zIf the warning display appears, refuel assoon as possible.If the vehicle is runs out of fuel, theengine will not start even in a situationneed to be generated electricity, the fol-lowing conditions will occur.•The driving performance falls (sinceonly the electrical power stored in thedrive battery can be used for the driv-ing).•The heating performance cannot beavailable (except vehicles with electricheater).•The effectiveness of the heater is insuffi-cient (vehicles with electric heater).•The catalytic converter may be damageddue to excessive high temperature.

zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning.In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc.zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery.zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following:zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.

your vehicle, the fuel in the fuel tank maynot be used for a long time and stay in thetank, resulting in deterioration of the fuelquality. As this may af
fect the engine and
fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).
zIf refueling of the above
amount is not possi-
ble due to a high fuel level because the vehi-cle has not been used for a long time or forsome other reason, consult a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
Drive battery

When performing inspection and mainte-nance, be careful in the following points.
zIn the event of an accident that requiresbody repair and painting, the vehicleshould be delivered to a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point tohave the drive battery and high voltageparts such as the inverter, including theattached wiring harness, removed prior topainting. If exposed to heat in the paintbooth, the drive battery will experiencebattery capacity loss.A damaged drive battery can also posesafety risks to untr
ained mechanics and
repair personnel.NOTE
zThe emergency shut-off system will be acti-vated and the high-voltage system will auto-matically turn off under the followingconditions:•Certain front, side or rear collisions.•Certain Plug-in Hybrid EV system mal-functions.

WA R N I N GzThe Plug-in Hybrid EV System uses highvoltage up to DC 300 volt. The system canbe hot during and after starting and whenthe vehicle is shut off. Be careful of boththe high voltage and
the high temperature.
Follow the warning labels that areattached to the vehicle.zAlways assume the
high voltage battery
and associated components are energizedand fully charged.zNever perform servicing when READYindicator is illuminating or when thecharging indicator is

ing because the high-voltage system isoperating.
For persons with electro-medi-cal apparatus such as implanta-ble cardiac pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defi-brillator

Filling the fuel tank
WA R N I N GzWhen handling fuel, comply with thesafety regulations displayed by garagesand filling stations.zGasoline is highly flammable and explo-sive. You could be burned or seriouslyinjured when handling it. When refuelingyour vehicle, always
put the operation
mode of the power switch in OFF andkeep away from flames, sparks, and smok-ing materials. Always handle fuel in well-ventilated outdoor areas.zBefore removing the fuel cap, be sure toget rid of your body’s static electricity bytouching a metal part of the car or fuelpump. Any static electricity on your bodycould create a spark that ignites fuelvapor.
zPerform the whole refueling process(opening the fuel tank filler door, remov-ing the fuel cap, etc.) by yourself. Do notlet any other person come near the fueltank filler. If you allowed a person to helpyou and that person was carrying staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited.zDo not perform chargi
ng and refueling at
the same time. If you charged with staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited bythe discharge spark.zDo not move away from the fuel tank filleruntil refueling is finished. If you movedaway and did something else (for example,sitting on a seat) part-way through therefueling process, you could pick up afresh charge of st
atic electricity.
zBe careful not to inhale fuel vapor. Fuelcontains toxic substances.zKeep the doors and windows closed whilerefueling the vehicle. If they were open,fuel vapor could get into the cabin.zIf the tank cap must be replaced, use onlya MITSUBIHI MOTORS original part.WA R N I N G

zDo not charge when the EV chargingcable is coiled up.Doing so the cable may be heated andresulting in a fire.zBefore charging, make sure that there isno foreign matter such as dust at the nor-mal charge port and the normal chargeconnector.At this time, do not touch the normalcharge port.zWhen foreign substances, such as dust,have entered, please contact a MITSUBI-SHI MOTORS Authorised Service Point.zWhen the normal charge connector is con-nected to the charge port, prevent foreignmatter such as water or dust from enter-ing in the connection.Connection with foreign matter such aswater or dust may cause a fire or an elec-tric shock. Do not perform charging ifthere is possibility of strong exposure towater at the connection.zWhen you deal with
charge apparatus, be
careful of the following points. It couldcause a fire, an electric shock and a shortcircuit.•Never pull the cable to remove the plug.•Never submerge the EV charging con-nector, control box, or plug in water.
