X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. Setting climate control to automatic
mode
General notes In automatic mode, the set temperature is main-
tained automatically at a constant level. The
system automatically regulates the temperature of the dispensed air, the airflow and the air dis- tribution.
The automatic mode functions optimally when
the "Cooling with air dehumidification" function is activated. If desired, cooling with air dehu-
midification can be deactivated.
If you deactivate the "Cooling with air-dehumid-
ification" function, the air inside the vehicle will
not be cooled. The air inside the vehicle will also
not be dehumidified. The windows can mist up
more quickly. Therefore, only deactivate the
"Cooling with air-dehumidification" function
briefly.

General notes You can deactivate the flow of fresh air if
unpleasant odours are entering the vehicle from
outside. The air already inside the vehicle will
then be recirculated.
If you activate air-recirculation mode, the win-
dows can mist up more quickly, in particular at
low temperatures. Only use air-recirculation
mode briefly to prevent the windows misting up.

opened using the convenience opening feature. Pre-entry climate control via key
Before getting in, the vehicle interior can be
briefly warmed or ventilated in advance. In addi- tion, the air from the air vent can be pre-cooled.
The high-voltage battery must be sufficiently
charged before the "Pre-entry climate control
via key" function can be activated.
Activating/deactivating the pre-entry cli-
mate control (via key)
When the vehicle is unlocked using the key or
KEYLESS-GO, the climate control functions are
activated.
The pre-cooling and pre-heating climate control functions last up to 5 minutes.
When the vehicle is pre-cooled, the following
functions are activated as necessary:
R Automatic climate control
R Cooling with air dehumidification
R Blower When the vehicle is pre-heated, the following
functions are activated as necessary:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat heating
R Windscreen heating
R Rear window heating
Pre-entry climate control is automatically
switched off when operational readiness mode
is requested.
Activating/deactivating pre-entry climate
control (via key)
You can activate and deactivate the pre-entry
climate control (via key) function using the on-
board computer in the E-CELL
E-CELL submenu
(Y page 185).
i If the charge status of the high-voltage bat-
tery is below the specified minimum charge
status, pre-entry climate control will not be
activated even if it has been set. Pre-entry climate control at departure
time and immediate pre-entry climate control
Important safety notes G
WARNING
If persons (particularly children) are exposed
to heat or cold for a prolonged period, there is a risk of serious or even fatal injuries. Never
leave persons (particularly children) unatten-
ded in the vehicle.
General notes Using the "Pre-entry climate control at depar-
ture time" function, you can cool or heat the
vehicle interior prior to the desired departure
time.
When using the "Pre-entry climate control at
departure time" function, the charge status of
the high-voltage battery must be higher than the
specified minimum charge status.
The running time of the climate control may be
reduced if:
R the vehicle is not connected to an electric
power supply
R the high-voltage battery is not fully charged Operating the climate control system
121Climate control Z
With active "Pre-entry climate control at depar-
ture time" the charge status of the high-voltage
battery can be reduced, even if the charge cable connector is connected.
In certain situations, the desired interior tem-
perature cannot be reached.
When the vehicle is cooled, the following func-
tions are activated as necessary:
R Automatic climate control
R cooling with air dehumidification
R blower
When the vehicle is heated, the following func-
tions are activated as necessary:
R Automatic climate control
R Blower
R Seat heating
R Windscreen heating
R Rear window heating
"Immediate pre-entry climate control" is auto-
matically switched off when operational readi-
ness mode is requested.
Setting the departure time You can set a departure time for the "Pre-entry
climate control at departure time". Your vehicle
will then be cooled or heated until the desired
temperature is reached in time for the set depar-
ture time. "Pre-entry climate control at depar-
ture time" will be activated a maximum of
35 minutes before departure. If the departure is delayed, the vehicle will be heated or cooled fora further five minutes.
You can set the desired departure time in the E-
E-
CELL
CELL submenu on the on-board computer
(Y page 184).
Activating immediate pre-entry climate
control You can activate "Immediate pre-entry climate
control" even if the vehicle interior is already at
the desired temperature. This means, for exam- ple, that the vehicle interior continues to be
cooled or heated if the journey is interrupted for up to 50 minutes and the interior temperature iskept constant. You can only set the desired tem-
perature using the climate control unit. If you do not pre-select a temperature, the last tempera-
ture set will be automatically adopted. To activate/deactivate "Immediate pre-
entry climate control"
X Press button :in the centre console.
The blue or red indicator lamp in the button
lights up or goes out.
The colours of the indicator lamps in the button have the following meanings:
Red Heating activated
Blue Cooling activated
Yellow Pre-entry climate control at departure is preselected Switching the residual heat on/off
General notes It is possible to make use of the residual heat of
the engine to continue heating the vehicle for a
short period after the drive system has been
switched off. The heating time depends on the
set interior temperature.
i The blower will run at a low speed regardless
of the airflow setting.
i If you activate the residual heat function at
high temperatures, only the ventilation will be
activated. The blower runs at medium speed.
i You cannot use the ventilation to cool the
vehicle interior to a temperature lower than
the outside temperature. 122

Important safety notes
G
WARNING
Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air vents. This could result in burns or frostbite in the immediate vicinity of the air vents. There
is a risk of injury.
Make sure that all vehicle occupants always
maintain a sufficient distance to the air out-
lets. If necessary, redirect the airflow to
another area of the vehicle interior.
In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air vents into the vehicle interior,
please observe the following notes:
R keep the air inlet between the windscreen and
the bonnet free of blockages, such as ice,
snow or leaves
R never cover the vents or ventilation grilles in
the vehicle interior
i Optimal climate control function is achieved
by opening the air vents fully and setting the
adjusters to the middle position. Adjusting the centre air vents

Start/Stop button General notes
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO are equipped with
keys featuring an integrated KEYLESS-GO func- tion and a detachable Start/Stop button.
A check which periodically establishes a radio
connection between the vehicle and the key
determines whether a valid key is in the vehicle. This occurs, for example, when starting the drivesystem.
When you insert the Start/Stop button into the
ignition lock, the system needs approximately
two seconds recognition time. You can then use the Start/Stop button.
Pressing the Start/Stop button several times in
succession corresponds to the different key positions in the ignition lock. This is only the
case if you are not depressing the brake pedal.
If you depress the brake pedal and press the
Start/Stop button, the drive system starts
immediately.
To start the vehicle without actively using the
key:
R the Start/Stop button must be inserted in the
ignition lock
R the key must be in the vehicle
R the vehicle must not be locked with the key or
KEYLESS-GO (Y page 72)
Do not keep the KEYLESS-GO key:
R with electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phone
or another key
R with metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal film
R inside metallic objects, e.g. a metal case
This can affect the functionality of KEYLESS-GO.
If you lock the vehicle with the key's remote
control or with KEYLESS-GO, after a short time:
R you will not be able to switch on the ignition
with the Start/Stop button
R you will not be able to start the drive system
with the Start/Stop button until the vehicle is
unlocked again
If you lock the vehicle centrally using the button
on the front door (Y page 79), you can continue
to start the drive system with the Start/Stop
button.
The drive system can be switched off while the
vehicle is in motion by pressing and holding the
Start/Stop button for three seconds.
