You can enter letters, numbers and symbols in
the MM I using the letter/number speller. This
option is available when the input field@is ac­
tive

-Opening/closing the letter/number speller:
move the con trol knob up/down when the input
field is active .

> Open speller/Close speller .
- Entering characters:
turn the con trol knob with
the character selection
@ ¢fig . 172 to the de ­
s ired symbol. Press the control knob to confirm
the character . Your input is displayed in the in­
put field
@ . Once you have entered all of the
characters, select and confirm the button

- Entering accented characters (such as a, ~. ii,
o)*: turn the control knob with the character
selection @¢ fig. 172 to a character . To open
the selected accented characters, press and
hold the control knob . Turn the control knob
with the character

accented character . Press the control knob to
insert the accented character . To close the ac­
cented characters without se lecting a charac­
ter, press and hold the cont rol knob aga in.

-Deleting characters : turn the control knob w ith
the selection arrow to

tion by pushing the control knob upward .
-Results list : in some cases, such as in the direc ­
tory, the system sw itches automatically to the
results list based on available entries @

- Switching between speller and MMI touch*:
the handwriting recognit ion for the MMI touch
cont rol pad* is activated automatically . Simply
start writing.

The navigation system directs you to your desti­
nation , around traffic incidents and on alterna­
tive routes, if desired .

- The route calculated by the navigation sys­
tem is a recommendation for reaching your
destination. Obey traffic lights, stopping re­
strictions, one-way streets, lane change re­
strictions, etc .

- If
the dr iv ing directions conflict with traffic
laws, obey the traffic laws.
- To reduce the risk of an accident, adjust the
volume of the navigat ion system so that s ig­
nals from outs ide the veh icle, such as police
and fire s irens, can be heard easily at all
t imes.
(D Tips
- Snow and obstruct ions on the GPS antenna
or interference caused by trees and large
buildings can impair satellite reception and
affect the system's ability to determine the
vehicle position. Several deactivated or mal­
functioning satellites can also interrupt GPS
reception and affect the system's ability to
determine the vehicle position.
-Because street names somet imes change,
the names stored in the MMI may in rare
cases differ from the actual street name.
Entering a destination
Free text search for destinations
Applies to: vehicles with navigation system
With the free text search, you con enter the navi­
gation destination data all at once in any order using the MMI touch control
pad* or the letter/
number speller (for example, 20 Elm Street, Chi­
cago). Likewise, you can search for points of in­
terest, contacts, previous destinations or favor­
ites to navigate to the desired address.
Press the I NAV/MAPI button repeatedly until the
