Brake pad wear alarm

The disc brakes have an alarm that makes a metallic squeal
when the brake pads have worn down enough to need service.
If you hear this sound, have the brake pads replaced at an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice.
Hill start assist
(if so equipped)

The hill start assist makes it easy to start off on a steep uphill
slope by preventing the vehicle from moving backwards. It
keeps the braking force for about 2 second when you move
your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal.
WA R N I N G
!
Driving with worn brake pads will make it harder to
stop, and can cause an accident.
CAUTION
!
Do not overly rely on the hill start assist to prevent
backwards movement of the vehicle. Under certain
circumstances, even when hill start assist is acti-
vated, the vehicle may move backwards if the brake
pedal is not sufficiently depressed, if the vehicle is
heavily loaded, or if the road is very steep or slip-
pery.
The hill start assist is not designed to keep the vehi-
cle stopped in place on uphill slopes for more than 2
seconds.
When facing uphill, do not rely on using the hill
start assist to maintain a stopped position as an
alternative to depressing the brake pedal.
Doing so could cause an accident.
Do not perform the following operation while the
hill start assist is operating.
[Except for vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key]
Turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” or “ACC”
position.
[Vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key]
Put the operation mode in OFF or ACC. The hill
start assist could stop operating, which could result
in an accident.

Anti-lock braking system warning light

If there is a malfunction in the system, the anti-lock braking
system warning light will come on.
Under normal conditions, the ABS warning light comes on
when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the
operation mode is put in ON and goes off a few seconds later.
CAUTION
!
Any of the following indicates that the anti-lock
braking system is not functioning and only the stan-
dard brake system is working. (The standard brake
system is functioning normally.) If this happens,
take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
• When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON”
position or the operation mode is put in ON, the
warning light does not come on or it remains on
and does not go off.• The warning light comes on while driving

3 Electric power steering system (EPS)

The power steering system operates while the engine is run-
ning. It helps reduce the effort needed to turn the steering
wheel.
The power steering system has mechanical steering capability
in case the power assist is lost. If the power assist is lost for
some reason, you will still be able to steer your vehicle, but
you will notice it takes much more effort to steer. If this hap-
pens, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.NOTE
During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel
(for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into
a parking space), a protection function may be activated to
prevent overheating of the power steering system. This
function will make the steering wheel gradually harder to
turn. In this event, limit your turning of the steering wheel
for a while. When the system has cooled down, the steer-
ing effort will return to normal.

If you turn the steering wheel while the vehicle is station-
ary with the headlights on, the headlights may become
dim. This behavior is not abnormal. The headlights will
return to their original brightness after a short while.
Electric power steering system warning lightIf there is a malfunction in the system, the warning light will
come on.
Under normal conditions, the warning lamp comes on when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation
mode is put in ON, and goes off after the engine has started.
WA R N I N G
!
Do not stop the engine while the vehicle is moving.
Stopping the engine would make the steering wheel
extremely hard to turn, possibly resulting in an acci-
dent.
CAUTION
!
If the warning light appears while the engine is run-
ning, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to
turn the steering wheel.

Traction control function

On slippery surfaces, the traction control function prevents the
drive wheels from spinning excessive, thus helping the vehicle
to start moving from a stopped condition. It also provides suffi-
cient driving force and steering performance as the vehicle
turns while pressing the acceleration pedal.Skid control function

The skid control function is designed to help the driver main-
tain control of the vehicle on slippery roads or during rapid
steering maneuvers. It works by controlling the engine output
and the brake on each wheel.NOTE
The skid control function operates at speeds of about 9
mph (15 km/h) or higher.
ASC OFF switch

The ASC is automatically activated when the ignition switch is
turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in
ON. You can deactivate the system by pressing down the “ASC
OFF” switch for 3 seconds or longer.
When the ASC is deactivated, the indicator will turn on. To
reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the “ASC OFF” switch;
the indicator is turned off.
CAUTION
!
When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy road, be
sure to install snow tires and drive the vehicle at
moderate speeds.

NOTE
You can adjust to 8 different levels for when the parking
lights or headlights are illuminated and 8 for when they
are not.
Each time you reduce two brightness levels, the segment
display of the brightness level decreases one by one.

If you press and hold the switch for longer than about 1
second, the brightness automatically scrolls through its
different levels, and stops scrolling when you release the
switch. Select your desired level of brightness.

The brightness level of the instruments is stored when the
ignition switch is turned to the “OFF” position or the
operation mode is put in OFF.
Driving range display

This displays the approximate driving range (how many more
miles or kilometers you can drive). When the driving range
falls below approximately 30 miles (50 km), “---” is displayed.NOTE
The driving range is determined based on the fuel con-
sumption data. This may vary depending on the driving
conditions and habits. Treat the distance displayed as just
a rough guideline.

When you refuel, the driving range display is updated.
However, if you only add a small amount of fuel, the cor-
rect value will not be displayed. Fill to a full tank when-
ever possible.

When your vehicle is stopped on an extremely steep hill,
the driving range value may, change. This is due to the
movement of fuel in the tank and does not indicate any
breakdown.

The display setting can be changed to the preferred units
(miles or km).
Refer to “Changing the function settings” on page 3-105.

Average fuel consumption display

This displays the average fuel consumption from the last reset
to the present.
The reset mode conditions for the average fuel consumption
display can be switched between “Auto reset” and “Manual
reset”.
For information on how to change the average fuel consump-
tion display setting, refer to “Changing the function settings”
on page 3-105.NOTE
The average fuel consumption display can be reset sepa-
rately in both auto reset mode and manual reset mode.

“---” is displayed when the average fuel consumption can-
not be measured.

The initial (default) setting is “Auto reset mode”.

Average fuel consumption may vary depend on the driv-
ing conditions (road conditions, how you drive, etc.).
The actual fuel consumption may differ from the fuel con-
sumption displayed, so treat the fuel consumption dis-
played as just a rough guideline.

Disconnecting the battery cable will erase from memory
the manual reset mode or auto reset mode setting for the
average fuel consumption display.

The display setting can be changed to the preferred units
{mpg, km/L, L/100 km}.
Refer to “Changing the function settings” on page 3-105.
Fuel remaining display

The fuel remaining display indicates the fuel level in the fuel
tank when the ignition switch or the operation mode in ON.NOTE
It may take several seconds to stabilize the display after
refilling the tank.

If fuel is added with the ignition switch or the operation
mode in ON, the remaining fuel display may incorrectly
indicate the fuel level.

The fuel lid mark (A) indicates that the fuel tank filler
door is located on the left side of the vehicle. (Refer to
“Filling the fuel tank” on page 1-4.)1- Full

Fuel remaining warning displayWhen the remaining fuel level runs low (one segment is dis-
played), the last segment of the fuel gauge flashes when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation
mode is changed to ON.
When the remaining fuel level very runs low (no segments dis-
played), “ ” and the bar graph flash.
If the warning display appears, refuel as soon as possible.NOTE
On hills or curves, the display may be incorrect due to the
movement of fuel in the tank.
Service reminder

Displays the approximate time until the next recommended
periodic inspection. “---” is displayed when the inspection time
has arrived.NOTE
The service reminder time can be modified by an autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer, to adjust for severe usage,
etc. Refer to “Severe maintenance schedule” in your vehi-
cle’s Warranty and Maintenance Manual. For further
information, please contact your authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer.

1. When you lightly press the multi-information display
switch a few times, the information display switches to
the service reminder display.2. Press and hold the multi-information display switch for
about 1 second or more to make the spanner mark start
flashing. (If there is no operation for about 10 seconds
with flashing, the display will revert to its original indica-
tion.)
3. With this indicator flashing, if you lightly press the multi-
information meter switch, the display switches from “---”
to “cLEAr”. After that, the time until the next periodic
