Indicator Lights
Description
The indica to r lights in the inst rument cluste r
blink or t urn on. They indicate funct ions or ma l­
functions .

Messages may appea r wi th some indi cato r lights.
A wa rning signal w ill so und at the same time.
The indicator ligh ts and messages in the instru ­
ment cluster display can be covered by other dis­
p lays. Yo u can have these displayed again in the
drive r information system by opening the second
Veh icle tab (messages) using the
l <1 ~ I button on
the multifunction steering wheel. If there are
several malfunctions, you can d isplay them one
at a time us ing the thumbwhee l.
Some ind icator lights in the display can display in
several colors .

steam or coolant escap ing from the engine
compartment. This increases the risk of
burns . Wa it until you no longer see or hea r
steam o r coolant escap ing .
- The e ngine compartment in any veh icle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the eng ine and
allow it to cool before wo rking in the engine
c ompar tment. A lways fo llow the informa­

~ Engine oil pressure
• Switch off engine! Oil pre ssure too low
Stop the eng ine and do not continue driving.
Check the engine oil leve l r=:> page 321.
-If the engine oil level is too low, add engine o il
r=:> page 319. Only cont inue dr iv ing o nce the in­
dicato r light turn s off.
- If the engine oil level is correct and the indica­
tor light st ill tur ns on, turn the eng ine off and
do not con tinue driving. See an a utho rized Aud i
dealer or author ized A udi Service Facility for as ­
sistance .
(D Tips
The oil pressure w arning is not an o il level in­
dicator. Always check the oil level regu la rly.

Service Facility if the batte ry charge leve l is too
l ow .

tery will be charged while driving

If this message t urns off after a little whi le, the
vehicle battery charged enough while driving.
If the message does not turn off, have an author ­
ized Audi dea ler or authorized Audi Service Facili ­
ty repair the malfunction .
!f Safety systems
The fll indicator light monitors the safety sys­
tems .
If the
fll ind icator light turns on or blinks, there
is a ma lfunction in a safety system .
Drive to an authorized A udi dealer or authorized
Audi Se rvice Facility immediate ly to have the
malfunction corrected.

-If tests need to be performed with the en­
gine running, there is additional danger due
to moving components (such as the ribbed belt, alternator and radiator fan) and from
the high-voltage ignition system.
-Never reach into the radiator fan. The elec­
tric auxiliary fan is controlled by tempera­
ture and can switch on suddenly.
-Do not under any circumstances activate the
throttle inadvertently (for example, by hand
from the engine compartment) if the vehi­
cle is stationary but the engine is running
and a gear is engaged. Otherwise, the vehi­
cle will start to move immediately and this
could result in an accident.
-Pay attention to the following warnings list­
ed when work on the fuel system or on the
electrical equipment is required.
- Do not smoke .
-Never work near open flames.
- Always have a working fire extinguisher
nearby
- All work on the battery or electrical system
in your vehicle can result in injuries, chemi •
cal burns, accidents or burns. Because of
this, all work must be performed
only by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility.
-To reduce the risk of electric shock and in­
jury, never touch the following components when the engine is running or is being start­
ed :
- Ignition cable
-Other components in the electronic high-
voltage ignition system
-If you must check or perform work on the
engine while it is running:
-Set the parking brake and place the selec­
tor lever in the P (park) position first .
- Always proceed with extreme caution so
that clothing, jewelry or long hair do not
become caught in the radiator fan, fan
belt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo­
nents. Tie back long hair before beginning
work and do not wear clothing that can
hang down into the engine .
Checking and Filling
-Limit your exposure to exhaust and chemi­
cals to as short a time as possible

- Battery posts, terminals and related acces­

When filling fluids, be sure not to mix the flu­
ids up. Otherwise severe malfunctions and en­
gine damage will occur.
@ For the sake of the environment
You should regularly check the ground under
your vehicle in order to detect leaks quickly. If
there are visible spots from oil or other fluids, bring your vehicle to an authorized Audi deal­
er or authori zed Audi Service Facility to be
checked.

9. In the ve hicle that is being jump started,
switch the heater fan and rear window de ­
froster on to reduce any voltage peaks that
may occur when disconnecting the jumper
cables. The headlights must be switched off.
10. With the engines running, remove the cables
i n
reverse order of the way they were instal­
l ed. Make sure the cables do not get caught
in mov ing engine components.
11. Sw itch the heater fan and rear w indow de-
froster off.
12. C lose the battery cover .
The battery is vented to the outside so that gases
do not enter the passenger compartment. Make
sure that the connected positive termina l clamps
on the jump start cab le have sufficient contact
with metal.
A WARNING
Follow the warnings and instructions from
the jump start cab le manufacturer to reduce
the risk of ser ious injuries and vehicle dam­
age. If you are unsure about anything, call
roads ide ass istance.
- The jump start cables must be long enough
so that the veh icles do not touch.
-
- Route the jump start cables so they cannot
get caught in the moving parts in the engine
compartment.
- Always read and follow the warnings before check ing anything in the engine compart­
ment

Connecting jump start cables incorrectly can
damage the alternator .
- Always connect the positive terminal(+) to
the positive term inal(+) and the negative
term inal(-) to the negat ive terminal(-) on
the body ground po int, but not the negative
terminal on the battery.
- Make su re the screw plugs on the battery
cells are installed securely. If not, tighten
the plugs before connecting the clamps to
the negat ive termina l on the b attery.
- Please note t hat the connecting p rocess de­
scribed below for the jump sta rt cab les is
in-
370 tended for when your vehicle is being jump
started. If you are jump starting another ve­
hicle, do not connect the negat ive cab le to
the negative term inal (-) on the dra ined
battery, but rather connect it to a large
metal component that is bolted secure ly to
the engine block, or to the engine block it­
self.
If the battery in the vehicle being jump
sta rted is not vented to the outside, there is
a risk of explosion due to hyd rogen gas.
- Make sure that the connected pos itive ter­
minal clamps have suff icient contact with
metal.
- Do not use the battery negative terminal fo r
jump starting or a ma lfunction co uld occ ur
in the vehicle electrical system.
Towing with a tow truck
General tips
Your Audi requires special handling for towing.
The following information is to be used by com­ mercia l tow truck operators who know how to op ­
erate their equipment safely.
-Never tow your Audi. Towing will cau se dam­
age to the engine and t ran smi ssi on.
- Nev er wrap the safet y ch ains or winch cables
aroun d the br ake lines .
- To pr event unne ce ssa ry damag e, your Audi
must be tran sported with a flat be d tru ck .
- To load th e vehicle on to the flat bed , use th e
towing l oop found in the vehicl e tool s and at ­
t a ch to the front or rear an chorage

A WARNING
A veh icle being towed is not safe for passen­
gers. Never allow anyone to ride in a vehicle
being towed, fo r any reason.
