Precaution for Brake Control SystemINFOID:0000000012430822
• Just after starting vehicle after ignition switch is ON, brake pedal may vibrate or motor operating noise may be heard from engine compartment. This is a normal condition.
• When an error is indicated by ABS or another warning lamp, collect all necessary information from customer
(what symptoms are present under what conditions) and check for simple causes before starting diagnostic
servicing. Besides electrical system inspection, c heck brake booster operation, brake fluid level and oil
leaks.
• If tire size and type are used in an improper combinati on or brake pads are not Genuine NISSAN parts, stop-
ping distance or steering stability may deteriorate.
• ABS might be out of order or malfunctions by putting a radio (wiring inclusive), an antenna and a lead-in wire
near the control unit.
• If aftermarket parts (car stereo, CD player, etc.) have been installed, check for incidents such as harness pinches, open circuits, and improper wiring.
• VDC system may not operate normally or a VDC OFF indi cator lamp or SLIP indicator lamp may light.
- When replacing the following parts with parts other than genuine parts or making modifications: Suspension- related parts (shock absorber, spring, bushing, etc.), tire s, wheels (other than specified sizes), brake-related
parts (pad, rotor, caliper, etc.), engine-related parts (muffler, ECM, etc.) and body reinforcement-related parts
(roll bar, tower bar, etc.).
- When driving with worn or deteriorated suspension, tires and brake-related parts.
Precaution for Harness RepairINFOID:0000000012430823
• Solder the repair part, and wrap it with tape. [Twisted wire fray
must be 110 mm (4.33 in) or less.]
• Do not bypass the repair point with wire. (If it is bypassed, the turn- out point cannot be separated and the twisted wire characteristics
are lost.)

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
NOTE:
(1) After 40,000 miles (64,000 km) or 48 months, inspect every 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or 12 months. Replace the drive belts if found
damaged.
(2) If operating mainly in dusty conditions, more frequent maintenance may be required.
(3) Maintenance-free item. For service procedures, refer to FL section.
(4) First replacement interval is 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 84 months. After first replacement, replace every 75,000 miles (120,000
km) or 60 months.
(5) Use only Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze / Coolant (blue) or equivalent with proper mixture ratio of 50% antifreeze and 50%
demineralized or distilled water. Mixing any other type of coolant or the use of non-distilled water will reduce the life expec tancy of the
factory-fill coolant.
(6) Replace spark plug when the spark plug gap exceeds 1.35 mm (0.053 in), even if within specified periodic replacement mileag e.
(7) Periodic maintenance is not required. However, if valve noise increases, inspect valve clearance.
*: Maintenance items and intervals with “*” are recommended by NISSAN for reli able vehicle operation. The owner need not perform
such maintenance in order to maintain the emission warranty or manufacturer recall liability. Other maintenance items and inter vals are
required.

Maintenance items with “ ” shoul d be performed more frequently according to “Maintenance Under Severe Driving Condi-
tions”.
• (1) Use only Genuine NISSAN CVT fluid. If towing a trailer, using a camper or a car-top carrier, of driving on rough or muddy roads,
inspect CVT fluid deterioration at NISSAN dealers every 60,000 miles (96,000 km), then change CVT fluid if necessary. And if th e
inspection is not performed, change (not just inspect) CVT fluid every 60,000 miles (96,000 km). Using transmission fluid other than
Genuine NISSAN CVT fluid will damage the CVT, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.
• (2) If tower a trailer, using a camper or car-top carrier, or driving on rough or muddy roads, change (not just inspect) oil a t every 20,000
miles (32,000 km) or 24 months.
• (3) Refer to "Tire rotation" under "GENERAL MAINTENANCE" heading earlier in this section.
MAINTENANCE UNDER SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS
The maintenance intervals shown on the preceding pages are for normal operating conditions. If the vehicle is
mainly operated under severe driving conditions as shown below, more frequent maintenance must be per-
formed on the following items as shown in the table.
Severe driving conditions
• Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles (8 km).
• Repeated short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km) wi th outside temperatures remaining below freezing.
• Operating in hot weather in stop-and-go "rush hour" traffic.

DISC BRAKE : Brake BurnishingINFOID:0000000012432285
BRAKE BURNISHING
Burnish contact surfaces between disc brake rotor and brake pads according to the following procedure after
refinishing disc brake rotors, replacing disc brake rotors,
replacing brake pads, or if a soft pedal occurs at very
low mileage:
CAUTION:
• Be careful of vehicle speed because the brake peda l does not operate firmly/securely until pads and
disc brake rotor are securely seated.
• Only perform this procedure under safe road and traffic conditions. Use extreme caution.
1. Drive vehicle on straight, flat road.
2. Depress brake pedal with the power to stop vehicle within 3 to 5 seconds until the vehicle stops.
3. Drive without depressing brake pedal for a few minutes to cool the brakes.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 until pad and disc brake rotor are securely seated.

INSPECTION
Appearance
Check surface of disc brake rotor for uneven wear, cra cks, and serious damage. Replace it if necessary. Refer
to BR-45, "
Front Disc Brake".
Runout
1. Secure the disc brake rotor to the wheel hub with wheel nuts (2
points at least).
2. Check the wheel bearing axial end play before the inspection. Refer to FA X - 7 , "
Inspection".
3. Inspect the runout with a dial indicator to measure at 10 mm (0.39 in) inside the disc edge.
4. Find the installation position that has a minimum runout by shift-
ing the disc brake rotor-to-wheel hub installation position by one
hole at a time if the runout exceeds the limit value.
5. Refinish or replace the disc brake rotor if the runout is outside the limit even after performing the above
operation.
CAUTION:
If the thickness is less than w ear thickness + 0.3 mm (0.012 in), replace the disc brake rotor. Refer
to BR-37, "
BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY : Removal and Installation".
Thickness
Check the thickness of the disc brake rotor using a micrometer.
Replace the disc brake rotor if the thickness is below the wear limit.
