Attach the roof rack only at the attachment
points on the roof railing. On the inside of the
roof railing there are two holes for attaching the
rear end of the roof rack. To prevent confusing
the front and rear roof rack attachments, there are three holes on the left and two holes on the
right for mounting the front part of the roof rack
q fig. 81.
The roof racks have a sticker on the left side un­
derneath to identify front and rear.
A WARNING
When installing the roof rack, make sure the
st icker is on the left side of the vehicle and
faces the stamped arrow in the drive direc­
tion.

The roof rack set consists of a front and rear roof
rack, the cover profi le and a socket wrench .
• Open the cap
(D q fig . 83 .
• Before mounting the roof rack, use the socket
wrench @and loosen the left and right screw
in the direction of@ .
Seats and storage
• Clean the attachment points on the roof railing
as well as the roof rack rubber washers @.
• Carefully place the roof rack over the holes in
the roof railing

• Place the pins @ into the holes. The claw ®
must engage into the edge of the roof railing .
"' Make sure the rubber washer@ lays flat on the
roof railing .
"' Tighten the left and right screws using the
socket wrench @ in direct ion @.
"' To reach the
4 ft lb (6 Nm) tightening specifi­
cation needed, both arrows on the socket
wrench must align.
"' Repeat this procedure on the second roof rack.
A WARNING
Check all the roof rack connections each time
before each trip and re-tighten or re-adjust if
necessary. If you are going to be driving or
rough terrain, you will have to check the at­
tachments more often. If you do not do this,
the risk of you r luggage coming loose and
falling off is greater.
(D Note
The pins and the roof rack claws must engage
securely into the holes and into the edge of
the roof railing when you tighten the screws!
(0 Tips
You can adjust the width of the roof rack by
using a hexagon wrench and turning the
screws on the top. Let you r authorized Audi
dealer help you with this.

@ Vehicles that ar e approaching
In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane chang e even if it is still some­
what far away . The faster a vehicle approa ches,
the sooner the d isplay i n the exter io r mir ro r will
turn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you a re indicated in the
exte rior m irror if they ar e classified as cr itical fo r
a lane change. All vehi cles detected by side assist
Aud i side assist
are indica ted by the time they en ter your "blind
spot ", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you s low ly pas s a vehi cle that s ide ass ist has
de tec ted ( the di fference in speed between the ve ­
hicle an d you r vehi cle is less than 9 m ph o r
15 km/ h), the display in the exterio r mirror tu rns
o n as soo n as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
T he disp lay will not t urn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle th at side ass ist has de te cte d (t he differ­
ence in speed between the vehicle and you r vehi ­
cle is greater than 9 mph or 15 km/h).
Functional limitations
The radar senso rs are designed to detec t the left
and right adj ac ent lanes whe n the road lanes are
the norma l width . In cer tain s ituations, the dis­
play in the exterior mirror may turn on even
though there is no vehicle located in the area that
is cr itica l for a lane change . For example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are dr iving on
the edge of yo ur lane. If t his is the case, the
system may have detected the vehicle in anoth­
er lane that is
not adjacent to your current lane .
- if you a re dr ivi ng throug h a c urve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane over from
the adjacent lane.
- if side assist reacts to othe r objects (such as
high or disp laced guard rails).
- In poor weather conditions . The side assist
fu nctions are limited.

wash operator to reduce the risk of acci­
dents.
- To reduce the risk of cuts, protect yourself
from sharp metal components when wash­
ing the underbody or the inside of the wheel
housings.
- After washing the vehicle, the braking effect
may be delayed due to moisture on the
brake rotors or ice in the w inter. The brakes
must be dried first w ith a few careful brake
applications.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior m irrors in
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Power folding exterior mirrors* must only
be fo lded in and out us ing the power folding
funct ion.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the rims
and tires, compare the width between the
whee ls on your vehicle w ith the distance be­
tween the g uide rails in the car wash .
- To red uce the risk of damage, compare the
height and width of yo ur vehicle with the

- T o prevent paint damage, do not wash the
vehicle in direct sunlight.
- To reduce the ris k of damage to the sur face,
do not use insect remov ing sponges, kitchen

- Matte finish painted veh icle components:
- To reduce the risk of damage to the sur-
face, do not use polishing agents or hard
wax.
- Never use protective wax. It can destroy
the matte finish effect.
- Do not place any stickers or magnetic
signs on vehicle parts painted w ith matte
finish paint. The paint could be damaged
when the stickers or magnets are re­ moved.
@ For the sake of the environment
Only wash the vehicle in facilities spec ially de­
s igned for that purpose. Th is w ill reduce the
r isk of dirty water contaminated w ith oil from
entering the sewe r system.

Wheels
A WARNING
Wheel bolts that are tightened or repaired in­
correctly can become loose and resu lt in loss
of vehicle control , which increases the risk of
an acc ident. For the correct tightening specifi­
cat ion, refer to
c:> page 261, After changing a
wheel.
- Always keep the wheel bolts and the threads
in the wheel hub clean and free of grease.
- Only use wheel bo lts that fit the r im .
- Always have damaged rims repaired by an
authorized Aud i dealer or authorized repair
facility. Never repair or disassemble rims
you rself, because this increases the risk of
an accident.
Winter tires
W inter tires sign ificantly improve the vehicle's
handling when driving in w inter condit ions . Be­
cause of the ir construction (width, compo und,
tread pattern), summer t ires prov ide less traction
on ice and snow.

.., Only use winter t ires that are approved for your
vehicle.
.., Please note that the maximum permitted
speed may be lower with winter tires

The effectiveness of winter tires is reduced great­
ly when the tread is worn down to a depth of
0 .1S7 inch (4 mm). The characteristics of w inter
tires also decrease greatly as the tire ages, re ­
gardless of the remaining tread.
A WARNING
-Never dr ive faste r than the maximum per­
mitted speed for your t ires. This could cause
the tires to heat up too much . Th is increases
the risk of an accident because it can cause
the tire to burst .

-Always adapt your driving to the road and
traffic cond itions. Drive carefully and reduce
your speed on icy or slippery roads. Even
w inter t ires can lose traction on black ice.
@ For the sake of the environment
Reinstall summer tires at the appropriate
time, beca use they provide better handling
when roads are free of snow and ice. Summer
tires cause less road noise, tire wear and fuel
consumpt ion.

You can a lso use all season tires instead of
winter tires. Please note that in some coun­
tries where w inter t ires are required, only win­
ter tires with the
& symbol may be permit­
ted.
· Snow chains
Snow chains improve traction in the snow .
.., Only install snow chains on the rear wheels .
.., Check and correct the seating of the snow
chains if necessary after driving a few feet. Fol­
low the instruct ions from the manufacture r.
.., Note the maximum permitted speed when dr iv­
ing w ith snow chains . Do not exceed 30 mph
(SO km/h) .
Snow cha ins not onl y improve the
driving in w in­
ter road conditions , but also the
braking .
Use of snow chains is only permitted with certain
rim/tire combinations due to technical reasons .
Check with a n author ized Audi dealer or author­
iz ed repair facility to see if you may use snow
c hains.
Use
fine-mesh snow chains. They must not add
more than 0.53 inch (13.5 mm) in he ight, includ­
i ng the cha in lock.
You must remove the chains when driving on
roads that are
free of snow. When roads are free
of snow , snow cha ins can impair hand ling and
damage the tires, and the chains will quick ly be
