EPC Electronic power control
App lies to vehicles: with gaso line engine
This warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tronic power control .
The Ga warning/indicator light (Electronic Power
Control) illuminates when you turn on the igni­
tion as a function check.

If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a malfunc-

function corrected as soon as possible by your
authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop.
W Glow plug system
Applies to vehicles: wit h diese l eng ine
The control light illuminates when the glow plug
system is active.
If the II indicator light illuminates, the glow
plug system is active. You should start the engine
immediately after the indicator light switches off.
The indicator light only illuminates for approxi­ mately 1 second if the engine is warm or if the
outside temperature is above 46 QF (8 Q().
(D Tips
-If the glow plug indicator light illuminates
while driving, there is an engine control
malfunction. The engine should be checked
immediately.
- If the indicator light does not illuminate at
all when switching the ignition on, there
may be a malfunction in the glow plug sys­
tem. The engine should be checked.
;;.ll/4 Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the Bl indicator light blinks while driving, the
ESC or ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) is actively regu­
lating.
If the
Bl indicator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In this case, you can switch
the ignition off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light turns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fully.
If the. indicator light turns on, ESC was re­
stricted using the
!.P-O FF I button c> page 191.
Stabilization control (ESC/ABS): Fault! See

If the Bl indicator light and the ABS indicator
light
LtB (USA models) 1iJ (Canada models)
turn on and the message appears, the ABS or
electronic differential lock is malfunctioning . This

Malfunction in th e electronic diffe rential
lock (EDL )
The EDL works together with the ABS . The ABS
warning light wi ll come on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the EDL system

A WARNING
- If the Lil3 (USA models) ;[IJ (Canada mod ­
els) warning light does not go out , or if it
comes on while d riving, the ABS system is
not working properly. The vehicle can the n
be stopped only with the standard brakes
(without ABS) . You wi ll not have the protec­
tion ABS p rovides . Contact your authorized
Audi dealer as soon as possible .
- If the
1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light t urns on to ­
gether wit h the ABS and ESC indicator
lights , the ABS/ESC regulating function may
have failed. Funct ions that stab ilize the ve­
hicle are no longer availab le. This could
cause the vehicle to swerve and increase the
risk of sliding . Driv e ca refully to the nea rest
autho rized Aud i dealer o r othe r qualified
wor kshop and have the malfunction correc t­
ed.

The warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
trome chanical parking brake.
W ith the parking brake applied and the ign it ion
turned on, the. (USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) warning/indicator light illuminates.
Afte r the ig nitio n has been turned off , the warn­
ing/indicator light continues to illum inate fo r
about 30 seconds . If the parking brake is applied
w ith the ignition t urned off, the warning/indica­
tor light illuminates for abo ut 30 seconds.
The warning/indicator ligh t will go o ut when t he
parking brake is re leased .

If the war ning/ indicato r light flashes cont inuous­
ly
after applying the p ark ing brake , brak ing fo rce
is no t sufficient to prevent the vehicle from roll­
ing unintentiona lly . Please note the following:

- I f the slope of the ground is too steep to pa rk
the vehicle, the add itiona l driv e message ap ­
pears

- In the event of a pa rking brake malfunction ,
the yellow
Ill symbol appears in the instru­
ment cluster display and the driver message
Pa rk ing brake malfunction! is displayed. Have

workshop .
BRAKE/C(D) Brake system
The warning/indicator light flashes if brake fluid
level is low, if there is an ABS system malfunc­
tion or a parking brake malfunction .
The 1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
l ight illum inates when the ignition is turned on .
It goes out after the engine has been started.
This ind icates that the brake warn ing light is
fun ct io ni ng properly.
If th e brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
malfunction in the electrical system. In this
case, conta ct an authorized Audi dealer .
If the brake system warning/indicator light flash­
es, there is a brake system malfunction . By press­
i ng the
IS ET I button , you can b ring up a dr iver
message wh ich explains the malfunction in mo re

Do not continue driving if the. symbo l ill u­
m inates. There is a malfunct ion in the engine
cooling system -you could damage your en­
gine.
9=:;r: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en­
g ine oil pressure is too low. A driver message ap­
pears as well to explain the malfunction in more
deta il. The dr iver warning goes out after about 5
seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by
p ress ing the
ISETI but to n again.
Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
• Stop the vehicle .
• Turn the eng ine off .
• Check the eng ine oil level

If the engine o il level is too low, add engine oi l

Engine oil level correct
If the symbol . flashes even though the engine
oil level is correct, please contact your nearest
authorized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue driving . Do not leave the engine running
idle, either.
(D Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

out delay. Do not wait until the red oil

ing column lock, the steering cannot be un­
locked.

A WARNING
Your vehicle must not be towed in the event
of a malfunction in the electronic steering co l­
umn lock because it cannot be steered due to
the locked steering. If it is towed with the
steering locked, there is the risk of an acci­
dent.
© -Ignition lock malfunct ion
A malfunction in the ignition lock must be re­
paired immediately.
If the . symbo l in the display blinks, there is a
malfunction in the electronic ignition lock. A driv ­
er message appears as well to explai n the mal­
funct ion in more deta il. The driver warning goes
out after about 5 seconds, but it can be brought
up at any time by pressing the
ISETI button again.

l ock, the ignition cannot be turned off . Drive im­
mediately to an authorized service facility to have
the cause of the ma lfunction corrected.
On vehicles with Convenience key*, the engine
should not be switched off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched off.

Driv ing
Diesel vehicles * are preheated while the ignition
is switched on.
When sta rting the engine, major electrical loads
are swi tched off temporarily .
If the engine should not start immediately, the
sta rting process is au tomatically s topped afte r a
sho rt time. Repeat s tarting p roced ure.

-If you leave the vehicle with the ignit ion
switched on, the ignition will switc h off af­
ter a certa in period of time. P lease note that

will switch off as well when that happens.

Stee ring lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine off
using the
!START ENGINE STOP I button and open
the dr iver's door. The locked steering helps pre­
vent vehicle theft.
Emergen cy off
If necessary, the eng ine can be sw itched off with
the selector lever in the R or D/S position . The en­
g ine stops if you press and hold the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button at speeds below
6 mph ( 10 km/h) a nd p ress the brake pedal.
..&, WARNING
- Never turn off the engine be fore the ve hicle
has come to a comp lete stop. The fu ll func­
tion of the b rake booster and the power
stee ring is not guaranteed. Yo u must use
more force to turn or bra ke i f necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually wou ld, this could lead to crashes
and serious injur ies.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your vehicle with the selector lever in P. Oth­
erwise , the vehicle could inadver tently roll
away.
- The rad iator fan ca n continue to run for up
to 10 m inutes eve n after you have turned
off the engine a nd removed the ignition key.
T he ra diato r fan ca n also turn on aga in if the
engi ne coola nt he ats up becau se of intense
s u nligh t or heat bui ld-up in the engine com­
partment.

such as the power windows could be operat­

sistance unattended in the vehicle. The

m itter, prevent ing people from escaping
from the vehicle on the ir own in the event of

i en ce key* if the mas ter key is removed from the
ve hicl e with the eng ine running.
If th e maste r
key is no longer in the vehicle, you c annot sw itch
on the i gnition after s topping the engine and you
also ca nnot start the engine again . Moreover, you
cannot lock the veh icle from the o utside with the
key .
