While carrying the F.A.S.T.-key within the operating range, you can unlock the doorsand the rear hatch by F.A.S.T.-key operation. The dome light will turn on for 30 seconds. The turn signal lights will blink twice and thebuzzer will sound twice. Also refer to “Door locks”, “Power door locks” and “Rear hatch” on pages 5-36, 5-38 and 5-40 respectively. Press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) to unlock only the driver’s door.Within about 2 seconds, press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) one more time to unlock all the doors and rear hatch.
Press the front passenger’s door lock/unlock switch (B), or the rear hatch OPEN switch(C) to unlock all the doors and the rear hatch.

NOTE
 Settings can be changed so that all doors and rear hatch are unlocked automatically by pressing the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) once. Refer to “Setting of door and rear hatchunlock function” on page 5-32.NOTE
 If the doors and the rear hatch are unlocked when all doors and the rear hatch are locked and no doors or the rear hatch are opened within about 30 seconds, the doors and therear hatch will automatically re-lock.Front passenger’s door lock/unlock switch

 The amount of time after unlocking until the vehicle re-locks automatically can be adjusted. See an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for details.  In cases such as the following, the F.A.S.T.- key does not operate. • A door or the rear hatch is open or ajar • The ignition switch is in a position other than “LOCK” • The emergency key is inserted into the igni- tion switch
 The doors and the rear hatch cannot be unlocked by using the rear hatch OPEN switch for about 3 seconds after locking.  The time within which locking confirmation is possible can be adjusted. Your vehicle is equipped with an electroni- cally controlled fuel injection system. This isa system that automatically controls fuel injection. There is no need to depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.The starter motor should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drain, wait a few secondsbetween attempts to restart the engine.
1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened. 2. Make sure the parking brake is applied. 3. Press and hold the brake pedal down withyour right foot. 4. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way down (manual transaxle).
5. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. On vehicles equipped with continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST, make sure the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin ClutchSST) is in the “P” (PARK) position. 6. While pushing the ignition switch from “LOCK” (PUSH OFF) to “LOCK” (PUSH ON), set the ignition switch to the “ON” position and confirm that all warn-ing lights and warning displays are oper- ating properly.
WA R N I N G Never run the engine in a closed or poorly ventilated area any longer than is needed to move your vehicle out of the area. Car- bon monoxide gas, which is odorless and extremely poisonous, could build up andcause serious injury or death.CAUTION Do not push-start the vehicle.Do not run the engine at high rpms or drive at high speeds until the engine has had a chance to warm up. Release the ignition switch as soon as the engine starts. Otherwise, the starter motorwill be damaged.

NOTE
 For models equipped with a manual trans- axle, the starter will not operate unless theclutch pedal is fully depressed (Clutch inter- lock). This is a safety feature.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is inthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion. On vehicles equipped with Twin Clutch SST,the starter will not operate unless the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position or the gearshift lever is in the “N” (NEUTRAL)position with the brake pedal depressed. For safety reasons, start the engine in the “P” (PARK) position so that the wheels arelocked.

5. Insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key. 6. Press and hold the brake pedal down with your right foot. 7. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the waydown (manual transaxle).
8. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. Turn the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key to the “ON” position andmake certain that all warning lights and warning displays are functioning properly before starting the engine.
10. Turn the emergency key with the
F.A.S.T.-key to the “START” position without pressing the accelerator pedal.Release the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key when the engine starts.
11. Remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emer-
gency key.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, the starter will not operate unless the clutchpedal is fully depressed (Clutch interlock). This is a safety feature.
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is in the “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion.On vehicles equipped with Twin Clutch SST, the starter will not operate unless the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position orthe gearshift lever is in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position with the brake pedal depressed. For safety reasons, start the engine in the “P”(PARK) position so that the wheels are locked.
NOTE
 Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warms up. WA R N I N G Make sure to remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emergency key after the engine is started.If not removed, the F.A.S.T.-key could fall to the floor, which may interfere with pedal operation.Furthermore, the F.A.S.T.-key could pre- vent the driver’s knee airbag from inflat- ing normally or could be propelled tocause serious injury if the airbag inflates.NOTE
 If the emergency key is attached to a key ring, it may become impossible to insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key, and it may prevent the engine from being started.When using the emergency key to start the engine, first remove the key from the key ring.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.  One of the doors and the rear hatch is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation. The engine hood is opened.
When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes.After 3 minutes the headlights automati- cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3minutes.
Type 1
Type 2 The alarm can be deactivated in the following ways.  By using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation to lock or unlock the door or rear hatch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion.

The system will be disarmed if the followingoperation is performed.  The ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position. All doors and the rear hatch are unlocked by the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.

6. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. On vehicles equipped with continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST, make sure the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin ClutchSST) is in the “P” (PARK) position. 7. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion and make certain that all warning lights are functioning properly before starting the engine.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the “START” position without pressing the accelerator pedal. Release the key when the engine starts.
After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rearwindow defogger, are turned off. 2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with continuously variabletransmission (CVT) or the clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, press the accelerator pedal halfwayand hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accelerator pedal, immedi- ately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with CVT or the clutchpedal on the vehicles equipped with man- ual transaxle, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, thencrank the engine for 5 to 6 seconds. Return the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and release the accelerator pedal.Wait a few seconds, and then crank theengine again for 5 to 6 seconds while depressing the brake pedal or the clutch pedal, but do not push the acceleratorpedal. Release the ignition key if the engine starts. If the engine fails to start, repeat these procedures. If the engine stillwill not start, contact your local Mitsubi- shi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assistance.
When the ambient temperature is -4 °F (-20 °C) or lower on vehicles equipped with CVT, -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower on vehicles equippedwith Twin Clutch SST, it may not be possible
