- When stopping on an incline, do not try to
hold the vehicle in place by pressing the ac­
celerator pedal while a driving gear is se­
l ected. This can cause the transmission to
overheat and can damage it. Set the parking
brake or press the brake pedal to prevent
the vehicle from rolling.
- Allow ing the vehicle to roll when the engine
is stopped will damage the transmission be­
cause it is not lubricated .
(D Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is fastened.
Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the driver
when driving down hills .
Hill descent contro l is activated when the selec­
tor lever is in the Dor S position and you press
the brake pedal. The transmission automatically
selects a gear that is suitable for the hill. Hill de­
scent control tries to maintain the speed ach­
ieved at the time of braking, within physical and
technical limitations. If may still be necessary to adjust the speed with the brake pedal.
Hill descent control switches off once the hill lev­
els out or you press the accelerator pedal.
On vehicles with a cruise control system*
¢ page 85, hill descent control is also activated
when the speed is set.
_& WARNING
Hill descent control cannot overcome physical
limitations, so it may not be able to maintain

a constant speed under all conditions. Always be ready to apply the brakes.
Shifting manually (tiptronic mode)
The tiptronic mode allows the driver to shi~ the
gears manually .

Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accelerato r peda l down be­
yond the resistance point, the automatic trans­
miss io n downshifts into a lower gear, depend ing
on vehicle speed and engine RPM. It shif ts up in­
to the next higher gear once the max imum speci­
fied engine RPM is reached .
I n t iptroni c mode, the t ransmission does

m ust accelerate, for example to pass a veh icle,
you must shift manually .

Overboost

When towing a trailer, inflate the tires of your
vehicle to the tire pressure listed under "Full
load" on the label
¢page 221. Inflate trailer
tires to trailer and tire manufacturers' specifica­
tions .
Lights
Check to make sure both vehicle and trailer lights
are working properly.
Safety chains
Be sure trailer safety chains are properly connect­
ed from the trailer to the hitch on the vehicle. Leave enough slack in the chains to permit turn­
ing corners. When you install safety chains, make
sure they will not drag on the road when you are
driving.
The chains should cross under the trailer tongue
to prevent it from dropping in case of separation
from the hitch.
Adjusting the Audi drive select
Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface before
hitching up the trailer and before adjusting the
tongue weight. The vehicle must be in
auto or
comfort driving mode and not raised
¢page 105, ¢0 .
Make sure that the vehicle is lowered. In Info­
tainment , select:
ICARI function button> Lower
control button.
If you must drive under poor road conditions , you
can raise the vehicle
after coupling the trailer or
after adjusting the tongue weight ¢page 107.

-Changes in temperature or load can affect
the height of the vehicle.
- Always select
auto or comfort mode. Other­
wise, the tongue load specified for your ve­
hicle will no longer be applicable.
Trailer towing
Driving instructions
Driving with a trailer always requires extra care
and consideration .
Weight distribution
Towing a loaded trailer with an empty car results
in a highly unstable distribution of weight. If this
cannot be avoided, drive at very low speeds only
to avoid the risk of losing steering control.
A "balanced" rig is easier to operate and control.
This means that the tow vehicle should be loaded
to the extent possible and permissible, while keeping the trailer as light as possible under the
circumstances . Whenever possible, transfer
some cargo to the luggage compartment of the
tow vehicle while observing tongue load require­
ments and vehicle loading considerations.
Speed
The higher the speed, the more difficult it be­
comes for the driver to control the rig . Do not
drive at the maximum permissible speed. Reduce
your speed even more if load, weather or wind
conditions are unfavorable -particularly when
going downhill.
Reduce vehicle speed
immediately if the trailer
shows the slightest sign of swaying .
Do not try
to stop the swaying by accelerating.
Observe speed limits. In some areas, speeds for
vehicles towing trailers are lower than for regular
vehicles.
Always apply brakes early . When driving down ­
hill, shift into a lower gear to use the engine
braking effect to slow the vehicle. Use of the
brakes alone can cause them to overheat and fail.
Air suspension*
When driving with a trailer, activate the trailer
mode of the air suspension. Switch the air sus ­
pension trailer mode on when you are towing a
trailer. This will limit the regulation by the air
suspension while driving . Select in the MMI:

hours are also shown when the lap time exceeds
60 minutes. The maximum individual measure ­
ment is 99 hours. A maximum of SO laps can be
recorded.

-Your focus shou ld always be on driving your
vehicle safe ly. As the driver, you have com­
plete respons ibility for safety in traffic. Only
use the functions in such a way that you al­
ways maintain complete control over your ve­
hicle in all traffic situations .

Audi active lane assist
Description
Appl ies to: vehicles with Audi act ive lane assist
Active lane assist detects lane marker lines with­
i n the lim its of the system using a camera in the
windshield. If you are approach ing a detected
lane marker line and it appears like ly that you
will leave the lane, the system w ill warn you with
corrective steering. You can override this steering
at any time. If you pass over a line, the steering
whee l w ill vibrate lightly. In orde r fo r thi s warn­
i ng vibration to occ ur, it must first be switched
on in the Infotainment system. Active lane ass ist
is ready for operation when the lane marker line
is detected on at least one side of the vehicle.
The system is des igned for driving on express­
ways and highways and therefore on ly activates
at speeds above approximately 40 mph (65 km/
h) .
Applies to: vehicles with side assist
If you activate a turn s ignal when act ive lane as­
s ist is ready and it classifies a lane change as crit ­
ica l because of vehicles traveling a longside you or
approach ing you, there wi ll be noticeable correc­
tive steer ing shortly before you leave the lane.
This will attempt to keep your veh icle in the lane.
Applies to: vehicles without side assist
The system will not wa rn you befo re c ross ing a
l ane marke r line if you have act ivated the t urn
s ignal. In this case, it assumes that you are
changing lanes intentionally.
Applies to: vehicles with adaptive cru ise control
The corrective steer ing is targeted based on the
driv ing situation . In add it ion to the lane marke r .,.

lines, the system c an also t ake into account other
objects such as guard rails . If they are detected in
close proximity to the veh icle, active lane assist
he lps prevent the vehicle from driving too close
to them. There is also passing assistance . The
system does not provide any corrective steering if
i t detects that you are passing another veh icle .

the vehicle within the lane .
- T he system can help you keep the vehicle in
th e lan e, but i t does not drive by itself. Al­

whee l.
- Corrective steer ing may not o ccur in ce rtain
situations , su ch as during heavy bra king.
- T here m ay be cases where the came ra does
not recognize all lane ma rker lines . Correc ­
t ive steering can o nly take p lace on the side
of the veh icle where lane marker lines are
detected.
- Other road structures or objects could possi­
bly be identified unintentiona lly as lane
marker lines . As a result, corrective steering
may be unexpected or may not occur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for ex­ ample by vehicles driv ing ahead or by rain,
snow, heavy spray or light shining into the
camera . This can result in act ive lane assist
not detec ting the lane marke r lines or de­
tecting them incor rectly.
- Under certa in conditions suc h as rut s in the
road, a bank ed roadway o r crosswinds , the
co rrective stee ring a lone may not be enough
to keep the vehicle in the mi ddle of the lane.
- F or safety reasons, active lane assis t m ust
not be used when the re are poor roa d an d/
o r we athe r cond itions s uch a s slippery
roads, fog, grave l, heavy r ain, snow a nd the
potent ial for hydroplaning . Using active lane
assist under these conditions may increase
the risk of a crash.

Indicator lights
• Ready: the indicator light turns on when the
system is ready for use. The system can now be
operated .
• Not ready : the indicator light turns on if the
system is switched on but is inoperable. This may
be due to the following reasons:
- There is no lane marker line .
- The relevant lane mar ke r li nes a re not detected
(for examp le, ma rkings in a construction zone
or because they are obstructed by snow, dirt,
water or light ing).
- The vehicle speed is be low the activation speed
of approximate ly 40 mph (65 km/h) .
- The la ne is too nar row or too wide .
- The curve is too narrow.
- The d river's hands are not on the steer ing
wheel.
