-
The II (USA models) a (Cana da models) indi ­
cator light monito rs the safety systems (e .g . air ­
bags, pretensione rs) and illuminates for a few
seconds each time you switch t he ignition on.
If t h e II (U SA mode ls) a (Canad a models) in­
d icator light does not go out, or if it i llum inates
while you are driving, or if it starts to blink, then
there is a malfunction somewhe re in the system.
I f the light does not ill uminate when you switch
the igni tion on, this also means there is a mal­
function .
A WARNING
If you have a mal func tion in the safety sys­
t ems, contact your authorized A udi dealer im­
media tely. Othe rwise the safety system s may
no t w or k properly in an a cci den t.

ill Tire pressure monitoring system -
telltale indicator lamp
Applies to vehicles: with tire pressure monitoring system
The warning/indicator light appears in the event
of a signifi cant loss of tire pressure or if there is
a malfunction.
The ind icator light RI] illumi nates to check the
func tion when yo u sw itch on t he ign it io n.
If the
RI] symbo l rema ins on or blinks after you
switch on the ignition, the re is a loss of tire pres­
su re or a system ma lfunction .
If there is a system
malfunction, see your author ized Audi dealer as
soon as possib le.

¢¢Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left B or the right R
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks . When you
use the eme rgency flashers, bot h in d icator lights
flash .
If one of the turn signa l ligh t bulbs burn out, the
turn s ignal will b link twice as fast as normal.
This does not apply, however, in towing mode.
The ind icator light does not flash if a turn signa l
i s out on the tra iler or the towing veh icle. Add i­

¢1.~ Trailer turn signal assembly
Applies to vehicles: with towing hitch
The indicator light also blinks if the turn signal is
operated when towing a trailer .
The indicator light . blinks when the t urn s ig ­
nal is used, if a trai ler has been properly co nnect­
ed to the ve hicle .
If one of the tu rn signa l bulbs on the t railer is
burned out or defective, the ind icator light will
not blink when you use the turn signa ls.

@ Tips
For vehicles with a factory installed towing
hitch or a trailer hitch that was installed later
according to factory specifications, the trailer
turn signal assembly is actuated.
~ Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to put
on your safety belt.
The . warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on to remind the driver
and (on USA models only) any front passenger to
put on the safety belt. Additionally, an audible
warning tone will also sound .

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part of
the On -Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system . The
symbol ¢4 lights up when the ignition is turned
on and w ill turn off after the engine has started
and has settled at a constant idle speed. This in­
dicates that the MIL is working properly .
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer and have the
mal funct ion corrected.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate (only vehicles
with gasoline engine)

The . warning/ind icator light illuminates when
the high beams are on or when you use the head­
light flasher. For more info rmation about using

Instruments and indicator lights
CRUISE/•(-) Cruise control
The (~jll)~i* (USA models) ;Bl (Canada models)
warning/ind icator light illuminates when the
cruise control is activated.
ABS/{ @) Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL).
The~ (USA models) !(iJ (Canada mode ls)
warning/indicator light will come on for a few
seconds when the ignition is switched on. The
light will go out after an automatic check se­
quence is comp leted .
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
-The warning/indicator light does not illum inate
when you sw itch on the ignit ion.
- The warning/indicator light does not go out af­
ter a few seconds.
- The warning/ indicator light illum inates while
driving .
The brake system will still respond even with·
out the assistance of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re­
store full braking performance.

The ABS warning light and the brake warning
light come on together . The ABS will not work
and you will notice a change in braking re­
sponse and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake warning light¢ page 18 and the
ABS warning illum inate
together there may be a
malfunction in the ABS, and there may also be a
malfunction in the brake system itself~ ,&..
In the event of a
malfunction in the brake sys ­
tem
the warning/ind icator light 1111 (USA mod­
els)/ . (Canada mode ls) in the instrument clus­
ter flashes. By press ing the
!SE TI button, you can
bring up a dr iver message which exp lains the

cooling system -you could damage your en­
gine.
9=:;r: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en­
g ine oil pressure is too low. A driver message ap­
pears as well to explain the malfunction in more
deta il. The dr iver warning goes out after about 5
seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by
p ress ing the
ISETI but to n again.
Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
• Stop the vehicle .
• Turn the eng ine off .
• Check the eng ine oil level

If the engine o il level is too low, add engine oi l

Engine oil level correct
If the symbol . flashes even though the engine
oil level is correct, please contact your nearest
authorized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue driving . Do not leave the engine running
idle, either.
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

locked.

Your vehicle must not be towed in the event
of a malfunction in the electronic steering co l­

When the II symbol illum inates, you can alte r
your driving style to assist the fi lter self-clean ing
process . Drive for approximately 15 minu tes wi th
the selector lever in the S position at a minimum
speed of 37 mph (60 km/h) and an engine speed
of approximately 2,000 RPM. The temperature
increase that will result from this can burn off
the soot in the fi lter. The symbol will sw itch off
when the clean ing is successful. After a success­
ful cleaning, there is no need to b ring the car to
an author ized deal er or qualified wo rkshop be­
cause this is part of normal ve hicle operation.

have the problem corrected.

-Always ensure that no one is with in range of
the rear lid when it is mov ing, in particular
close to the hinges and the upper and lower
edges - f ingers or hands can be pinched.
- To help prevent po isonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, a lways keep
the rear lid closed wh ile driving . Never
transport objects large r than those wh ich fit
compl etely into the luggage area , because
then the rea r lid cannot be fully closed .
- Never leav e your vehicle unattended espe­
c ially w ith the rear lid left open. A ch ild
c ou ld craw l in to the car through t he luggage
c ompartment and pull the lid s hut, becom­
ing t rapped and unable to get ou t. To red uce
the risk of perso nal in jury, never let children
play i n or around your veh icle . Always keep
the rear lid as well as the vehicle doors
closed when not in use.
- If there is a luggage rack or bicycle rack
mounted on the rear lid, it may not be able
to open completely or an ope ned rear lid
may close by itse lf because of the added
we ight. So the open rear lid must be sup­
ported or the weight m ust be removed from
the luggage ra ck fi rst .

- As soon as the electrical connection to the
tra ile r socket is completed on veh icles with
a f actory insta lled towing hitch, o r a trailer
hitch that was insta lled later acco rding to
fac tory spe cifi ca tions , th e au tomat ic rear li d
fu nct ion can only be operate d via the hand le
in the rea r lid .
- If th e vehicle battery charge drops below a
certain level, yo u can sti ll open or close the
r ear lid manua lly, however, you w ill need to
apply more force to close it.
- If the rear lid on a locked vehicle is un locked
with the middle button
,c:$ on the remote
key, the rear lid is automatically locked
again immediately after closing. This is indi­
cated by the turn s ignals bli nking.
- The f ollowing applies to veh icles equipped
with the Conve nience key" feature: if the re ­
mote control key is left in the luggage com­
partment, luggage compartment will auto-

matically unlock itse lf after yo u loc k the ve ­
hicle. This prevents you from unintentional·
Ly locking yo ur key in the luggage compart ­

Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever on the le~ side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

The turn s ignal and high beam lever has the fol·
lowing functions:

• Lift the lever up all the way o fig. 50 (D to use
the right turn s ignals, or push the lever down
all the way @to use the left turn signals .

• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance to use the turn signals for as long as
you need them, for example when changing
lanes.
• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance and then release it right away to
make the turn signals blink
three times. You
can use this feature for example when changing
lanes on highways.
High beam gD
• Push the lever forward @ to switch on the high
beam.
• Pull the lever back towards you to switch off
the high beam.
Headlight flasher ~D
• Pull the lever toward the steering wheel@ to
use the head light flasher .
