fol­

If priority 1 or pr iority 2 faults are not shown by
the Auto Check Control, the name of the radio
station you are tuned to or the frequency and the
reception range are shown in the upper area of
the display .
When the CD is in use , the tit le of the track being
played is shown. The CD changer disp lays the
number of the current CD (CDl to CD6).

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed ac­
cordingly. The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a service
reminder appears in the display when you turn on
the ignition
¢ fig. 13.
After about 5 seconds the display switches back
to normal. The distance and time remaining are
updated each time the ignition is turned on until
the date due for service is reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instrument
cluster immediately after you turn on the igni­
tion . Additionally, a warning tone sounds. After
about
5 seconds the display switches back to nor­
mal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due, can
be shown in the radio or MMI* display by select­
ing the service interval display in the car menu.
Select
I CARI function button > Service interval
display
or I CAR I function button > Car systems*
control button > Servicing & checks > Service in­
tervals .
Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dealer will reset the corre­
sponding service schedule after performing the

appropriate service on your vehicle. You also have
the possibility to reset the oil change schedule after having performed an oil change according
to Audi specifications. Select

tervals > Reset oil change interval.
(D Note
- Only reset the oil change display when you
have completed an oil change.
- If you disconnect the battery terminals, no
calculations can be made for the service in­
terval display during this time and no serv­
ice reminder will appear. Remember that
observing the proper service intervals is vi­
tally important to extending the life of your
vehicle, particularly the engine, and main­
taining its value. Do not exceed the time in­
terval for the next service, even if the vehi­ cle mileage is low.
@ Tips
The information in the Service Reminder re­
mains stored even when the vehicle battery is
disconnected.
On-board computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you information on cur­
rent and average fuel mileage, average speed ,
fuel range and driving time .

't=?: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en ­
g ine oi l pressure is too low. A d river message ap ­
pears as well to explain t he malfunction in mo re
deta il. Th e d river war ning goes ou t afte r abo ut 5
s econds, but it can be b ro u gh t up at any time by
p ressing the
ISET I button again.
Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
• Stop t he ve hicle .
• Turn the eng ine
off.
• Check the eng ine oi l level ¢ page 221.
• Co ntact yo ur autho rized Aud i dea le r for assis-
tance if necessary.
Engine oil level too low
If the engine o il level is too low, add eng ine oi l
¢page 221.
Engine oil level correct
If th e sym bol. flashes even thoug h the en gin e
oil leve l is correct, p lease contact your nea rest
author ized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue dr iv ing .
Do not leave the eng ine running
idle, either .
@ Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably
each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

@-Steering malfunction
If there is a malfunction in the electronic steer ­
ing column lock, the steering cannot be un­
locked.
If the . symbo l in the disp lay bli nks, t here is a
malfunction in t he electronic stee ring col umn
l ock. A driver message appears as we ll to exp la in
t h e malfunction i n mo re detail. The dr ive r warn­
ing goes out afte r about 5 seconds , but it can be
broug ht up a t any time by press ing the

A malfunction in the ignition lock must b e re­
paired immediately .

"'Drive immediate ly to an authorized Audi dealer
to have the malfunction corrected.
If there is a malfunct ion in the electronic ignition
lock, the ignition cannot be turned
off . Drive im­
mediately to an authorized service facility to have
the cause of the malfunction corrected.
O n ve hicles with Convenience key* , the eng ine
should not be switched
off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched
off.

When a ye llow warning symbol appears, one
warning tone sounds. A driver message appears

The driver wa rning goes out after about 5 sec­
onds, but it can be brough t up at any t ime by
pressing the
I S ET I button again .
Check the funct ion disp layed as soon as possible.
The yellow symbol w ill not go o ut again until the
reason for the malfunct io n has been corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the
symbo ls appear in succession and remain for
about 2 seconds.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with re­ mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the master key

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constant
use . It should only be used in an emergency , for
example, in place of the ignition key
9 page 83. Keep it in a safe place and do not
carry it on your key ring or store it in the vehicle.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, con tac t your au thori zed Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disabled .
Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
Q page 9. This allows you to
make sure you have received all of the keys when
you purchase a used vehicle. Depending on the
vehicle equipment level, this function may also
be performed in the MMI*. To do this, select:

Opening and closing
Your Audi service adviser can read out this data
and tell you about the work your veh icle needs.
This applies also to vehicles with Convenience key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master key. When the ignition is turned off or when the
vehicle is locked, personal convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive select*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
-.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock . Entry by unau­
thorized persons could endanger you or re­
sult in theft or damage the vehicle . Always
lock all doors and take the key .
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Unguarded access to the keys provides chil­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems such as the
power windows etc. Unsupervised operation
of any vehicle system by children can result
in serious injury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident.

be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the vicinity of the .,.

switched back on by moving the windshield
wiper lever to any position .
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades result
i n streaking. This can affect the rain sensor
funct ion . Check yo ur windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on.
- When stopping temporarily, e .g . at a traffic
light, the set speed of the windsh ield wipers
i s automatically reduced by one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshield wiper blades when they be­
g in to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth a nd glass
cleane r to clean the w indshield wiper blades .
Front w ipe r
.. Place the windshield wiper arms in the service
pos ition. Refer to
9 page 55 .
.. Lift the wiper arm away from the front window .
Rear wiper
.. Lift the wiper arm away from the rear window.
A WARNING
Dirty windshield wiper blades can impair your
view. This can lead to accidents.

Lights and Vision
The windshield wipers move into the service po­
sition .

Removing the wiper blade

Attaching the wiper blade
.. Insert t he new wipe r blade into the mount on

A WARNING ~ -
F or your safety, you should replace the wiper
b lades once or twice a year . See your author­
i zed Audi dealer for replacement blades.

- T he windshie ld wiper blades must on ly be
replaced when in the service position! Oth­
erwise, you r isk damaging the paint on the
hood or the w indshield wiper motor .
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windsh ield wiper lever when the wiper
arms a re folded away from the windshie ld.
The windshield wipers would move back in­
t o their or iginal pos ition and could damage
the hood and w indshie ld .
