socket in your vehicle (Y page 318).
X Turn the key to position 1in the ignition lock
(Y page 144).
X Press on/off switch =on tyre inflation com-
pressor.
The tyre inflation compressor is switched on.
The tyre is inflated.
First, tyre sealant is pumped into the tyre. The pressure may briefly rise to approximately
500 kPa (5 bar/73 psi).
Do not switch off the tyre inflation com-
pressor during this phase.
X Let the tyre inflation compressor run for a
maximum of ten minutes. The tyre should
then have reached a pressure of at least
200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi).
If a pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi) has
been attained after ten minutes, see "Tyre pres- sure reached" (Y page 344).
If a tyre pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi) has
not been attained after ten minutes, see "Tyre
pressure not reached" (Y page 344).
If tyre sealant leaks out, make sure you clean the affected area as quickly as possible. It is pref-
erable to use clear water.
If you get tyre sealant on your clothing, have it
cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethy-
lene.
Tyre pressure not reached If a tyre pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi) has
not been reached after ten minutes:
X Switch off the tyre inflation compressor.
X Unscrew the filler hose from the valve of the
faulty tyre.
Tyre sealant may leak out when the filler hose
is unscrewed.
X Very slowly drive forwards or reverse approx-
imately 10 m.
X Pump up the tyre again.
After a maximum of ten minutes, the tyre
pressure must be at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar/
29 psi). G
WARNING
If the required tyre pressure is not reached
after the specified time, the tyre is too badly
damaged. The tyre sealant cannot repair the tyre in this instance. Damaged tyres and a tyre
pressure that is too low can significantly
impair the vehicle's braking and driving char-
acteristics. There is a risk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.

Tyre pressure reached G
WARNING
A tyre temporarily sealed with tyre sealant
impairs the driving characteristics and is not
suitable for higher speeds. There is a risk of
accident.
You should therefore adapt your driving style
accordingly and drive carefully. Do not exceed the specified maximum speed with a tyre that
has been repaired using tyre sealant.
The maximum permissible speed for a tyre
sealed with tyre sealant is 80 km/h. The upper
part of the TIREFIT sticker must be affixed to the
instrument cluster where it will be easily seen by
the driver.
If a tyre pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi) has been reached after ten minutes:
X Switch off the tyre inflation compressor.
X Unscrew the filler hose from the valve of the
faulty tyre.
Tyre sealant may leak out when the filler hose
is unscrewed.
X Stow the tyre sealant bottle, the tyre inflation
compressor and the warning triangle.
X Pull away immediately.
X Stop after driving for approximately ten
minutes and check the tyre pressure with the
tyre inflation compressor.
The tyre pressure must now be at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). G
WARNING
If the required tyre pressure is not reached
after driving for a short period, the tyre is too badly damaged. The tyre sealant cannot

Keep away from fire and naked flames. Do not
lean over the battery. Never charge the battery
if it is still fitted to the vehicle, unless you are
using a battery charger that has been tested and
approved by Mercedes-Benz. A battery charger
unit specially adapted for Mercedes-Benz vehi-
cles and tested and approved by Mercedes-
Benz is available as an accessory. This device
permits charging of the battery while it is instal- led. Contact a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre
for information and availability. Read the battery charger's operating instructions before charg-
ing the battery.
All vehicles except vehicles with a lithium-
ion battery: if the warning and indicator lamps
on the instrument cluster do not light up at low temperatures, it is very likely that the dis-
charged battery has frozen. In this case, you
may neither jump-start the vehicle nor charge
the battery. The service life of a battery that has
been thawed may be reduced. The starting char-
acteristics may be impaired, especially at low
temperatures. Have the thawed battery
checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
Vehicles with a lithium-ion battery: at low
temperatures, do not use a battery charger to
charge a battery that has been removed. Allow
the battery to warm up gently first, if necessary. Otherwise, the service life may be reduced and
the starting characteristics impaired, especially
at low temperatures. Jump-starting
Hybrid vehicles: make sure that you read the separate Owner's Manual. You could otherwise fail
to recognise dangers, e.g. due to high voltage.
For the jump-starting procedure, use only the jump-starting connection point, consisting of a pos- itive terminal and an earth point, in the engine compartment.
All vehicles except vehicles with a lithium-ion battery: G
WARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of injury.
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or clothing. Do not breathe in any battery gases. Do not lean over the battery. Keep the batteries out of the reach of children. Immediately rinse off battery acid
thoroughly with plenty of clean water and seek medical attention at once. G
WARNING
During charging and jump-starting, explosive gases can escape from the battery. There is a risk of an explosion.
Particularly avoid fire, naked flames, creating sparks and smoking. Ensure there is sufficient
ventilation while charging and jump-starting. Do not lean over a battery. G
WARNING
During the charging process, a battery produces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs or sparks
are created, the hydrogen gas can ignite. There is a risk of an explosion.
R Make sure that the positive terminal of a connected battery does not come into contact with
vehicle parts.
R Never place metal objects or tools on a battery.
R It is important that you observe the described order of the battery terminals when connecting
and disconnecting a battery.
R When jump-starting, make sure that the battery poles with identical polarity are connected. 348

It is particularly important to observe the described order when connecting and disconnecting
the jump leads.
R Never connect or disconnect the battery terminals while the engine is running. G
WARNING
A discharged battery can freeze at temperatures below freezing point. When jump-starting the
vehicle or charging the battery, gases can escape from the battery. There is a risk of an explosion.
Allow the frozen battery to thaw out before charging it or jump-starting.
If the warning and indicator lamps do not light up on the instrument cluster when temperatures are low, it is probably because the discharged battery has frozen. In this case, you may neither jump-
start the vehicle nor charge the battery. The service life of a battery that has been thawed may be
reduced. The starting characteristics may be impaired, especially at low temperatures. Have the
thawed battery checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
All vehicles:
! Vehicles with a petrol engine:
avoid repeated and lengthy starting attempts. Otherwise, the
non-combusted fuel may damage the catalytic converter.
Do not use a rapid charging device to start the vehicle. If your vehicle's battery is discharged, the
engine can be jump-started from another vehicle or from a second battery using jump leads.
Observe the following points:
R The battery is not accessible in all vehicles. If the other vehicle's battery is not accessible, jump-
start the vehicle using a second battery or a jump-starting device.
R Vehicles with a petrol engine: jump-start the vehicle only when the engine and exhaust system
are cold.
R All vehicles except vehicles with a lithium-ion battery: do not start the engine if the battery
is frozen. Let the battery thaw first.
R Jump-starting may be performed only using batteries with a nominal voltage of 12 V.
R Use only jump leads that have a sufficient cross-section and insulated terminal clamps.
R If the battery is fully discharged, leave the battery that is being used to jump-start connected for
a few minutes before attempting to start. This charges the empty battery a little.
R Make sure that the two vehicles do not touch.
Make sure that:
R The jump leads are not damaged.
R Non-insulated parts of the terminal clamps do not come into contact with other metal parts while
the jump leads are connected to the battery.
R The jump leads cannot come into contact with parts that can move when the engine is running,
such as the V-belt pulley or the fan.
X Secure the vehicle by applying the electric parking brake.
X Shift the transmission to position P.
X Make sure that the ignition is switched off . All indicator lamps on the instrument cluster must be
off. When using the key, turn the key to position 0in the ignition lock and remove it (Y page 144).
X Switch off all electrical consumers, e.g. rear window heating, lighting etc.

Fuses
Important safety notes
G
WARNING
If you manipulate, bridge or replace a faulty
fuse with a fuse of a higher amperage, the
electric cables could be overloaded. This may result in a fire. There is a risk of an accident
and injury.
Always replace faulty fuses with specified new fuses of the correct amperage.
Blown fuses must be replaced with fuses of the same rating, which you can recognise by the
colour and fuse rating. The fuse ratings are listed
in the fuse allocation chart.
The fuse allocation chart is on the fuse box in the luggage compartment (Y page 355).
If the newly inserted fuse also blows, have the
cause traced and rectified at a qualified special-
ist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
! Only use fuses that have been approved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles and which have the
correct fuse rating for the system concerned.
Otherwise, components or systems could be
damaged.
! Make sure that no moisture can enter the
fuse box when the cover is open.
! When closing the cover, make sure that it is
lying correctly on the fuse box. Moisture seep-
ing in or dirt could otherwise impair the oper- ation of the fuses.
The fuses in your vehicle disconnect faulty cir-
cuits. If a fuse blows, all the components on the circuit and their functions will fail. Before replacing a fuse

For further information on displaying this mes-
sage, refer to the "Checking the tyre pressure
electronically" section (Y page 362).
Important safety notes It is the driver's responsibility to set the tyre
pressure to the recommended cold tyre pres-
sure suitable for the operating situation
(Y page 359). Note that the correct tyre pres-
sure for the current operating situation must
first be taught-in to the tyre pressure monitor. If
a substantial loss of pressure occurs, the warn- ing threshold for the warning message is aligned
to the taught-in reference values. Restart the
tyre pressure monitor after adjusting to the cold tyre pressure (Y page 363). The current pres-
sures are saved as new reference values. This
ensures that a warning message appears only if
the tyre pressure drops significantly.
The tyre pressure monitor does not warn you of
an incorrectly set tyre pressure. Observe the
notes on the recommended tyre pressure
(Y page 359).
The tyre pressure monitor is not able to warn
you of a sudden loss of pressure, e.g. if the tyre
is penetrated by a foreign object. In the event of
a sudden loss of air, bring the vehicle to a halt by braking carefully. Avoid abrupt steering
manoeuvres.
The tyre pressure monitor has a yellow warning
lamp on the instrument cluster for indicating a
pressure loss or malfunction. Depending on how
the warning lamp flashes or lights up, a tyre
pressure that is too low or a malfunction in the
tyre pressure monitor is indicated:
R If the warning lamp is lit continuously, the tyre
pressure on one or more tyres is significantly too low. The tyre pressure monitor is not mal-
functioning.
R If the warning lamp flashes for around a
minute and then remains lit constantly, the
tyre pressure monitor is malfunctioning.
In addition to the warning lamp, a message
appears on the multifunction display. Observe
the information on display messages
(Y page 273).
It may take up to ten minutes for a malfunction
of the tyre pressure monitor to be indicated. A
malfunction will be indicated by the tyre pres-
sure warning lamp flashing for approximately
one minute and then remaining lit. When the
fault has been rectified, the tyre pressure warn- ing lamp goes out after you have driven for a few
minutes.
The tyre pressure values indicated by the on-
board computer may differ from those meas-
ured at a filling station using a pressure gauge.
The tyre pressures shown by the on-board com- puter refer to those measured at sea level. At
high altitudes, the tyre pressure values indica-
ted by a pressure gauge are higher than those
shown by the on-board computer. In this case,
do not reduce the tyre pressures.
The operation of the tyre pressure monitor can
be affected by interference from radio transmit- ting equipment (e.g. cordless headphones, two-
way radios) that may be being operated in or
near the vehicle.
Checking the tyre pressure electroni-
cally X
Make sure that the key is in position 2in the
ignition lock (Y page 144).
X Press òon the steering wheel to call up
the menu list.

select the Service

tyre pressure of each wheel.
